Alabama House To Praise Miss California For Anti-Gay Marriage Position

Clearly all the major issues are being addressed already by the Alabama legislature.

A resolution has been introduced in the Alabama House that praises Miss USA contestant Carrie Prejean for speaking out against gay marriage during Sunday night’s televised pageant.

Prejean was competing as Miss California and finished second after answering a question from judge Perez Hilton concerning her views on gay marriage. The pageant was won by Miss North Carolina Kristen Dalton.

The resolution was introduced Tuesday by Republican Rep. Jay Love of Montgomery.

    Rep. Jay Love? Seriously?

  2. White Whale says:

Yet ANOTHER reason I am glad I do not live in that state any more.

  3. Michael says:

Good for her to get some positive feedback rather than the normal politically correct crap. Perez should not have asked the question if he was not ready for that answer.

  4. jr says:

    That’s how young earthers roll

  5. sd says:

thats ridiculous… how can you praise someone for discrimination..

  6. DAVIDCESAR3 says:

Always is good to see young people with values and principles willing to defend what they believe. Congratulations for Miss California and her family! Also Alabama House must be proud, you honored who remarked the Word of God’s position against same sex marriage!

I am not gay and I do not oppose gay marriage. However, I firmly believe that Carrie Prejean had the right to say what she said and especially the way she said it. I think that Perez Hilton took away, if any, credibility to the gay rights just by his stupid antics.

  8. Mac says:

No surprise. Alabama still has a Jim Crow Constitution, which enshrines in law all sort of bigotry the courts and Congress have gotten rid of, and which we’ve been trying to replace for years. The Republicans won’t let it happen, even though reform would probably involve major redistricting that might let them take control of the state senate. They’re that tied to holding onto “tradition”.

  9. Sundown says:

    Michael,

So I take it you are a fan of the Westboro Baptist church?

  10. mambochicken23 says:

It seems difficult to laud someone for taking and supporting a discriminatory position. Would you also commend racists for coming out and saying that blacks shouldn’t be equal to whites? Would you commend sexists for coming out and saying that women shouldn’t get paid the same wages as men do?

    My guess is no.

  11. daniel rotter says:

“However, I firmly believe that Carrie Prejean had the right to say what she said…”

Yes, she had the right to say what she said, and the judges had the right not to give her the Miss USA crown for saying it. Funny how you forgot to mention the latter “right.”

“Congratulations for Miss California and her family!”

What does Miss California’s family have to do with anything? This stupid little controversy comes out of the words of Miss California and Miss California alone. How you do know that all of the members of her family even agree with what she said about gay marriage?

So you believe that Miss California was entitled to win?

  13. Nomad says:

Miss California’s got cahones for answering the question honestly. The end result is that she’s more popular (or at least well known) now than she would have been if she had won

If you read the Bible, you would notice God’s position on same sex marriage is the same position on shrimp cocktail and bacon cheeseburgers.

By the way, the Christian church was performing same sex marriage in France in the middle ages.

  15. Jared says:

In a double whammy decision, Alabama has decided that gay marriage is immoral, but sibling marriage is fine. They will be holding a ceremonial cross burning tonight to celebrate.

  16. White Whale says:

“No surprise. Alabama still has a Jim Crow Constitution”
Oh you mean where they still have interracial marriage as illegal in thier constitution and when put to a vote(to change this crap) they tried to make the absurd argument that changing this was a ploy to raise taxes? Yeah….stay classy Alabama.
I agree that Ms. California has a right to make this statement. In that respect, I am glad she is honest. I just don’t agree with her increasingly unpopular opinion.

  17. MatanteDodo says:

Some people think freedom of speech means that people who say stupid, malevolent or offensive things should not be criticised on it. No, no constitutionnal amendment can protect one from being wrong.

  18. SaveFarris says:

When are ya’ll going to start turning your vitriol towards Obama who holds the exact same position as Ms. California and, unlike Ms. California, actually has the power to change the law?

  19. C.S.Strowbridge says:

MatanteDodo: “Some people think freedom of speech means that people who say stupid, malevolent or offensive things should not be criticised on it. No, no constitutionnal amendment can protect one from being wrong.”

We have a winner. Freedom of Speech does not mean freedom from the consequences of your speech.

If you say something stupid and hateful, you should be criticized.

  20. Eric Sipple says:

I was annoyed with attention being given to this Miss USA crap by liberals until this. It’s stupid and intolerant to freak out over what a Miss USA contestant said in a pageant.

She’s not setting public policy, and she was asked the question by a judge. She didn’t grab the microphone and use the opportunity to be an anti-gay crusader. She answered a question that I can only assume was asked to put her in this very position.

But what the hell is a state legislative body doing with this crap? It’s stupid and unfair for liberal commentators to get involved with this. It’s offensive for legislators to praise or denounce this. It’s an utterly irrelevant event.

  21. Jay Tea says:

It’s been pointed out by many people, but it’s worth repeating: Miss California’s position (one solicited by someone who really has no business judging a beauty pageant — or even taking up oxygen, for that matter — and not one she sought to espouse) matches President Obama’s: personally opposed to gay marriage, but supportive of the states having the right to decide it for themselves.

    J.

  22. daniel rotter says:

“…or even taking up oxygen, for that matter…”

    Stay classy, Tea.

  23. Parthenon says:

JT and Farris, will you feel better if a liberal admits the president holds an intolerant (and frankly, eroding) position?

I’m happy to oblige: In this respect, and perhaps only in this respect, the president holds an intolerant view on a moral and social issue. If I must repeat several other commenters here, I think he’s completely wrong, just as wrong as the beauty queen.

There, do we all feel better? Might we now move on?

  24. Amused Observer says:

    Lol Parthenon,
Is it a coincidence that Miss California is attacked by the left for honestly voicing her opinion and Obama is not? Perhaps the difference is honesty.

  25. C.S.Strowbridge says:

J.G.Thayer: “one solicited by someone who really has no business judging a beauty…”

I’m curious. What are the qualifications to judge a beauty pageant?
