Karl Rove Is Clearly A Comedian

I’m really not interested in the merits or demerits of this non-story* about Joe Biden and what he did or didn’t say to George W. Bush (I’m inclined to believe Biden, but whatever) but this quote from Karl Rove is hilarious:

“You should not exaggerate and lie like this when you are the Vice President of the United States.”

Karl Rove worked for the biggest liar and most odious excuse of a subhuman being in history to ever hold the office of the vice presidency in the guise of Dick Cheney. For Rove to lecture on Vice Presidential truthfulness is like Oedipus lecturing on what an appropriate relationship with your mother is.

* The story is the perfect kind of nonsense Drudge story that once determined our political fates in America, and I found it on Drudge. Thankfully for the time being we’re very over that obsession with Republican-created trivia noise.

Shorter Oliver: Obama’s choice for veep is a serial bullshitter who seems to believe his own bullshit, and that’s just fine with me!

A while ago, I wrote about the “Three B’s” of Joe Biden: when challenged, he bullies, he blusters, and he bullshits. The more forcefully he states something, the more likely he’s talking out of his ass.

And Obama hand-picked him to be one heartbeat away from the presidency.

Bullshitting is a useful skill. It can take you far in life.

In other news, I think Oedipus would have quite a bit of credibility on the “relationship with mom” front. Yeah, his didn’t turn out that well, but at least he did something about it.

  4. Jay Tea says:

True enough, tom. But Biden has two flaws: 1) his little fantasies are too easily disproven, and B) he acts like he actually believes them, even after they’re debunked.

His “line” to Bush smacks of “I wish I’d said that!” And somehow, that’s been spun in Biden’s mind into “I really did say that!”

My default responses to anything Karl Rove says are ‘who gives a shit’ and ’shut the fuck up.’

    Can’t help it.

What is the canard Oliver loves to toss around in his epic generalizations about conservatives?

I’m sure it will come to me…

It’s right on the tip of my tongue…

    Oh, yes…

    They. Make. Shit. Up.

But as we all know… and Oliver continues to prove on a daily basis…

    It’s. Okay. If. You’re. A. Democrat.

What hypocrisy, Oliver. Really, quite stunning. Does Uncle George pay bonuses for this stuff?

Matt, SO close… but the term is IOKIYAR: It’s OK If You’re Attacking Republicans.

  8. SAM NY says:

Dick Cheney is not subhuman. It doesn’t strengthen your argument by saying such truly odious things. Of course you didn’t address the substance of Karl Rove’s response. It’s no secret that Joe Biden is known as a blowhard. Hell, even BO makes fun of him. You know Joe Biden did actually make it up but you can’t say so. And Karl Rove called him on it. Instead, your enlightened, nuanced, sophisticated, tolerant classic liberal reply is to discredit any critics by classifying as “subhuman”. The Nazis called people subhuman, didn’t they?

It would be like my responding to your post by saying you’re a massively obese retard who should get a real job and stop eating 9 meals a day. Well, no, it wouldn’t really by like that b/c that’s true. But it would still be the wrong thing to do. So, I apologize Fatty.

  9. mambochicken23 says:

Sam, you’ve just proven yourself to be in the upper pantheon of douchebags on the internet. You’re the unwelcome party guest that drunkenly marches through the front door with muddy shoes and no pants, sits on the nice leather furniture, takes a shit in the silverware drawer, and leaves. Show some fucking respect.

Not to mention that your premise is totally wrong anyway. OW was commenting on the absurdity of Rove chastising Biden for exaggerating and lying when Cheney, a guy Rove worked for, held the same position and told far-more-monstrous lies. It’s hypocrisy at its finest.

Cheney being subhuman, well, that’s just a bonus.

  10. Haha. So fun watching right-wingers who are so obsessed with trolling message boards that they have no choice but to defend Dick Cheney just… because. What’s the web troll equivalent of alcoholism?

  11. Oy Vey says:

Everybody please read SAM NY’s post. It is brilliant. Mr. Willis is not interested in the facts. He is only interested in calling people names and attacking them personally. Of course that has become the modus operandi of the New Left.

So let’s address the substance. Tell us, Mr. Willis, do you believe what Joe Biden said or don’t you? And if you don’t, do you think it is responsible behavior for the Vice President of the U. S. to make up stories about the previous President?

I know you and your compatriots are consumed with hatred but maybe you can find a lucid, responsible moment. Do you think the current VP’s behavior is helpful to Mr. Obama? I’ll bet he doesn’t think so.

I took a dump two hours ago. I didn’t feel the need to tell other about it until you once again pranced in to tell us what a SERIOUS THINKER AMIRITE? you are.

Biden’s doing fine as veep. He isn’t ruining the country, making him objectively more effective than “deficits don’t matter” Cheney.

