The conservative movement’s anti-science posturing comes home to roost when Rep. Mike Pence can’t give Chris Matthews a straight answer on what he believes about evolution on Hardball. Sometimes Tweety gets it right. Rarely. But this is one of those cases.
He had to go back a century to find a pro-environment Republican.
Also, I believe that all fossils are leftovers from alien picnics, and that this should be taught in schools alongside evolution.
I think the real problem is being a fundamentalist Christian. I know plenty of Christians who believe evolution is sound science. I fail to see how evolution is the answer to everything we question. The real problem is the fundamentalist view of Republicans. They truly are Anti-Science.
Parthenon,
Nice call on the hundred year conservative-environmentalist. Thier references need a century update.
Sad. That’s fucking sad. That’s the reason the GOP is stuck at 25% party identification. And that’s not going to change for a while, unless they change their politics on science.
Me: “Sad. That’s fucking sad. That’s the reason the GOP is stuck at 25% party identification. And that’s not going to change for a while, unless they change their politics on science.”
You know what, I think I’m wrong here. Party identification will continue to go down.
Young people trust science over superstitions. And the older GOP base is dying off, both literally and figuratively.
If Republicans had their way:
“Now children, open up your science books to the Genesis chapter.”
Your modern Republican party. That’s it, right there.
It is kind of funny how they keep digging and digging and digging until they’ll just disappear like the Jesus Horses (i.e., dinosaurs) that they are.
Matthews closes with “Thank you for showing your honesty today?”
…Huh?
How are American children supposed to get science and tech jobs with these young earthers in office
If Chris Matthews wanted to be cruel, he should have asked Pence what he would do if he contracted H1N1 flu.
Richard Nixon founded the EPA, btw. Always thought that was an interesting factoid.
What a f’ing coward. Still never answered the question and tried to deflect every straight shot from CM.
We need to bury these people in their own stupidity and cowardice.
It’s amazing how Matthews walks him right up to the opportunity to say what he actually thinks and Mike Pence never does. He bobs and weaves and avoids being clear about his own differences within the perceived differences within Republican party.
My experience with people in the Republican Party is that one-to-one their thoughts and beliefs are much more nuanced than the Media Screamers. The Media Screamers manage to take the mindshare on “What A Republican Is” to the detriment of those who are more thoughtful. Then again, the thoughtful parts of the party are dying, being driven out, or forced to play the Media Screamer game.
I’ve no idea where the GOP is headed, but it’s quite something to watch them head there.
Great talking point. Start every Q&A with a Republican with the simple question, “Evolution, yes or no?”
Watch them squirm.
I’m a little disappointed Chris Matthews didn’t call Pence on the Roosevelt reference, considering Teddy left the Republican Party. Ah well, can’t have it all.
