Rick Perry Aide “Whorehouse” Comment
Tweet
Apparently Kay Bailey Hutchinson is taking the statement as some sort of gender-based attack, although to my ears it sounds more like yet another argument about GOP keeping itself pure (ie: Only well off white guys need apply).
A comment by a strategist for Gov. Rick Perry that the Republican Party shouldn’t open itself “like a whorehouse” to new voters has infuriated prominent GOP women in Texas and given Perry’s primary rival, U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, fuel for the re-election fight.
Perry is trying to distance himself from the remark, published in the Dallas Morning News, by consultant David Carney, but as Texas Republicans split into the governor’s social conservative camp and Hutchison’s more moderate one before the March 2010 primary, the damage was done.
Carney said he agreed the Republican Party needed to attract new voters. But, he added, “that doesn’t mean you take your principles and throw them out the door and become a whorehouse and let anybody in who wants to come in, regardless.”
Taken either way, not exactly “big tent” in action.

I think he definitely meant the latter, but the former probably played a role in his choice of words.
Even if it wasn’t a gender-based attack, the “become a whorehouse” portion of Carney’s (otherwise innocuous) statement is still over-the-top, especially coming from the strategist of a prominent politician.
“secessionism is patriotism. Kay is working for George Soros”-David Carney
Oliver, I can’t help myself. I need to re-punctuate one sentence of yours:
Only well, off-white guys need apply.
If you’re too unhealthy or pale, GTFO!!!!
J. (who qualifies as both…)
I think he’s absolutely right. The GOP shouldn’t be like a whorehouse.
It should be like a truck stop restroom.
Only well, off-white guys need apply.
If you’re too unhealthy or pale, GTFO!!!!
Eggshell okay?
Wow, a major political party with a bouncer at the door. That should translate into an overwhelming surge of electoral success.
And what consititutes ‘moderate Republican’ in Texas? Condemned prisoners are allowed a cigarette before being thrown to the carnivorous geese?
Oh, for heaven’s sake, Robert. Don’t be so frigging stupid.
Geese aren’t carnivorous. They’re terrorists who bring down planes.
BEARS are carnivorous.
J.
In the wake of the Democrats’ loss in the 2004 elections, Howard Dean became head of the DNC implemented a “50 state strategy” intended both to compete against all republicans everywhere as well as to attract new voters to the Democratic party side.
By contrast, the Republican party in 2009 seems to be upset at the idea of encouraging more people to vote for them.
Looks like it’s going to be a loooong time in the wilderness.
If you’re too unhealthy or pale, GTFO!!!!
Would explain their stance on health-care.
Hay-oh!
BEARS are carnivorous.
Bears aren’t carnivorous, that implies that they’re restricted to meat. They’re demivorous, they eat GODS.