I suppose it could be worse… Biden could be more than just a pathological liar one heartbeat away from the presidency.

He could be a pathological racist liar with a drug-addled daughter, one heartbeat away from the presidency.

Good thing that’s not the case.

But even so, it would be okay with Oliver, because at least he’d be OUR pathological racist liar with a drug-addled daughter, one heartbeat away from the presidency.

On the left, anything is excusable if your ideology is right. That’s what makes it a non-story.

Thanks for making my point. IOKIYAD.

  22. Duros62 says:

You draw the equivalence with Palin in condemnation, but still, Biden is excused.

    Didn’t say that.

Is Biden an idiot at times? Yes, he is. Does he stick his own foot up his ass sometimes? Yes, he does. This is probably one of those times.

But I’ll still take him over Palin OR Cheney any day.

  23. Duros62 says:

BTW, to whom are you referring here?

  26. Tyro says:

SAM NY, didn’t see you complaining about Cheney when he was VP? Why? Too much of a coward, but now you like to act like a “big man” when Biden is VP? Why should we give a damn what you say now when you couldn’t be bothered to complain about Cheney before? Moral midgets like Rove and SAM here can just shut their fat mouths about Biden, because they were cowering under their beds afraid to criticze Cheney when it counted.

Meanwhile, Rove is one of those guys who likes to say outrageous things “because he can,” knowing that he’ll never get called on it. He probably enjoys thinking to himself, “You see how I said that Biden should watch what he says right in front of that reporter and how he didn’t say a word in response?” it’s a form of displaying one’s dominance. Rove shows that he is the dominant male to reporters by saying outrageous things about Biden without being called on it.

  27. White Whale says:

    Zython,
Thanks for the link. What an unimaginable creep. Unfortunately I met many creeps like this in college.

  28. Zython says:

Speaking of crazies on the news: Glenn Beck threatens to set people on fire if Obama doesn’t resign. But believe him, he had NOTHING to do with instigating the Pittsburgh shooting.

  29. Duros62 says:

Rove shows that he is the dominant male to reporters by saying outrageous things about Biden without being called on it.

Actually, it more spotlights the submissive nature of the lapdog press.

  30. Duros62 says:

Zython, I can’t tell whether Glenn should stop doing his show drunk or continue.
Liable or not, he’s the biggest douche on TV.

  31. Rheinhard says:

Zython – sweet merciful crap! If you doubted that Beck was insane before now, that should clinch it! “We can disagree about policy…” but if you don’t follow my policy prescriptions then you are A TRAITOR WHO IS SETTING THE NATION ON FIRE THAT MUST BE STOPPED AT ALL COSTS!! What a piece of crap.

And speaking of pieces of crap, that’s too kind a description for all the rethuglicans attacking Biden’s daughter because she wouldn’t spread her legs for that misogynist College Republican creep. Are there any College Republicans who don’t abuse women on a regular basis?

  32. Jay Tea says:

You took a dump a few yours ago, Jaim? That explains your comments. You done flushed away what few brains you had.

I cited the piece I wrote a while ago to point out that Biden’s propensity for Just Making Shit Up is historic. It was in Claremont, NH in 1988 that it first came to most people’s attention, and this story shows that 20 years later, he hasn’t changed in the least.

He’s only just got a bigger megaphone.

    J.

  33. Tyro says:

Hey Jay Tea, you shithead, you’re in a hot and bothered tantrum about Biden now, but only because he kicked your republican ass. You were too much of a cowardly little shit to ever say anything bad about Cheney, when he was obviously a more destructive, worse person. Why was that? And since you weren’t able to speak up against Cheney, why should we give a damn about your worthless opinions now?

You right wing cowards FAILED to criticize Cheney… your moral judgment is obviously lacking, so I think you should keep your trap shut when it comes to Biden, who’s an objectively better person than you are. You’ve no moral standing to criticize hiim, given the fact that you are a clearly, clearly less informed, more dishonest, more immoral person than Biden.

If you think Biden is so bad, once again, why the HELL didcn’t you say a bad word about Cheney. And why are you wasting OUR time complaining to us about Biden when you were nowhere to be found when it came to Cheney’s destructiveness? It’s because you, you worthless toady, are only mindlessly repeating the anti-Biden shit you’ve been fed. You’ve no capacity of independent moral judgment. So stop wasting our time.

Jay Tea, every day you expose the right-wing for nothing but a bunch of worthless cowards of no political value to this country. If you had been worth anything, you and the rest of the right would have pressured the country to get rid of Cheney. I find it very difficult to believe that Biden in any way bothers you so. You’re just another useless right wing piece of trash impotently lashing out cover up for the moral worthlessness of your life.

