Maersk Alabama Crewman vs. Limbaugh

I bet against the right wing racist with the radio show.

  1. jr says:

The Crewmen will be tied to ACORN or George Soros on Fox and Clear Channel this week

  2. Jaim says:

Nah, it’s already known that they’re union members. For Republicans, this means they’re human scum.

(And by Republicans, I mean a laughably small number of Americans that’s getting smaller by the day.)

  3. Jay Tea says:

No, union LEADERS are scum. Union MEMBERS are quite often decent folks, and most usually victims.

This guy is brave, took part in a very heroic thing, and is wrong on this point.

    J.

  4. Jay Tea says:

Also, Limbaugh was being sarcastic, projecting how certain folks (some of whom can be found around here — yes, I mean you, jr, and possibly Strowbridge) might have spun the killing of the pirates had it happened under Bush.

It’s exaggerated, and a bit of hyperbole, but it’s not completely absurd.

    J.

  5. Jay Tea says:

I actually tracked down what Limbaugh said. It was SATIRE. He was lampooning how a certain type of person (some of which can be found around here — jr, Strowbridge) might have spun the pirate shootings had they happened under Bush.

Not terribly funny, but absolutely not a sincere expression of sentiment.

    J.

  6. Eric Sipple says:

This guy is brave, took part in a very heroic thing, and is wrong on this point.

Wrong on what point? That Limbaugh is once again wallowing around in the racist end of the swimming pool? Is Limbaugh’s racism really still under debate?

It’s exaggerated, and a bit of hyperbole, but it’s not completely absurd.

Jay, are you required to defend every idiotic thing people say against Obama?

I’m not saying that this ranks particularly high on the Insulting Talk Radio Quotes scale, but this statement is indefensible. What’s the joke? That Obama is black and so were the teenagers? That Obama is secretly Muslim? That before he shot them we were criticizing him for being a vagina, but now – ha ha ha! – we’re criticizing him for getting praised for it by making up reasons that a Republican President wouldn’t have? What?

I’m sorry, but there’s no free pass given for framing your nonsense like a joke. At the least, it would help if it was funny.

  7. Jay Tea says:

First off, my apologies for the double comment. I thought the first one was eaten.

Eric, Obama is only tangential to what Limbaugh was saying. The true target of his comments were the people who see racism in everything, who are convinced that everything Bush did was evil, and could always find a way to convert bad people into victims so their misdeeds could be excused.

    It wasn’t about Obama.

    J.

  8. Eric Sipple says:

The true target of his comments were the people who see racism in everything, who are convinced that everything Bush did was evil, and could always find a way to convert bad people into victims so their misdeeds could be excused.

There’s a pot calling the kettle black joke in here somewhere.

  9. Repack Rider says:

JT, your argument is not with Odub, but with the crewman, who says that Limbaugh is a jerk and gives his reasons for saying so. If the crewman is wrong, then say he is, but he looks a lot more heroic right now than Limbaugh ever has, and I don’t think Limbaugh will find it in his best interest to denigrate a popular hero.

I agree with you in one sense. Limbaugh should definitely keep talking about this. The First Amendment gives him the right to marginalize himself and reduce his party to old white conspiracy theorists.

  10. sgwhiteinfla says:

Jay Tea is certainly going to defend Limbaugh to the death isn’t he. Evidently the crewman didn’t appreciate Limbaugh’s “satire”.

  11. Jaim says:

How was the guy “wrong” for being saved by laudable military action authorized by the president?

I can’t keep up with your spinning any longer Jay. Might be time for you to get another Socialized health check-up at my personal expense.

  12. sgwhiteinfla says:

This is off topic but its funny how something like, uhmmm I don’t know, the threat of a pandemic, suddenly turns a Gov who was calling for secession a week or so ago into a flaming big government librul in a heartbeat.

  13. Jay Tea says:

Repack, from my first comment on this thread:

This guy is brave, took part in a very heroic thing, and is wrong on this point.

The thing to remember is that Media Masters specializes in lifting comments out of context — in this case, the sarcastic tone expressed. It’s their forte. It’s their specialty. It’s their trademark.

    J.

  14. Crusty Dem says:

JT, I wouldn’t go after MM here, it really doesn’t read much better in the original wingnut. Satire, sarcasm, whatever you want to call it, it’s still a bunch of stupid crap, it’s not funny, it’s not insightful, it’s just the mindless meanderings of a witless twit.

