Whig Watch: Conservatives Claim Sotomayor’s Diet Could Influence the Court

Are you kidding me? Conservatives are actually citing the judge’s favorite foods as a disqualifier for the supreme court?

ALSO: They think her name is too ethnic as well.

The southern regional minority party is having a very hard time adjusting to the real America.

  1. SaveFarris says:

Show me where any Conservative “actually cites” that. Good Luck!

  2. ALSO: They think she is too Mexican as well.

  3. The Dark Avenger says:

Curt Levey, the executive director of the Committee for Justice, a conservative-leaning advocacy group, said he wasn’t certain whether Sotomayor had claimed her palate would color her view of legal facts but he said that President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee clearly touts her subjective approach to the law.

“It’s pretty disturbing,” said Levey. “It’s one thing to say that occasionally a judge will despite his or her best efforts to be impartial … allow occasional biases to cloud impartiality.

    “she has cooties”-Curt Levey

  6. SaveFarris says:

Read carefully: Levey never says that. What Levy *ACTUALLY* says is that he’s not certain Sotomayer made the claim itself. He never actually speaks one way or another about the allegation.

  7. ed says:

The modern Republican party never ceases to amaze. Somehow. Stay klassee!

  8. Jay says:

WOW! This is the end result of poor public education. Reading comprehension goes right out the window. That’s not even CLOSE to what he said.

    Holy shiite.

  9. SpiderJ says:

Jay’s right. He didn’t say her name was “too ethnic.” He just said her name should not be pronounced in an “unnatural” way.

“Unnatural” meaning the way “normal American” people would pronounce it.

“Normal American” obviously being “people who don’t have names like “Sotomayor.”

The result of poor public education, Jay, is a bunch of self-important jackasses who think that they should have the right to bend even other people’s names to their own inadequacies.

  10. I despise conservatives even more every day.

  11. Burn says:

Hey wingnuts, just shut up already. She’ll be confirmed by the Senate and there’s not a goddamn thing you can do about it. And there will be more supreme court appointments in the near future, so get used to watching from the sidelines, losers.

    Elections have consequences, remember?

  12. fafaroo says:

That’s not even CLOSE to what he said.

So, Jay, what was it exactly that he did say?

  13. Jay Tea says:

It’s amazing what the Obamoids will do to avoid discussing Judge Sotomayor’s actions in the New Haven firefighters case… even to the point of this.

    J.

  14. Burn says:

Ok, Jayteabag, thrill us with your vast insight into Ricci v. DeStefano and why she is an ‘activist’ judge.

  15. Duros62 says:

Read carefully: Levey never says that. What Levy *ACTUALLY* says is that he’s not certain Sotomayer made the claim itself. He never actually speaks one way or another about the allegation.

Oh, that’s right. A conservative is talking, so it’s ALL about context.

  16. It’s amazing what the Obamoids will do to avoid discussing Judge Sotomayor’s actions in the New Haven firefighters case…

I don’t think the people wasting oxygen with tantrums about Sotomayer’s diet are Obama supporters.

  17. She affirmed an earlier decision, clear judicial activism. Then again, you guys think cases like Brown are activism but wanted the Supreme Court involved in Terry Schiavo’s case when there was no role for the court.

  18. SaveFarris says:

Duros, it’s not a question of context. It’s a case of TPM making an accusation (and Oliver repeating it) without actually offering any proof.

  19. Jaim says:

Republicans are racist bigots as a default, but put the proverbial red-meat of a hispanic woman nominated for a position of power in front of them and they just lose their shit.

Obama is playing you assholes for the wannabe Klan members that you are, yet again.

Have fun never getting a woman or a hispanic to vote “R” ever again.

  20. Jeff says:

I have a last name that I must constantly give a 5 minute ethnography and pronouncation guide to (and I’m whiter than white if any Republicans are wondering). If anyone told me my name was “unnatural” and I should adapt to how real Americans say it, I would probably punch them.

  21. Tyro says:

I’m not certain whether SaveFarris’s affection for Republican talking points makes him a goatfucking douchebag.

I’m not passing judgment on that allegation one way or the other.

  22. Mike says:

Jay Tea, Democrats are talking about the New Haven case a lot. Of course, I wouldn’t expect you to understand anything like objective reality.

  23. Thad says:

Where the glorious lack of historical awareness comes in is that, a century ago, “Scalia” and “Alito” would have been considered too ethnic a pair of names as well.

  24. Duros62 says:

Duros, it’s not a question of context.

Yes it is. It always is.

  25. lonya says:

So how come none of the Sotomayor is a racist bunch is talking up her dissent in Pappas v. Giuliani? Well the answer is self evident.

In it she spoke up on the side of white cop who was fired by the NYPD for distributing racist/anti-semitic literature in his off hours. Sotmayor, in dissent, said the white cop’s first amendment rights should not be taken away simply because his speech may be distasteful to the majority.

Yeah, but she’s an ethno-centric racist according to the chattering ditto heads of the world. But let’s just not mention this opinion – it may spoil the fun.
