Once again, Obama’s class, self-deprecating humor and ability to be quick on his feet pwns the GOP and their operatives.

  2. Parthenon says:

Seriously. What a genuinely cool thing to do for a guy who could have been royally embarrassed – make it funny – and then he gets raked over the coals and lied about over it.

What, you’re still tying your shoes?”

I do like the spectacle of the RWNM trying ever so
hard to paint #44 as an inarticulate, clueless
feeb with an outsized and unearned sense of entitlement.
The rest of us have a pretty good idea what a POTUS
    with those characteristics looks like.

  5. ed says:

Also, Al Gore never said he invented the Internet(s). Go figure.

It does give the term “Projection” a whole new meaning, don’t it?

  7. SpiderJ says:

See, and if Obama were really as gaffe-prone as conservatives would have me believe, then making up a gaffe strikes me as nothing more than being greedy.

Oh, hey, lookit that. Greedy conservatives. Who woulda thunk?

  8. C.S.Strowbridge says:

I’m looking forward to the right wingers excuses.

My money is on bringing up Dan Rather.

I’m not seeing where anything was “made up”. Media Matters doesn’t say they made it up. SkyNews reported it as such and Drudge and Limbaugh and Hannity went with that report, implying they were guilty of not being more critical.

So now you guys go with the “Conservatives Made Up Obama Teleprompter “Gaffe”” without being more critical of a claim that itself is made up.

    For shame.

  11. fafaroo says:

SkyNews reported it as such and Drudge and Limbaugh and Hannity went with that report, implying they were guilty of not being more critical.

Uh, ya. I happened to catch Limbaugh the morning he ranting about this. His approach: But if there was no gaffe, why wouldn’t the media release the video? Limbaugh’s answer to his own question was, of course, that the liberal media was in cahoots with the administration to protect Obama’s image.

“Not being more critical” is the least of the charges that could be leveled against such high asshattery.

  12. fafaroo says:

SkyNews reported it as such and Drudge and Limbaugh and Hannity went with that report, implying they were guilty of not being more critical.

And can we all pause here for a minute to marvel at the bullshit chain at work here?

A conservative run media outlet in the UK totally makes up a story about Obama and American conservative hacks run with it.
When the truth is later revealed, the American hacks cover their asses by saying, well, it was reported in a “legitimate” news source” “We should have been more critical.”

    That is just so awesome.

  13. Dennis says:

Why do we just now get this clarification a whole week later, fafaroo. And it is curious no video has been released, given the attention to this as a gaffe that has spawned a lot of criticism of Obama’s use of the teleprompter.

High asshatery? You think for one moment the far-left loons on the lib blogs wouldn’t be laughing and carrying on if SkyNews had reported the same story if Bush had done it instead of Obama?
And if there had been no video released no one would be questioning that?

    C’mon.

  14. Jaim says:

Amazing. Republicans have no fucking sense of shame whatsoever.

And our resident troll Dennis still tries to defend it. Awesome.

  15. Jaim says:

“And it is curious no video has been released”

Indeed, Dennis. Until we receive video that confirms that Obama does not sleep with little boys, we have no way to be certain that he’s not a pedophile.

God you’re dumb. Really, incredibly fucking stupid.

  16. Dennis says:

A conservative run media outlet in the UK totally makes up a story about Obama and American conservative hacks run with it….. –fafaroo

You might want to rephrase that, fafaroo, or maybe say it on another blog so as not to appear as blatantly hypocritical as it is.

This is one of the blogs that fell hard for the easily and quickly debunked Playboy story claiming Rick Santelli was bought and paid for by the VRWC bigshots.

  17. Dennis says:

Indeed, Dennis. Until we receive video that confirms that Obama does not sleep with little boys, we have no way to be certain that he’s not a pedophile.</i. Jaim

WTF, Jaim?? Why didn’t you loons question the story and get to the bottom of it that very day, instead of a whole f’ing week later. Not like you guys at all. Certainly not like Obama, either.

You’re the guy on here bragging about how tough these guys and any blow at Obama will be met with a blow twice as hard as the one given; not the party of Shrum anymore. Well, that is O-fer
Six Bob Shrum if the story was never true.

I’m not defending it so much as I’m saying it wasn’t made up, unless you’re trying to tie SkyNews to Rush Limbaugh and Drudge and Sean Hannity.