  15. Jay Tea says:

Crusty, I said that it wasn’t that good. But the point is that the satirical intent is obvious to anyone without an axe to grind.

Which describes the folks making a big stink out of it to a tee.

    J.

  16. C.S.Strowbridge says:

J.G.Thayer: “Also, Limbaugh was being sarcastic, projecting how certain folks (some of whom can be found around here — yes, I mean you, jr, and possibly Strowbridge) might have spun the killing of the pirates had it happened under Bush.”

    Projecting? Freudian slip?

I think you meant to say, ‘predicting’. But projecting is much more accurate.

“…is obvious to anyone without an axe to grind.”

    Speaking of projecting.

  17. C.S.Strowbridge says:

sgwhiteinfla: “Jay Tea is certainly going to defend Limbaugh to the death isn’t he. Evidently the crewman didn’t appreciate Limbaugh’s ’satire’.”

He feels a kinship to a fellow racist asshole.

  18. sgwhiteinfla says:

    Jay Tea

It isn’t Media Matters doing anything, its the hero Shane who helped retake his ship from the pirates. Now if you are going to defend Limbaugh have the balls to attack the guy who attacked him. Don’t hide behind Media Matters, George Soros, or ACORN. What are saying Shane Murphy is a dumbass who is wrong because he doesn’t understand satire but instead of having the courage to actually say that you pick a strawman to blame everything on. Murphy doesn’t work for Media Matters and he said exactly how HE feels about it. Now come on with it and attack the man the way you evidently want to and stop dancing around. OR you can pull back and realize that he might have a lot more of an authority to speak against Limbaugh than you have a right to speak against him. Somehow I don’t think you will be doing the latter though.

  19. daniel rotter says:

“…Media Matters specializes in lifting things out of context-in this case, the sarcastic tone expressed.”

MM has audio of Limbaugh’s remarks, so I don’t know how you can criticize that organization for not showing Limbaugh’s “sarcastic tone.”

  20. Sean D. Martin says:

Jay Tea: The true target of his comments were the people who see racism in everything, who are convinced that everything Bush did was evil, and could always find a way to convert bad people into victims so their misdeeds could be excused.

AS opposed to those who see everything Obama does as evil (OMG! He gave the queen a gift she asked for. OMG! He bowed to an Arab proving that he’s going to start indoctrination camps to covert our kids to Islam!).

Your partisan blindness is staggering sometimes.

  21. Jay Tea says:

No, Strowbridge, “projecting.” It’s an appropriate term in this context. “Predicting” would have been if he had said “this is what will happen.” “Projecting” means “under the circumstances I have described, this is what these people would likely have said.”

And you yet again are trying to make this about race. Your obsession there really is getting severe. Have you considered medications?

    J.

  22. Robert says:

Good thing the crewman didn’t have a pilonidal cyst, or he would never have gotten to go overseas.

  23. C.S.Strowbridge says:

J.G.Thayer: “No, Strowbridge, ‘projecting.’ It’s an appropriate term in this context. ‘Predicting’ would have been if he had said ‘this is what will happen.’ ‘Projecting’ means ‘under the circumstances I have described, this is what these people would likely have said.’”

Nope. Projecting means predicting the future. You were describing an alternate history.

“And you yet again are trying to make this about race. Your obsession there really is getting severe. Have you considered medications?”

    Two points.

1.) Stop fucking whining, you little shit. Grow up and act like an adult.

2.) YOU ARE THE ONE WHO BROUGHT UP RACE! Well, technically it was your fellow racist asshole, Rush Limbaugh, was the one who brought it up. But you were agreeing with his racist banter before I got here. So I wasn’t the one bringing up race, was I? Nope. It’s just your guilty conscience again. I know it’s hard for you to admit that your racist, but I don’t fucking care. I don’t have empathy for racist assholes like you.

  24. Jaim says:

As an indolent recipient of socialized health-care, Jay just resents people who actually work for a living, be they union or no.

    He’s the ultimate welfare queen.

  25. Jay Tea says:

Jaim, I’ll take that as a congratulations on my 11th anniversary with my current employer. You’re a few months late, but I’ll overlook it.

