26% Of Americans Are Idiots
I think we can conconclusively prove this now. A poll just came out from CNN showing that when asking Americans of Obama policies have made America less safe, 72% say they have not while 26% sides with Dick Cheney’s delusions.
This same 26-30% keeps cropping up in poll after poll, and they really believe some of the dumbest things in the world.
* They approve of the job George W. Bush did as president
* They support Sarah Palin, still
* A subset of them think that Barack Obama is either a Muslim, not American, or both
* They don’t think President Obama is doing a good job on the economy, or orverall
It’s pretty clear that this is the same 26% or thereabouts, the people who would be against President Obama and Democrats if they descended from Heaven (“Trickery!” they would howl.) 26% of this country is clearly stupid.
I hope they have fun at their tea parties on Tuesday.

Depressing, isn’t it, Oliver?
I brought it up elsewhere… 1 in 4….what a depressing statistic.
1 of 4 Americans would willingly refuse to deal rationally with reality, even with it slapping their face
Don’t forget that Alan Keyes got 27% of the vote against Barack Obama. That was the number that was first chosen as the “Crazification Factor”… what would be GW Bush’s floor of support.
If 26% of the country believes that Obama has made the country less safe, then it means that Obama is doing as well with the public as he can possibly do.
Is 26% the new 42?
Modest Proposal: Offer whatever it takes to get the 26% to go North to Alaska, where we can grant them and the present residents full sovereign immunity. I kind of liked the 49 star flag design, anyway.
I have tremendous respect for Sarah Palin.
frankly, i was expecting a higher number. somewhat heartened by the fact it’s only 1 in 4…did you see the daily kos poll? http://www.dailykos.com/statepoll/2009/4/9/US/284 i think they all live in the south, which i’m allowed to say since i’m from there…although i had the good sense to go west.
A screaming argument for education reform in this country. Remember how many Americans believe in ghosts? That dinosaurs walked the earth with early man? Who can’t name the 3 branches of gov’t? Etc. etc. So this stat can’t be surprising.
We’re only as good as our educational system…
Offer whatever it takes to get the 26% to go North to Alaska
I suspect that the breakdown of the electorate is like a fractal: each non-crazy portion of the electorate has its own crazy 27%.
Remember that nearly 50% of Americans actually *voted* for Bush.
That’s what made America hated around the world, because people thought that Americans liked him.
Thank god Obama got in. Thank Mohammed, thank Buddha, thank whoever, just be goddam grateful, that is all.
Fran…please…seek psychiatric help.
Terry Travers: Offer whatever it takes to get the 26% to go North to Alaska
Hmm. Liking that idea. Perhaps we can tell them the rest of the states will soon be under attack from a mutant star goat.
How do other countries fare in this respect? anotherbozo suggests it’s a result of the poor state of education in the US.
Do other countries which supposedly have better education than the US NOT have a 26% idiot amount?
Somebody has to keep the average IQ down at 100. Those 26% represent everybody under the 27th percentile, or half the people with below average intelligence. The dumber half.
Ahh…the crazification factor. One of the best blog posts ever. I revisit every so often.

There’s just some people out there whose attitude is, “Reality be damned. I’m gonna’ believe what I want to believe.”
Sean,
Good idea! I’m more than willing to clean my OWN telephone.
Reminds me of one of my mom’s apothegms:
“People are dumber than anybody else.”
Or, as it’s sometimes put, think about how bright the
‘average person’ is, and then remember than half of
everybody is dumber than THAT.
Actually, this group is what is known as “some of the people all of the time.”
Ed
What Obama policies is the poll referring to?