    Good grief.

  18. fafaroo says:

You might want to rephrase that, fafaroo, or maybe say it on another blog so as not to appear as blatantly hypocritical as it is.

    Sure thing, Dennis!

Although there is no way you could rephrase any of this:

Why do we just now get this clarification a whole week later, fafaroo. And it is curious no video has been released, given the attention to this as a gaffe that has spawned a lot of criticism of Obama’s use of the teleprompter.

High asshatery? You think for one moment the far-left loons on the lib blogs wouldn’t be laughing and carrying on if SkyNews had reported the same story if Bush had done it instead of Obama?
And if there had been no video released no one would be questioning that?

So as not to appear like a complete moran. It simply is what it is.

  19. fafaroo says:

I’m not defending it so much as I’m saying it wasn’t made up, unless you’re trying to tie SkyNews to Rush Limbaugh and Drudge and Sean Hannity.

Dennis, if the story that Obama unwittingly “thanked himself” wasn’t made up, WTF fuck was it, in your assessment?

  20. fafaroo says:

I’m not defending it so much as I’m saying it wasn’t made up, unless you’re trying to tie SkyNews to Rush Limbaugh and Drudge and Sean Hannity.

And, yes, that’s exactly what I’m saying. It’s how the idiot conservative noise machine works: Hack news outlet makes up story that hack commentators run with and when the truth comes out it’s time to drag out the “liberal media” conspiracy.

  21. Dennis says:

It’s how the idiot conservative noise machine works: Hack news outlet makes up story that hack commentators run with and when the truth comes out it’s time to drag out the “liberal media” conspiracy. fafaroo

And the Playboy story, fafaroo. How are the circumstances there any different, other than it was so quickly debunked instead of a week later? Isn’t that EXACTLY the way the liberal noise machine work? Hack news outlet makes up story that hack commentators run with and when the truth comes out it’s time to drag out the “conservative media” conspiracy? The reporting may not have been all correct, but the underlying story was, as OW claimed?

Compare and contrast. Honestly this time, if you would.

  22. fafaroo says:

Compare and contrast. Honestly this time, if you would.

Right. Because I’ve been going on and on about how the Playboy story was “not made up” and only a conservative media conspiracy is keeping the truth from the American people.

Two things you have already asserted in this thread about the SkyNews story.

  23. Dennis says:

Fafaroo, I’m missing some great basketball right now, so signing off, but all I’m saying is Limbaugh didn’t make this story up, if it was made up. Unless Oliver is saying ‘Conservative’s made this story up’ and he’s implying SkyNews is who ‘Conservatives’ are, his blog title is patently false. And you are defending it.

  24. fafaroo says:

How are the circumstances there any different, other than it was so quickly debunked instead of a week later?

And this just kills me. So in your addled brain the more time it takes for a story to be definitively debunked is actually strong evidence that it might yet still be true:

Why do we just now get this clarification a whole week later, fafaroo. And it is curious no video has been released, given the attention to this as a gaffe that has spawned a lot of criticism of Obama’s use of the teleprompter.

    That’s just brilliant.

  25. fafaroo says:

Fafaroo, I’m missing some great basketball right now, so signing off, but all I’m saying is Limbaugh didn’t make this story up, if it was made up.. Oliver is saying ‘Conservative’s made this story up’ and he’s implying SkyNews is who ‘Conservatives’ are, his blog title is patently false. And you are defending it.

Oh man. So much brilliance here. SkyNews, a conservative media outlet, made the story up, Dennis. It was patently untrue that Obama “mistakenly” thanked himself. Indeed, Obama was ad libbing a joke. You can’t get much more conscious than that.

Then Limbaugh ran with it and, when confronted with the truth, retreated to the “The Liberal media is covering for Obama because we haven’t seen any video to prove it wasn’t true.”

The false story originated at a conservative media outlet and then a conservative commentator constructed an alternate reality in order to keep the lie alive.

And then you come here repeating the whole thing: “if it was made up.”

Please, Dennis. Sign off permanently. You’re obviously brain damaged. Seek help.

  26. Tyro says:

Dennis, Republicans suffer from the dual problems of being both not that bright as well as congenitally dishonest. The consequences of such weaknesses lead them to what you see Drudge and Rush doing, as well as what you’re doing.