Strowbridge, the only thing my conscience pangs me over is how much satisfaction I get when I see you blow your gasket — it’s so easy, so predictable, and so entertaining. It’d be a bit more entertaining, though, if you occasionally changed things up a bit.

If you had the slightest bit of integrity, you’d admit that Limbaugh’s poor joke had a smidgen of truth to it — witness the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, when Kanye West proclaimed on national TV that “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” and Spike Lee saying that Bush blew up the levees on purpose. It’s not that far a stretch from that to what Limbaugh projected.

But back to the Maersk Alabama’s first mate: he’s a hero. He did a heroic thing. But that doesn’t grant him infallibility — no more than Cindy Sheehan had “absolute moral authority” on the Iraq War or the wartime experiences of Bob Dole or John McCain made them automatically worthy of the presidency. He’s wrong — probably because he’s been misinformed, but he’s wrong in this case.

    J.

  26. Jaim says:

Wrong about what, exactly? That Limbaugh and his defenders like yourself are hateful morons?

Going by majority opinion, he’s dead right.

But I’d expect no less from you than to take a genuinely good event (sailors rescued successfully on orders from the Prez) and try to insert your weird racial politics into it.

Well played yet again, Mr. Jay. Glad to know my tax dollars kept you alive so you could keep on spewing your babble for all to read and mock.

  27. Crusty Dem says:

If you had the slightest bit of integrity, you’d admit that Limbaugh’s poor joke had a smidgen of truth to it.

Seriously? WTF dude, there isn’t even a smidgen of sanity in his rantings. When did anyone protest against killing terrorists or pirates because of their race or religion? Your Katrina non sequitir aside, I have no idea where Limbaugh gets this insane BS. This actually makes even less sense than the racial stupidity (I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and not call it racist, although it was pretty damn close) that got him kicked off Monday Night Football. At least that had some point, as truly stupid as it was, but this is just fever-ranting inanity. I guess it fills up his time slot, but if you think it is in any way a cogent analysis of ills of liberal thinking, I fear for you. Do you actually want to defend it? Do you understand what he was trying to say?

  28. sgwhiteinfla says:

    Jay Tea says

He’s wrong — probably because he’s been misinformed, but he’s wrong in this case.

Oh HELL NAWL you ain’t getting off that easy. This is what you previously said.

But the point is that the satirical intent is obvious to anyone without an axe to grind.
Which describes the folks making a big stink out of it to a tee.

Now you are either saying Murphy is a dumbass who couldn’t recognize satire or you are saying he has an axe to grind. Which is it? Be a man and own your shit. It amazes me how whenever Limbaugh says something racist his dutiful dittoheads explain it away as satire. Well it seems that Mr Murphy, the guy you admit is a hero, doesn’t appreciate that particular form of “satire” the same as most rational non bigoted folks. Stop showing your skirt and attack the man or drop it, nobody from Media Matters or any other liberal blog got him to make that statement. He did it of his own free will unprompted so if you have a problem with anybody you have it with him. Whats the matter? Afraid to talk shit about a hero?

    I just bet you are.

  29. Jaim says:

Ah, but Jay isn’t a fan of Limbaugh. No sir. Nor is he a Republican. Ya see, he’s just a completely impartial recipient of government provided health-care who happens to think government should never provide anything except to him.

He’s also a complete fucking joke of an intellect, but everybody already knew that.

  30. Quaker in a Basement says:

KONDRACKE: I think Obama did the right thing. I was in church with him on — same church as — on — on Sunday, and he looked like very preoccupied and now it’s — it’s — it’s apparent why because he was thinking what was going on in the — in the — off Somalia.

RUSH: I was in church with him on Sunday, he looked very preoccupied. He may have looked preoccupied in church on Sunday. Now we know why. He was worried about the order he had given to wipe out three teenagers on the high seas, black Muslim teenagers. I think the way he looked in church, Mort, probably confused that nobody was screaming about how evil America is. That’s what he’s used to hearing in church, and he obviously didn’t hear that.

Sorry, Mr. Tea. That’s not satire. This is the first mention of black or Muslim in Mr. Limbaugh’s presentation and it’s not a paraphrase or caricature of anything that came before.

  31. Southern Quaker says:

the fact that Rush felt it necessary to use the phrase “black Muslim teenagers” says it all.

  32. Zython says:

Jay, are you required to defend every idiotic thing people say against Obama?