  34. Crusty Dem says:

You took a dump a few yours ago, Jaim? That explains your comments. You done flushed away what few brains you had.

Wow, JT, that has got to be the best scripted comeback since “The jerk store called, they’re running out of you!” I’m sure Jaim is somewhere weeping right now, I know I am. Don’t give up your day job, ok? Unless this is your day job, in which case, uh, wow, I just made myself sad.

  35. Duros62 says:

Remember, Jay, it’s SUPPOSED to taste like a shit taco.

  36. Socraticsilence says:

Jay- So would you say Biden is approaching Reagan levels of lying and exaggeration or does he still have a ways to go before he can reach “I fought in WW 2″ status. I mean I’m assuming once he reaches that level conservatives will suddenly declare Biden the greatest VP in American history regardless of his actual record of achievment.

  37. Jaim says:

Please point to an instance where Biden has made a major flub.

And no, a right-wing bedwetter blog post doesn’t count. Please demonstrate to me that a majority of the American people have lost confidence in Biden.

He wasn’t my first choice, but he’s miles ahead of Cheney, a guy who tried to establish his own shadow government, who thought deficits didn’t matter, who SHOT SOMEONE IN FUCKING FACE, thus bringing shame on his own office.

  38. Jaim says:

    err, THE FUCKING FACE.

    More coffee please.

  39. Crusty Dem says:

Please point to an instance where Biden has made a major flub.

Clearly, being called a liar by noted expert Karl Rove is definitely a huge blow. I don’t know how he can recover from this, the only thing that could be worse is if George W Bush had called him a lazy, disinterested, nepotistic waste of space. Or if Colin Powell said he’d lost his dignity. Or if Dick Cheney had called him a bad shot. Or if Jay Tea had called his comeback “lame”.

  40. Jaim says:

In all seriousness, I’m not sure if Republicans are capable of tactical politics any longer (i.e., “winning elections”). They’d much rather read each other’s bullshit and pretend that it’s true, even in the face of objective evidence that Obama and Biden are pretty popular right now. And that in a few years the Democratic Party will be able to claim complete success for lifting us out of the Bush II/Republican Recession.

I think we’ll see the GOP split in two a lot sooner than previously (reality-based Romney wing vs. Koo-Koo Klub Palin/Limbaugh wing). The center cannot hold, especially with children in charge.

  41. Jay Tea says:

In all seriousness, I’m not sure if Republicans are capable of tactical politics any longer (i.e., “winning elections”).

Congrats, Jaim. You found a substitute for “sincerely.” Of course, in your context, “in all seriousness” is just as meaningless as “sincerely,” but props for finding a different way of saying it.

Joe Biden is rapidly turning into another Dan Quayle — but without the oh-so-charming deer-in-the-headlights look. No, instead, no one ever calls Biden on his “Hey, Joe, where you goin’ with that dumb in your hand” moments to his face, so he just goes on spouting his bullshit and acting like he not only “sincerely” and “in all seriousness” believes his own bullshit, but can’t conceive anyone would ever question his flights of fantasy.

    Oh, and Jaim:

Please point to an instance where Biden has made a major flub.

And no, a right-wing bedwetter blog post doesn’t count. Please demonstrate to me that a majority of the American people have lost confidence in Biden.

Nice try — ask a question, then change the question in the next two sentences. “Major flubs?” There are zillions. A flub that resulted in “a majority of the American people have lost confidence in Biden?” I’m sure you can whip up some poll to “prove” that that hasn’t happened. Never mind that the American people shouldn’t HAVE any “confidence” in Biden to lose in the first place — “I HAVE TEH NUMBERS AND TEH POLLS THAT PROOOOVE YOU RONG!”

Biden’s gaffes? They take up VOLUMES. “Stand up, Chuck!” Busting on Chief Justice Roberts while administering oaths — that one was so bad, Obama had to check him on it. His description of Obama — “the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.” “Hillary Clinton would have been a better vice-president.” “It all boils down to a three-letter word: jobs.” Franklin Roosevelt going on TV to address the American people after the stock market crash. “you cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent.” “Paying higher taxes is patriotic.”

So here (back to the original topic) we have Joe Biden, whose memory only occasionally coincides with reality, saying that he gave Bush a brutal put-down in a meeting with Bush and his aides — and his aides are all saying that it never happened.

If Biden said that he always remembered that the sun rose in the East and set in the West, I’d be double-checking that.

    J.

  42. Jaim says:

“Joe Biden is rapidly turning into another Dan Quayle”

You can say this over and over, but it doesn’t make it so. Obviously you and your fellow bed-wetters hate the guy, but like I asked, please show me some sort of proof that Biden is reviled by reality-based Americans unlike, say, our last veep who actually shot a man in the face, among other things.