Obama pwns you, again. Perhaps instead of throwing tantrums about teleprompters, as you’re wont to do, you should actually learn something about politics and policy, rather than being a talking-points-spouting dipshit.

  27. Michael Over Here says:

Dennis, at least Jay Tea has the class to admit when he has been thoroughly proven wrong.

  28. fafaroo says:

Dennis, at least Jay Tea has the class to admit when he has been thoroughly proven wrong.

    You’re kidding, right?

  29. Dennis says:

Dennis, at least Jay Tea has the class to admit when he has been thoroughly proven wrong. Michael Over Here

Sorry, MOH. I’ll admit when I’m wrong, just not when I’m not. What, eight guys trying in vain to prove me wrong and none of them have. I’m saying ‘Conservatives’ did not make this up. OW feels this great need to make everything a vast right wing conspiracy; his tin-foil hat and all. This just wasn’t one of them. Even the fact that Obama-Emmanuel-Gibbs-Carville-Axelrod would love to keep this Limbaugh thing going another round and this story would do that if proven true that Limbaugh was part of the conspiracy like you all seem to be claiming, why haven’t they done just that? Makes no sense at all if what you say is true. None.

The Playboy affair hyped by the far-left loons was far more egregious in this regard. Horrible reporting, made up bullshit with conspiracy connections so wild it rivals everything made up by the Kennedy-conspiracy nuts. I have seen no apologies by anyone, or any liberal blogger, who ran with this story as if it was totally true. Nor any commenter here who weighed in in their usual echo-chamber, ‘way to go Oliver’ fashion.

  30. Southern Quaker says:

And it is curious no video has been released, given the attention to this as a gaffe that has spawned a lot of criticism of Obama’s use of the teleprompter.

Oh, I don’t know, maybe because there were only print media in attendance? And the audio recording has been released, confirming that there was no gaffe, and that Obama was in fact taking the sting out of a gaffe by his Irish counterpart.

So yeah, a conservative media outlet essentially made this story up.

Dennis, I don’t say this lightly, but you are one dumb shit.

  31. ed says:

I’ll admit when I’m wrong, just not when I’m not.

Whom’ya gonna believe, Dittohead dumbass Dennis or your lyin’ eyes?

  32. Duros62 says:

if SkyNews had reported the same story if Bush had done it instead of Obama?

We learned, pretty early on, to accept it from Bush.

  33. Duros62 says:

Why didn’t you loons question the story and get to the bottom of it that very day, instead of a whole f’ing week later.

Because it’s stupid and a distraction. But that’s the whole point, isn’t it?

  34. Dennis says:

So yeah, a conservative media outlet essentially made this story up. Southern Quaker

Still not the point I made, S. Quaker. The title of the post is that Conservatives made it up. Not even the far-left hate blog Media Matters made that assertion.

Why is that so hard for you to understand? You keep coming back to the same tired rejoinder every one else does.

  35. Dennis says:

We learned, pretty early on, to accept it from Bush. Duros

And you’ve learned to fight tooth and nail on any gaffe Obama makes. No double standard from you, I know, Duros.

Because it’s stupid and a distraction. But that’s the whole point, isn’t it?

Stupid distractions are Team Obama’s tools of the trade. This one if as the one reporter says it is is completely the case, would’ve been a nice distraction this past week from the embarrassment of the AIG flap over the bonuses that they had to go through. Supposedly they thought it was too stupid to catch Limbaugh at a made-up lie, is what you’re saying? Get real, Duros. You can’t honestly mean that.

  36. Duros62 says:

Unless Oliver is saying ‘Conservative’s made this story up’ and he’s implying SkyNews is who ‘Conservatives’ are,

My, oh my, so much pearl-clutching and hyperventilating.

Perhaps Skynews is not the “conservatives” we refer to, but the reporter for Skynews may have left out a crucial part of the incident, or, more likely, Drudge and Rush left out a crucial part of the incident in order to try and make Obama look foolish.

Once again, it has not worked.

The audio is out now. No gaffe. Rush, Drudge, you and countless other right-wing partisan hacks have been proven wrong. Again.

Can we move on now? Nothing left to see here.

  37. Duros62 says:

Stupid distractions are Team Obama’s tools of the trade

So much projection for such a small mind.

  38. fafaroo says:

I’m saying ‘Conservatives’ did not make this up.