He has to, otherwise, he’d lose his wingnut welfare.

  33. C.S.Strowbridge says:

J.G.Thayer: “Strowbridge, the only thing my conscience pangs me over is how much satisfaction I get when I see you blow your gasket — it’s so easy, so predictable, and so entertaining.”

    Two points…

1.) Blow a gasket? You can see my emotions over the internet? When I call you a racist piece of shit, I do so in a very calm matter. I do so because you are a racist piece of shit.

1.) I’m not surprised you don’t have a guilty conscience for being such a racist asshole. You’ve managed to justify it so often that you no longer even realize you are racist. You’ve wrapped yourself in Lee Atwater’s mantra so tightly that you no longer realize you are lying to yourself. Welfare reform is about ’self-reliance’, but when you think of someone on welfare, it’s a black person, right?

“If you had the slightest bit of integrity, you’d admit that Limbaugh’s poor joke had a smidgen of truth to it — witness…”

So the GOP is filled with racist assholes, like yourself, and now they complain whenever people call them on that fact. ‘Watermelons on the White House lawn has nothing to do with the Southern Strategy!’

You are a fucking whiny baby.

Fortunately, at this pace, 2010 will be just as bad for the Republicans as 2006 and 2008 were.

  34. Duros62 says:

But back to the Maersk Alabama’s first mate: he’s a hero. He did a heroic thing.

Just out of curiosity, how is locking yourself in the engine room heroic?

  35. Dennis says:

You’ve wrapped yourself in Lee Atwater’s mantra so tightly that you no longer realize you are lying to yourself. Welfare reform is about ’self-reliance’, but when you think of someone on welfare, it’s a black person, right? Smoochie Strowbridge

Good Lord, Strowbridge, you are a fucking psychotic. Do something about your white guilt beside calling people racists like you were a bumbling old man with Tourettes who’s got nothing else to do with his life.

Go see a psychiatrist or something. Seriously.

  36. Jay Tea says:

Duros, I believe he’s the one who stuck the screwdriver through the captured pirate’s hand. He confronted an armed pirate, attacked him, and captured him. Thw whole damned crew worked together to defeat the pirates — they didn’t just lock themselves in the engine room. That’s heroic in my book.

    J.

  37. Grendel72 says:

I love how the fucking worthless piece of human excrement Jay Tea cannot even point to anything that actually happened outside of his fevered imagination as excusing the brilliant satire of the leader of the Republican party. Hey, I can make up imaginary scenarios as well, that should excuse anything any Democrat ever does, right?

  38. Jaim says:

Jay isn’t exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer.

  39. Duros62 says:

Thw whole damned crew worked together to defeat the pirates — they didn’t just lock themselves in the engine room. That’s heroic in my book.

    Well, okay then.

    Limbaugh is still an asshole.

  40. Jay Tea says:

    Well, okay then.

    Limbaugh is still an asshole.

Agreed. However, that doesn’t automatically make whatever Media Masters says about him true. In fact, it usually means that you gotta dig into the context of the remark to get the truth — a skill that is apparently a disqualifier to work there.

    J.

  41. C.S.Strowbridge says:

C.S.Strowbridge: “You’ve wrapped yourself in Lee Atwater’s mantra so tightly that you no longer realize you are lying to yourself. Welfare reform is about ’self-reliance’, but when you think of someone on welfare, it’s a black person, right?”

Dennis the Bigot: “Good Lord, Strowbridge, you are a fucking psychotic. Do something about your white guilt beside calling people racists like you were a bumbling old man with Tourettes who’s got nothing else to do with his life.

Go see a psychiatrist or something. Seriously.”

    Translation: “Waaaahhh!”

Calling the Southern Strategy racist is White Guilt.

Good lord, you are so fucking racist that you actually think you have to be suffering from White Guilt to realize there’s real racism out there.

That’s a sign of mental illness, Dennis. You are one sick fucker.

Thank god your and your kind and in the minority, and are apparently doing everything they can to make sure they stay there.

  42. Duros62 says:

In fact, it usually means that you gotta dig into the context of the remark to get the truth…

What is it about this elusive “context” that would magically make Limbaugh bullshit automatically acceptable? Because it never is, even in context.
Face it, the dude’s a joke and he is ruining your party. And you are letting him get away with it.
