Instapundit links to a post I wrote 6 years ago (without the follow up clarification) as to my position on torture. He of course does this in the candyass passive aggressive way he always does (when I accuse someone of something I use their name, and I do so on a site that has my name). Like I said at the time, I viewed the entire thing as a ticking-time bomb scenario and I certainly did not support the Bush policy of just screwing with people for the heck of it and throwing out the constitution.
Furthermore, I’ve learned since then. I’m interested in killing Al Qaeda and destroying their networks (that’s why I support Democrats, because Republicans are clearly uninterested). I don’t – like Glenn Reynolds has – support presidential administrations that define away torture and do so with legal b.s. in order to pervert what America stands for. We don’t get good information from it and its immoral.
Glenn’s man-crush on you knows no bounds.
Maybe I am missing something here but I get that Reynolds is trying to say you flip flopped on torture, but doesn’t his post from back then that you were responding to also show that he has flip flopped on torture since he doesn’t seem too interested in going after those that did it? I am thinking maybe you should turn the tables on him and ask him why he isn’t so sure anymore about torture being wrong in any circumstance.
By the way the right keeps throwing out Nancy Pelosi and she has already responded but few people ever take up for her. She said she was briefed not consulted and many people did voice disagreement but Bush wasn’t interested in their opinion. The catch 22 was that it was a top secret briefing so there was no one they could confide in about their misgivings. Thats the perfect CYA situation because you know you can say what you want to about it but the people you told can never speak on it less they open themselves up to charges of working against national security.
So … do you support appointing a prosecutor to go after the Bush folks, or would you rather sit back and wait for Instapundit to provoke you again so you can snap back at him?
do you support appointing a prosecutor to go after the Bush folks
Yep.
Glenn Reynolds acting like Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction once again
Strangely enough, I’m with you on the torture stuff. Going after Bush folks though….eh….waste of time.
yo mama: Going after Bush folks though….eh….waste of time.
Why?
Hey O,
Glad you got over the “we need to torture to get al qaeda” meme. When did this happen?
On prosecution, I think the best we can do is shame these folks and ban them from govt service for life…
Not fair considering the draconian punishments we give other offenders (see non-violent drug crimes), but hey they are rich, powerful, white folks so that is the best we will get out of “the best justice money can buy” legal system we have now…
