Bow Down To Leader Limbaugh

The pattern repeats itself: Congressional Republican steps out of line on Rush Limbaugh a little bit with mild criticism and in two shakes of a rabbit’s tail, he apologizes.

Pathetic.

Frankly, I don’t know which it is.
    - Repubs are terrified of looking like they don’t toe the line and, without prompting, rush to apologize when they realize they might have caused offense.
    - Rush et al are so thin skinned that the slightest hint of disapproval, no, make that the slightest hint of non-sycophancy must be immediately squashed.

Both, I suspect. Either way, it doesn’t speak well of the Rebus as people of honesty or integrity or as adults.

  2. ed says:

In defense of the many Republicans who came back on their knees, groveling to the de facto leader of the party, Rush Limbaugh: A significant constituency of the Republicans is racist assholes. And if you piss off Mr. Limbaugh, you piss off the racist assholes. And we can’t have that in the modern Republican party.

Look, in all fairness, the same thing happens whenever a Democratic criticizes Our Leader, Ward Churchill. [/crazylyingbullshit]

  5. Quaker in a Basement says:

    From the linked article:

“Nothing the congressman said diminished the role Rush has played and continues to play in the conservative movement.”

Considering the current state of the movement, you’d think Rush would want his role to be diminished. Or maybe he really wants to take credit from running the car into the ditch.

Not even Stalin had this kind of cult of personality.

I don’t know whether to laugh or pity. No law, I suppose, that says I can’t do both.

  8. Jay Tea says:

God, how appalling. These Republicans are genuflecting to Limbaugh just like… well, Obama to the King of Saudi Arabia.

    LimpBall leads the right.

  10. Jaim says:

At least Obama didn’t kiss the guy, unlike you’re hero George W.

But please, continue to try and misdirect rather than acknowledge your party is doomed.

  11. Eric Sipple says:

Jay, I’m always proud of your ability to display neither humor nor insight. Keep it up.

  12. ed says:

I don’t get it. Please explain.

  13. randy says:

    Bow down to leader who?

“House Democratic leaders, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), have ratcheted up the pressure on their rank-and-file members to oppose a resolution calling for an ethics committee investigation into the ties between key Democrats and a controversial defense-lobbying firm.”

Drain the swamp Ms. Pelosi? Eh, not so much.

    Most corrupt congress ever!

  14. randy says:

“So many miles to go before that’s even a close comparison.”

I love the smell of hypocrisy in the morning.

  15. Jay Tea says:

Oliver, I guess you missed the deep, almost reverent bow President Obama gave to King Abdullah. Here’s a video clip:

In Obama’s defense, I don’t think it was subservience. It was just plain ignorance — American presidents greet foreign leaders as equals, and do NOT bow or otherwise show subservience. Especially to a king from a culture so steeped in symbolism as the oil-ticks of Saudi Arabia.

  16. Sean D. Martin says:

Jay Tea: God, how appalling. These Republicans are genuflecting to Limbaugh just like… well, Obama to the King of Saudi Arabia.

You strike me, at times, as a reasonable intelligent person. When you let your partisanship overwhelm your brain to make such stupid comparisons is not one of those times.

I’ve made a similar comment to CSS once: You undermine your own arguments and credibility when you feel compelled to go for the dismissive stupid insult.

  17. Crusty Dem says:

JT, I couldn’t agree more. I think Obama just didn’t have the guts to meet King Abdullah on a more even level and greet him with the traditional open-mouthed kiss (no tongue), followed by extended hand holding.

Please continue to create meaning to any greeting, gift, or pointless detail (Obama’s bow is signaling that he’ll begin Sharia law at noon on Wednesday) we’ll just be over here, pointing and laughing (it’s fun!). But don’t worry, it’s because we’re afraid of you and your irrefutable logic.

  18. Sean D. Martin says:

Jay Tea: … the deep, almost reverent bow …

“reverent” Oh, please. I know it’s Obama and therefore EVERYthing he does is further demonstration of his sheer incompetence. I mean, the guy gave the Queen of England a gift she specifically asked for, right? What a tool!

Sheesh! Next thing you know he’ll be walking hand-in-hand with the guy.

  19. Duros62 says:

W/r/t Rush, I think Joe Biden said it best.

“Who gives a shit what he says? He’s a loser.”

  20. C.S.Strowbridge says:

J.G.Thayer: “God, how appalling. These Republicans are genuflecting to Limbaugh just like… well, Obama to the King of Saudi Arabia.”

J.G.Thayer: “Oliver, I guess you missed the deep, almost reverent bow President Obama gave to King Abdullah. Here’s a video clip…”

And did you complain when Bush kissed the Saudi King and held his hand?

    If not, go fuck yourself.

    Fucking hypocrite.

Hell, Bush not only kissed the King’s cheek literally, he kissed his ass figuratively. I’ll judge Obama’s performance not by what he does as part of standard cultural greeting, but how tough he gets behind closed doors.

Then again, I judge people based on the goals they set and their ability to get them done. Not whether or not they have an R or a D after their name. That’s why I stopped supporting the Republicans in the first place.

  21. Tyro says:

Jay Tea, is there a reason you’re making an ass out of yourself? I’m kind of curious about this. I suppose you could have ignored the post or something, or perhaps made a defense of Rush, but instead you’ve decided to take the role of “Republican talking points troll.” Is there a reason for this? You must know that around here, it means that you’re regarded as sort of an ass. Are there social circles in which you travel in which this sort of behavior and repetition of talking points is considered praiseworthy?

