Superb. Every week, I play along with the closing contest, and once or twice I think I’ve come close to the pros.
It would be better if P. J. O’Rourke was on more often, though.

Wait, Jay, you’re a Wait, Wait and a Star Trek fan? Are you sure you’re not a latent liberal?
Jeff, I’m a militant moderate. (Around here, that’s about half an inch left of Genghis Khan.) Toss in a love for Car Talk and Weekend Edition Sunday (from the days when the Car Talk guys had their own segment), as well as my support for gay rights in general (and marriage in particular) and I threaten to make a lot of people’s heads explode.
Also, one of my favorite writers is Peter David, who’s an out-and-out moonbat politically.
Man, what would be the “ultimate” Wait Wait panel? P. J., Tom Bodett, Paula Poundstone, Mo Rocca, Charlie Pierce, Kyrie O’Connor… its’ tough to narrow it down to just 3.
I’m a huge P. J. fan, so I gotta go with him as #1.

I haven’t listened to wait wait in a while but I’d have to include Roy Blount and Poundstone.
I HATE CAR TALK. Not because I’m not a car guy (though I watch Top Gear) but because those morons think theyre so funny that they laugh at their own jokes before they finish. Oh I hate that show.
To get a little off topic–the rule of thumb I’ve heard is liberals like Star Trek and conservatives like Star Wars. Star Trek is a bright, shining vision of the future with a one world government where need has been eliminated and we follow our higher humanist goals, boldly going where no one (not no man b/c we’re inclusive) has gone before. Star Wars is a dark vision where the corrupt government has enslaved the people and brave rebels fight back. That and Star Wars is just fake.

I’m happy to hear that I’m not the only one who feels that way.
I find this “rule of thumb” to be silliness. I like them both for their ability to spin good yarn (even thought the scripts are mostly crap, taken from a basic standpoint of epic storytelling Star Wars is excellent).
Also, Daffyd ab Hugh has written Star Trek novels. No idea where Orson Scott Card lands.
