Your statement along with fafaroo’s regarding Hitler and socialism are rather myopic. Socialism, fascism, and communism are nestled together far left of center...<i>And in support of this statement I will not present a single reference or citation.</i>

LOL,
Oliver, you make brash assumptions based on wishes not facts. Your sense of history seems to be almost entirely based on racial resentment. Your more recent post on civil rights and journalism is a perfect example. While perhaps this is understandable, it warps your understanding of this nation, how it came to be and what makes it different.

It is indeed ironic that you embrace the idea of a large federal government that eventually granted your forbearers freedom but reject the concept of liberty.

Perhaps to harbor resentment is only a natural human emotion. But what you fail to grasp is that while personally to you, slavery may seem to be the hub which American history revolves it is only a small part of the nation's history.

The Civil War on a national level was about much more than slavery although that is the overwhelming factor you learn about in politically correct history books. The compact between the several States was a political comprimise, politics being the art of what is possible.

Many regional differences both cultural and economic were in tension in forming the United States out of the 13 separate former colonies. Amendment 10 is quite indicitive of the relationship between the States and the Federal government.

Back closer to the subject at hand. Your statement along with fafaroo's regarding Hitler and socialism are rather myopic. Socialism, fascism, and communism are nestled together far left of center. That there is often a blood fued between the factions is indicitive of thier similarities rather than thier differences. They are fighting each other for turf, much more who is going to run the show rather than the show itself.

Oh and while were pulling random quotes from Hitler:

<blockquote>
For fourteen or fifteen years I have continually proclaimed to the German nation that I regard it as my task before posterity to destroy Marxism, and that is no empty phrase but a solemn oath which I shall follow as long as I live. I have made this confession of faith, the confession of faith of a single man, that of a mighty organization. I know now that even if fate were to remove me, the fight would be fought to the end; this movement is the guarantee for that. This for us is not a fight which can be finished by compromise. We see in Marxism the enemy of our people which we will root out and destroy without mercy.... We must then fight to the very end those tendencies which have eaten into the soul of the German nation in the last seventeen years, which have done us such incalculable damage and which, if they had not been vanquished, would have destroyed Germany. Bismarck told us that liberalism was the pace-maker of Social Democracy. I need not say here that Social Democracy is the pace-maker of Communism. And Communism is the forerunner of death, of national destruction, and extinction. We have joined battle with it and will fight it to the death.- -- Hitler,Berlin, May 10, 1933 (4)

Amused, there's a really big reason why Hitler was not a Socialist. To be a socialist, you have to believe that human history is the history of class struggle. No matter what else you may believe, you are not a socialist/marxist/communist if you do not believe that class is at the root of understanding human society and history.

Hitler rejected class and replaced it with race. Hitler adopted a lot of the rhetoric of the Social Democrats as a matter of political expediency: The Social Democrats were on the rise after WWI and Hitler needed to broaden his base. But Hitler hated the Social Democrats, in fact, blaming them for Germany's loss in WWI. The class-based rhetoric of the quote you cite is part and parcel of Hitler assuming the rhetoric of the socialists without actually adopting any of their policies.

Remember Amused, Hitler didn't blame Germany's economic woes on capitalists, in general. He blamed Germany's economic woes on "Jewish Capitalism." The Nazis respected private property-unless it was owned by Jews.

Read Richard J. Evans' The Coming of the Third Reich. You can start from the bottom of page 172:

Jaim,
I wish you were employable here in the states. I'd love to take a class from you at a community college just to call bullshit on your liberal dribble.

Socialism and fascim are not on opposite ends of a spectrum but are nestled together on a spectrum with capitalism on the very farthest away end.

Fascism was a word coined by Mussolini for his particular flavor of socialism. Mussolini was a devout socialist who fell out of favor in the days of WW1 when he suddenly decided Italy should side up with England and France. Talk about irony.

He then took his ideas about socialism and went back to the core of Marxism. He felt that captalism was a stage that had to be gone through to get to socialism. Here he differed from Lenin. Lenin thought you could go from basically fuedalism to socialism and skip the messy capitalism. Lenin depended on class warfare for his theories while Mussollini rejected that idea.

Have you even taken the trouble to view the clip that Oliver put up?

Now as for Duros here is an interesting quote;

"We are socialists, we are enemies of today's capitalistic economic system for the exploitation of the economically weak, with its unfair salaries, with its unseemly evaluation of a human being according to wealth and property instead of responsibility and performance, and we are all determined to destroy this system under all conditions."

