JT and Farris, will you feel better if a liberal admits the president holds an intolerant (and frankly, eroding) position?

I’m happy to oblige: In this respect, and perhaps only in this respect, the president holds an intolerant view on a moral and social issue. If I must repeat several other commenters here, I think he’s completely wrong, just as wrong as the beauty queen.

There, do we all feel better? Might we now move on?

It’s been pointed out by many people, but it’s worth repeating: Miss California’s position (one solicited by someone who really has no business judging a beauty pageant — or even taking up oxygen, for that matter — and not one she sought to espouse) matches President Obama’s: personally opposed to gay marriage, but supportive of the states having the right to decide it for themselves.

I was annoyed with attention being given to this Miss USA crap by liberals until this. It’s stupid and intolerant to freak out over what a Miss USA contestant said in a pageant.

She’s not setting public policy, and she was asked the question by a judge. She didn’t grab the microphone and use the opportunity to be an anti-gay crusader. She answered a question that I can only assume was asked to put her in this very position.

But what the hell is a state legislative body doing with this crap? It’s stupid and unfair for liberal commentators to get involved with this. It’s offensive for legislators to praise or denounce this. It’s an utterly irrelevant event.

Oh you mean where they still have interracial marriage as illegal in thier constitution and when put to a vote(to change this crap) they tried to make the absurd argument that changing this was a ploy to raise taxes? Yeah….stay classy Alabama.
I agree that Ms. California has a right to make this statement. In that respect, I am glad she is honest. I just don’t agree with her increasingly unpopular opinion.

I am not gay and I do not oppose gay marriage. However, I firmly believe that Carrie Prejean had the right to say what she said and especially the way she said it. I think that Perez Hilton took away, if any, credibility to the gay rights just by his stupid antics.

Yes, she had the right to say what she said, and the judges had the right not to give her the Miss USA crown for saying it. Funny how you forgot to mention the latter “right.”

No surprise. Alabama still has a Jim Crow Constitution, which enshrines in law all sort of bigotry the courts and Congress have gotten rid of, and which we’ve been trying to replace for years. The Republicans won’t let it happen, even though reform would probably involve major redistricting that might let them take control of the state senate. They’re that tied to holding onto “tradition”.
