So Oliver might want to become better informed before he wildly accuses mainstream conservative outlets of promoting “conspiracy theories.” The Obama is a Muslim – wasn’t born here – fake birth certificate – is a terrorst – crew are relegated to the fringes of conservatism with most mainstream conservatives condemning the idiocy.
Andy McCarthy on National Review Online, July 6, 2008:
Our Jim Geraghty seemed to pooh-pooh the birth certificate controversy about a week ago, but according to the above cited report (at a site called DougRoss@Journal) and a new one from Israeli Insider, there are new developments, and the Obama campaign appears to be stonewalling. Shouldn’t it be a fairly easy matter to prove he was born in Hawaii if he really was? Why wouldn’t Obama just end this quickly?
Granted, National Review is the sort of publication that once advocated against Martin Luther King so it should be consigned to the fringes of American society. But alas, what is fringe and nutty to most Americans is mainstream conservative thought. Like the National Review. Like the ideas being pushed by Fox News, right wing radio and the like about Democrats and liberals from Bill Clinton to Barack Obama.
The right refuses to acknowledge the consequences of the atmosphere they helped create and continue to foster, so its up to regular Joes like myself to point them out.
Also:
One of the milder Palin Mob videos, also.
What a classy bunch of folksy folks. Just regular people who say what they mean and mean what they say. If you know what I mean.
Of course they won’t own up to it. That’s a hallmark of modern wingnuttia they adopted from their hero Bush; NEVER admit making a mistake, because if you do, you are some French, limp wristed pansy.
The fact that they act surprised that sooner or later some fucking loser of a white man would go shooting based on paranoid unfounded lies he heard from Fox News or talk radio or shitholes like LGF or Redstate tells you everything you need to know about these assholes.
Oh well, they are circling the drain, and they know it. They’ve lost politically and culturally and now they are digging in like their hero Glen Beck tells them to do.
This will happen again, there really are that many uptight losers out there who think someone else is responsible for their shitty lot in life.
Frank Gaffney was just on Hardball basically saying President Obama wants the country to submit to Sharia Law because he used the word “respect” in his speech in Turkey when referring to muslims. These people are now officially unspoofable.
Also, consider the existence of H.R. 1503, the “Birther bill” introduced to congress by US Rep. Bill Posey from FL.
The Obama is a Muslim – wasn’t born here – fake birth certificate – is a terrorst – crew are relegated to the fringes of conservatism with most mainstream conservatives condemning the idiocy.
SUUUURRRREE, they are.
Rick Moran: “The Obama is a Muslim – wasn’t born here – fake birth certificate – is a terrorst – crew are relegated to the fringes of conservatism with most mainstream conservatives condemning the idiocy.”
Duros62: “SUUUURRRREE, they are.”
The only time I see them ‘condemning the idiocy’ is when people like Oliver directly connect them to it. In other words, only when they are directly affected. Otherwise they let it pass.
Granted, this happens on the left, but our crackpots tend to be true fringers. The idiots protesting at the G-20 demanding the end of money. (What the fuck?) On the other hand, as Oliver points out above, NRO was spreading the ‘Obama’s not American’ meme.
alex: “Also, consider the existence of H.R. 1503, the ‘Birther bill’ introduced to congress by US Rep. Bill Posey from FL.”
Yeah. Federally elected official = mainstream.
Of course, Oliver ignores the addendum that McCarthy added which makes his entire point absolutely moot.
And guess what? The little attention paid by mainstream conservatives to whether or not Obama was eligible for the Presidency is no different from the panting a small vocal section liberals & Democrats did in 2000 when questioning whether or not Dick Cheney was eligible to be Vice-President because of residency issues in Wyoming.
I guess they were the ones shooting up Bush/Cheney campaign offices in 2004.
Oh but wait. Only conservatives commit acts of violence. Liberals are too busy patting themselves on the back for how much they “care” about things. My mistake.

Jay, I’m not sure where the snark is coming from as I think you’re the only one in this thread who is a public advocate of extremism.

That’s news to me. Of course, the angry left sees anything to the right of their agenda as “extreme” so I’ll just have to consider the source.
Only conservatives commit acts of violence.
Glad you finally admitted that.
The Left© might be angry, but they don’t shoot up churches.