  22. Parthenon says:

That’s why I stopped supporting the Republicans in the first place.

I find it hard to believe you did in the first place. That’s just crazy.

  23. C.S.Strowbridge says:

Me: “That’s why I stopped supporting the Republicans in the first place.”

Parthenon: “I find it hard to believe you did in the first place. That’s just crazy.”

    I liked Bush Sr.

  24. Jay Tea says:

Strowbridge, you are so full of shit that you must detour around the laxative aisle out of sheer self-preservation.

    1) The greetings you cited are those usually exchanged between equals. The bowing is the act of a supplicant, or at least an inferior acknowledging superiority.

    B) I have long been unhappy with the way our government — regardless of administration — has treated the Saudi oil ticks. Their way of dealing with internal turmoil — telling the troublemakers “here’s some money, go bother someone else” has had the net result of simply exporting terrorism. In essence, they have treated the rest of the world as their open sewer pipe, and routinely flush it with cash. And because they sit on top of so much oil, we take their crap — in several sense of the word. It’s one of the many reasons I supported the very limited opening up of offshore drilling, ANWR, and research into shale.

III) If the words “fuck” and “racist” were ever to vanish, you’d find yourself with almost nothing to say. And that would be a tremendous improvement.

    J.

  25. C.S.Strowbridge says:

J.G.Thayer: “Strowbridge, you are so full of shit that you must detour around the laxative aisle out of sheer self-preservation.”

I really hope you don’t think you were being witty here.

“1) The greetings you cited are those usually exchanged between equals. The bowing is the act of a supplicant, or at least an inferior acknowledging superiority.”

It’s a sign of respect to the title. Nothing more.

“B) I have long been unhappy with the way our government…”

Unhappy? Did it make you unhappy enough to do something?

And this still doesn’t address the main issue. You are hung up on greeting and are not interested in the substance of Obama’s policy.

“III) If the words ‘fuck’ and ‘racist’ were ever to vanish, you’d find yourself with almost nothing to say. And that would be a tremendous improvement.”

Style over substance with regards to fuck.
As for ‘racist’… If you don’t want me to call you racist, don’t be fucking racist.

When they guy had the picture of watermelons on the White House lawn, you complained when I mentioned the Southern Strategy, even though you admitted the picture was racist. So this isn’t about racism, it’s about you defending racism within the GOP.

  26. Jaim says:

J.T. should change his initials to IOKIYAR.

  27. merl says:

i’m just glad the names are posted before the comment. that way I can ignore jay the tabagger.

  28. Jay Tea says:

Well, Jaim, I’ve often cited that as a rule around these parts… I’ts OK If You’re Attacking Republicans.

    J.

  29. Jaim says:

Dude, you keep bringing up Obama’s handshake and bow after people have linked to the photos of George W. Bush kissing the Saudi head of state.

But please, continue and try to distract us from the fact that Republican congressmen worship Limbaugh.

  30. Crusty Dem says:

Strowbridge, you are so full of shit that you must detour around the laxative aisle out of sheer self-preservation.

I’ve said it before, JT, humor is not your forte. Stick with your strength, relentless changing the topic to avoid the obvious holes in your argument. It’s the best you’ve got.

  31. C.S.Strowbridge says:

J.G.Thayer: “Well, Jaim, I’ve often cited that as a rule around these parts… I’ts OK If You’re Attacking Republicans.”

Thank you for admitting defeat on all points I brought up.

1.) You whining about Obama is pure partisan bullshit, as you did not do the same with Bush.

2.) You are concentrating on the superficial to avoid the substantive points. Whining about Obama bowing while ignoring policy change.

3.) Your claims that you attacked Bush for his policies towars Saudi Arabia are without foundation.

4.) You attacking me over my accusations of racism has nothing to so with me seeing racism everywhere, but with you defending real racism within the GOP.

Thank you for those clear admissions.

  32. C.S.Strowbridge says:

J.G.Thayer: “Strowbridge, you are so full of shit that you must detour around the laxative aisle out of sheer self-preservation.”

Crusty Dem: “I’ve said it before, JT, humor is not your forte. Stick with your strength, relentless changing the topic to avoid the obvious holes in your argument. It’s the best you’ve got.”

Don’t forget running away like a coward when his talking points fall apart. I have a funny feeling that’s going to happen here.

  33. Duros62 says:

Jay The bowing is the act of a supplicant, or at least an inferior acknowledging superiority.

So what is the full-on mouth kiss and strolling through the p[ark hand-in-hand?

    Genuinely curious.

  34. Jay Tea says:

I just checked with an ex-girlfriend, Duros, and she said it was a sign of affection and equality, NOT of subservience.

Tacky and inappropriate in Bush’s case, but NOT subservient.

I swear, if Obama had bowed just a degree or two lower, the King coulda teabagged him…

    J.

  35. C.S.Strowbridge says:

J.G.Thayer: “I swear, if Obama had bowed just a degree or two lower, the King coulda teabagged him…”

    And there we have it.

J.G.Thayer’s clear admission of defeat on all points. He’s just here to attack Obama with some veiled gay slur.

  36. Duros62 says:

You’re reaching, Jay. Isn’t there anything substantive you can criticize him on?

  37. C.S.Strowbridge says:

Duros62: “You’re reaching, Jay. Isn’t there anything substantive you can criticize him on?”

    No. That’s why he’s reaching.
