John Madden Retirement

Love the guy, but probably a few years past due for that retirement. And they’re replacing him with Cris Collinsworth? Bad call, I think.

Are you kidding me? Collinsworth is eons better than Madden as a color guy. Collinsworth sees the game; Madden, much as I love him, has been blathering obviousities for years.
I think he retired years ago. He just didn’t tell anyone.
same here. about time he quit.
I don’t disagree that it’s probably a few years late, although I love Madden, but I definitely disagree about Collinsworth. If it had been anyone else, I would have been disappointed. In other news, on PTI they just said Dan Snyder is “smitten” with Mark Sanchez (quoting Wash D.C. writer). How do you feel about that?
Madden is/was a horrible color commentator. And matched with perhaps the greatest play-by-play guy, Al Michaels made him look worse. He consistently got replays wrong, only to be corrected by Michaels and for all to yelling and “boom” schtick, he signified nothing.
“If they don’t make the touchdown here, they’ll have to go for the field goal.”
“You know, there’s fumbles and there’s fumbles, and this was a fumble.” (BTW, it wasn’t)
Frank Caliendo is rendered relevant because Madden is/was that bad. He does/did for football color commentating what Tim McCarver does for baseball. It’s hard for me to believe he was ever a good coach. I figure that Al Davis was pulling the strings then as he has recently. That’s the only explanation. Good riddance. Get Dierdorf back in the booth. Pronto.
i hope they keep making the Madden football Xbox games, those rock
