Of course people are depressed about the economic and banking crisises. The most grim feature of the entire episode, for any thinking citizen, is the realization that the party in power of both the legislative and executive branches is not only willing, but eager, to sacrifice the economic miracle-creating machine that is capitalism in exchange for the political power they can accumulate by dividing the people by class, pitting the lower classes against the better off, confusing the masses with lies and half truths about the objective and certain effects of their "economic" plans, and forcibly taking the fruits of the labors of those who have, unfortunately, managed to suceed in business. I weep for my children if we cannot retake some house of Congress soon.

The media are vultures. Reporting that emotions are running high and fights breaking out is fine, but much of this was just exhibitionism.