Adolph Hitler May Day 1927

The majority of commentors here appear to be in favor of socialism, reject the idea of robust liberty, and generally think that the erosion of the idea of a nation ruled by law instead of men is a good think. A pity that.

Why is it when ever a con says something stupid, offensives or just down right wrong cons by default start by defending it by saying it was a joke?

"LOL the Nazi were socialists"

Hitler rose to power, explicitly, as an anti-Bolshevik, an anti-communist, and an anti-socialist, the name of the party notwithstanding. That type of anti-collectivist rhetoric was on his lips until the moments he blew his brains out.

Google Krupps. Google Mercedes. Google any German company that was around during WWII. Yes they were expected to make military equipment, but that would be like saying it was "fascist" to expect GM to make tanks. These companies all made profits during the war. They didn't make armaments because the government took them over, they made armaments to make money.

To call someone a "fascist-socialist" is a complete oxymoron. You get to pick and choose one for your little tantrums against Obama, and you'd be wrong on either account.

The Wall Street bail-outs began under Bush. So what's that make him? The original American "fascist-socialist?" Love to hear your answer on that one, sparky. As for the auto industry bail-out, I opposed it myself. But you know who was pushing hardest for that? Auto industry heads and lobbyists. Is is "socialist" of Obama to try and work with American heads of industry? I guess when the POTUS is a Dem (or in your case, black) that makes him a socialist.

Like I said AO, if you'd been in one my high school history classes, I'd have had to flunk you. If you can't be expected to understand basic tenets of political philosophy and history, expect to be treated like the child (intellectually at least) that you are.

Duros,
you are 180 degrees out regarding government control and fascism. LOL the Nazi were socialists, you got a problem with that? The only thing further to the left were the Russians.

Grumpyman,
I said they were having a little humor at your expense. Democrats, perhaps ignorant of history, are embracing the politics and policies of groups that upon closer examination one might think it better to stay away from.

I said they were having a little humor at your expense. Democrats, perhaps ignorant of history, are embracing the politics and policies of groups that upon closer examination one might think it better to stay away from.

Amused Observer,
Why is it when ever a con says something stupid, offensives or just down right wrong cons by default start by defending it by saying it was a joke?

Fascism is corporate control of government. That isn't what we want. Never has been.

Got too much of that already.

<i>Now those boys in the video were mostly having a little fun at your expense but really what can you find fault with about what they are saying.</i>

He called me a fucking Nazi. Not okay with me. Not "having a little fun at my expense."

FUCK you.

Socialism, fascism, and capitalism all relate to who controls the means of production, distribution, and labor. Socialism advocates public ownership aand control. Fascim allows industry to be private but commands and controls production etc. Capitalism, the movement Obama is trying to undermine is the private control of production and labor.

Jaim,
Your ignorance is exceeded only by your innocence. Thanks for offering the list of books but I don't find Howard Zinn to really be all that useful.

Now those boys in the video were mostly having a little fun at your expense but really what can you find fault with about what they are saying. Obama is putting extreme pressure on private companies to sign over portions of ownership and control to the government. He is attempting to leave healthcare private but dictate how and what they do. If it quacks like a duck...

Oliver: <i>"You know what helped Bush to do all he did? The ineffectual leadership of Terry McAuliffe."</i>

Which more succinctly and better expresses <a href="http://www.oliverwillis.com/2009/05/21/whig-watch-gop-debates-serious-issue-of-socialism/#comment-153508" rel="nofollow">my poorly made and circuitous point</a>.

I was attempting snark and failed.

I blame Republicans for a long list of things.

But you are exactly right, Dems like Terry McAuliffe helped those Republicans more often than not.

Terry McAuliffe is the worst representatives of the Democratic Party I can think of. Every time I've ever seen McAuliffe on TV representing the Democratic Party I got the creeps.

If I were forced to defend either Zell Miller or Terry McAuliffe I could at least say <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuBnlNjZq24" rel="nofollow">Zell wasn't afraid of a duel</a>.

<i>The ineffectual leadership of Terry McAuliffe.</i>

McAuliffe has always had one big thing going for him which kept him in the DNC and may well win him the Dem nomination in VA: money. The guy wasn't a good DNC head, and he won't make a good candidate for governor, much less a good governor, but the sheer number of dollars he managed to bring in obscured all of those shortcomings.

As it is, of course, he's fighting the last war: the dems can always manage to raise plenty of funds. It's a shame he never developed any other decent talents.

<i>I’d be happy to suggest some good books on the subject for beginners like yourself.</i>

I suggest you start with the "Dick and Jane" series. Anything more complicated than "See Dick. See Jane." is likely to make his/her/its head explode.
