Obama Still Popular, Despite Fox News & Co.

The American people stubbornly refuse to believe the hype from Fox News, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Instapundit and the rest of the conservative disinformation apparatus.

The number of Americans who believe that the nation is headed in the right direction has roughly tripled since Barack Obama’s election, and the public overwhelmingly blames the excesses of the financial industry, rather than the new president, for turmoil in the economy, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

Two-thirds of Americans approve of the way Obama is handling the country’s top job, and six in 10 give him good marks on issue No. 1, the flagging economy. Those figures are little changed from last month. But he receives lower marks for dealing with the federal budget deficit after submitting a plan that would see continued huge deficits over the next decade. Fifty-two percent back Obama on his approach to the deficit, with the public split about evenly over whether belt-tightening or big increases in spending should be used to try to improve the economy.

66% approval? TIME TO GO GALT!

I don’t think that Fox News is saying he is “unpopular.” The attitude I’m getting is that the general public’s view of him as the new messiah is beginning to wane, as the reality of what he is capable of doing–and even more important–how much it is going to cost, sets in.

You mean we can’t trust the facts are not news channel? The new mantra is “We report you decide.” What they are saying is ‘We report you decide if it’s true.

You cannot belive the liberal slant that the post reports on.Obama decisions on his cabinet and the economy are very flawed.

It’s because most Americans are now rational thinkers. Only old people and rednecks watch Fax. The times are a changin! Yes!!

  6. Dennis says:

Partisan split in this poll, much?

    Democrat: 36%
    Republican: 25%
    Independent: 33%

Nothing like a little home-cookin’ to make people think things are hunky-dory despite Obama’s shaky start.

Chicken Soup for the Liberal Soul.

  7. mambochicken23 says:

Dennis, what makes you think that having an equal number of Democrats and Republicans represented in a political poll makes it more valid?

Why don’t you go look up the numbers regarding the self-identification of political party?

Or maybe I should just do it for you: http://pewresearch.org/pubs/773/fewer-voters-identify-as-republicans

    Sooo… any other questions?

This morning, as I was walking the Quaker kid to school, I saw a big van with the lettering, “Galt Moving.”

    I do not lie.

  9. Quaker in a Basement says:

    Galt Moving!

  10. There are more Democrats than Republicans in the country. I stupidly thought you guys would give up on this “there aren’t equal numbers in the poll” whine after 2008, but again, I overestimate the intelligence of the right.

At this point the binary question has been framed, directly or otherwise, as a choice between President Barack Obama and Racist Asshole Rush Limbaugh. And racist assholes are, thankfully, becoming less and less fashionable in the U.S.

That’s a pretty accurate reading of what’s going on. Kind of like when Paul Krugman debated Bill O’Reilly on the Tim Russert Show a few years back. Representing Teh Left: an tenured Ivy League Professor and future Nobel Laurette. Representing Teh Right (and the modern Republican party): a self-important racist and sexist reactionary blowhard. That’s where we’re at today. That’s the divide. Reality-based vs. Non-scientific dog-whistle scare mongers. The good guys are currently winning. Hopefully that trend will continue.

I don’t think the general public ever viewed Obama as “The new messiah” “The One” or any of the other tags the right-wing and his opponents have tried to hang on him in an kindergarten-level attempt to ridicule because they are incapable of forming a substantive criticism.

Even better – Galt Moving is based in Colorado!

No word on whether their moving vans run on a magical engine that runs on static electricity pulled out of Ayn Rand’s A$$ thin air…

  14. Quaker in a Basement says:

but again, I overestimate the intelligence of the right.

Understandable. It’s really hard not to.

  15. Marty says:

Funny you don’e mention the part where it says 57% of the country think we’re on the wrong track and only 42% say right track. Selective reading?

  16. Crusty Dem says:

You nailed it Marty, Obama hasn’t been able to improve those numbers at all. Oh wait, aren’t those numbers up from 7-15% as recently as 2 months ago? Who are you accusing of being selective again?

Geez, right track numbers triple and the wingnuts say it’s proof Obama is unpopular. Keep trying, nitwits…