And I guess your next shriek will be “ZOMG POLLS DON’T MATTER.” But they do. When a president is reasonably well liked and apparatchiks like you claim they aren’t, that’s simply ignoring reality.

And it’s what you’re best at.

Until Republicans can separate their personal taste from the reality on the ground among voters, they are doomed as a party. And I couldn’t be happier.

So please keep smoking your own bullshit. tia.

  43. The Dark Avenger says:

Obviously, ‘conservative-addled’ is clearly better than ‘drug-addled’, because the former state requires no illegal substances, just close your eyes and ears to the reality around you and lash out when someone says “Elections have consequences.”

  44. Jay Tea says:

please show me some sort of proof that Biden is reviled by reality-based Americans

Boy, Jaim, your back must be sore from moving that goalpost around. First it was “major gaffes,” then it was “major gaffes that lost him the faith of a majority of Americans,” and now it’s “reviled by reality-based Americans.”

The guy is a buffoon. A bozo. A major-league clod. I don’t revile him in the least; I find myself amazed that he’s still taken seriously by anyone.

“Reality-based Americans” (that phrase always reminded me of the old “based on real events” in TV movies; it’s about as accurate) will never lose faith in Biden; he was anointed by Obama, and that absolves him of anything he has ever done and ever will.

But that emperor still has no clothes.

    J.

  45. Crusty Dem says:

A query for JT, have you ever referred to George W Bush as a buffoon? A bozo? A major-league clod? An emperor with no clothes? If not, I doubt anyone “reality-based” will value your learned assessment, and with good reason.

  46. Jaim says:

“In my opinion, one which is held by a minority of Americans, Joe Biden is a bozo. A major-league clod. I don’t revile him in the least; I find myself amazed that he’s still taken seriously by anyone.”

Fixed that for ya. You can say this all you want, but America doesn’t agree with you. Simple as that. Maybe he’s not as popular as Obama, but it’s only wing-nut dead-enders like you that hold this opinion.

But please, continue to believe that your minority opinion is actually representative of adult, reality-based Americans. Republicans can pretend Biden is considered to be a fool (unlike the last guy, who SHOT ANOTHER HUMAN BEING IN THE FACE), and they can continue to revel in made-up stories about Obama the Muslim terrorist anti-white radical and so on, and all of this is simply wasted energy, time, and effort. And it convinces me that instead of re-grouping and actually trying to make some gains in 2010 and 2012, the Republican party will, in fact, collapse into something slightly more popular and socially acceptable than the KKK. They simply don’t seem to want to win elections any more. They just want to whine and complain about how 2008 was “stolen” from them.

    Thanks for playing, yet again.

  47. fafaroo says:

The guy is a buffoon. A bozo. A major-league clod. I don’t revile him in the least; I find myself amazed that he’s still taken seriously by anyone.

Once more, Jay Tea’s utter lack of self-awareness is simply staggering.

  48. Jay Tea says:

Wow. All these people, racing to Joe Biden’s defense. He would be SO touched if he knew; maybe I should give him this web site’s number.

As usual, no one seems to want to talk about how great Joe Biden is, or how wrong I am when I cite his numerous gaffes. Anything else, sure; the actual topic at hand (does Joe Biden have a stupendous history of just plain Making Shit Up that makes him look good? You betcha!), not so much.

    J.

  49. Jaim says:

Actually I’m not even really defending the guy. I’m just pointing out that having a notoriously dumb wing-nut troll like you saying, over and over, JOE BIDEN SUXXX!!! is indicative of your opinion and the three other guys in their moms’ basements that agree with you. A trend, and certainly not a majority, this does not make.

He’s doing a reasonable job so far as veep. Compared to Cheney, who was Constitutionally illiterate and SHOT ANOTHER HUMAN BEING IN THE FACE, Biden is Winston freakin’ Churchill.

After eight years of Cheney, Americans are relieved to have a prez and a veep who aren’t ridiculous embarrassments. And only someone as ideologically warped as you can’t grok that simple fact.

But like I said, the longer you get high off of your own FreeRepublic farts, the longer it will take for the Republican party to ever mount a serious threat to Democratic dominance. And I don’t think this period of complete ignorance will last forever, but it’s sure going to last longer than anyone expected. in November of 2008.

  50. Rove is about as relevant as freedom fries; and ten times as fattening.

  51. Jay Tea says:

Jaim, are you actually comparing to Cheney’s singular vacation accident to what Biden does every single day?

More to the point: Ted Kennedy’s car has killed more people than every single gun Dick Cheney owns.

Still… it is very compelling that when Biden needs defending, everyone leaps to the same response: “he’s marginally better than Cheney/Bush/whatever!”

That wasn’t the standard Obama put forth when he named him as his running mate…

    J.