And yet, it’s not true. It originated in a conservative media and was pushed by conservative media and then, the actual truth was denied by conservative media. You haven’t offered any actual argument against any of these points.

In fact, you’ve joined in by suggesting that the false story may in fact yet be true.

You really can’t get much hackier than that.

  39. Dennis says:

You really can’t get much hackier than that. fafaroo

Fafaroo, you call me all sorts of names and descriptives to voice your displeasure, yet you keep coming back, no matter what.

Nothing hacky about that. It could be true that it happened exactly as this reporter just now recently discovered. I don’t know, I don’t have access to the video. Let’s see the video and then let’s talk. I’m still smarting from the Playboy article enough to trust liberal reporters just yet. And why didn’t Media Matters debunk this story a week ago. Not like them either to just let the conservative VRWC media take over and run with a bogus story like they did.

Sorry, this one leaves me wanting. Apparently you too.

  40. Jaim says:

Shorter Dennis: I’ve been proven wrong. I actually realize I’m wrong. But I remain, bed-wetter Dennis.

  41. Duros62 says:

I don’t know, I don’t have access to the video. Let’s see the video and then let’s talk.

Oh for the love of..one more time.

THERE IS NO VIDEO! IT WAS A MEDIA POOL. PRINT MEDIA ONLY!

There is AUDIO, in case your interested, that backs up what we have been saying for 2 fucking days. It did not happen the way Dru-sh says it did.

I’m still smarting from the Playboy article enough to trust liberal reporters just yet.

Like you read Playboy for the articles.

  42. Duros62 says:

In fact, you’ve joined in by suggesting that the false story may in fact yet be true.

“Fake but accurate.” Like the Borders bookstore thing. Or Obama’s birth records.

You need to lie down, Dense. I fear you may have pulled something.

  43. fafaroo says:

I don’t know, I don’t have access to the video. Let’s see the video and then let’s talk.

That’s so awesome, especially in light of this graph from the article linked to by Oliver:

I’ve exchanged emails with Englund and he confirmed this was the case and kindly supplied me with an audio file of the event that removes all doubt.

Of course, we can’t know for sure until we see the video.

The same goes for the Playboy story. Surely we can’t know for certain that the tea party rant was not part of an orchestrated right wing campaign until we see video of the major players not conspiring together.

In fact, Dennis, we can’t be sure you aren’t a sentient, right wing software program until we see live video you typing at your computer. Can you set that up somehow? Until then, we have no choice but to believe you are nothing but a tool, literally.

  44. Dennis says:

Like you read Playboy for the articles. Duros

I don’t think that one ever made it to print, Duros. In fact, the blog post was taken down I think about an hour or so after it first appeared.

Which was about 59 minutes after Oliver first hyped it as being a huge bust.

  45. Dennis says:

“Fake but accurate.” Dan Rather? Oliver Willis?

Like the Borders bookstore thing. My mistake for not realizing you were capable of recognizing satire.

Or Obama’s birth records. Not me, Sir.

  46. Dennis says:

Until then, we have no choice but to believe you are nothing but a tool, literally. fafaroo

Again, fafaroo, something about me compels you to keep coming back.

Why the heck didn’t the geniuses at Media Matters bust this one wide open and get that damn audio tape a week ago? They must’ve just assumed it was true, no?

I think all you guys did too.

    Strange.

  47. Duros62 says:

My mistake for not realizing you were capable of recognizing satire.

    Right back atcha, sparky.

I didn’t realize it WAS satire, since you said you saw it firsthand.

  48. Duros62 says:

Why the heck didn’t the geniuses at Media Matters bust this one wide open and get that damn audio tape a week ago? They must’ve just assumed it was true, no?

That’s a good point. Why didn’t Drudge? Why didn’t Rush?

They must’ve just assumed it was true, no?

  49. fafaroo says:

Again, fafaroo, something about me compels you to keep coming back … I think all you guys did too.

Uh, ya. And why is it that you keep responding to me? You gonna come back next with “I’m rubber and you’re glue”?

For the record, no. I didn’t automatically believe that it was a “gaffe.” In large part because, as described, it sounded so obviously like a joke.

Maybe we should cross file this one under “Conservatives have no sense of humor” as well as “Conservatives are total buffoons.”

  50. Southern Quaker says:

Dennis, you are a child. You remind me of students who will argue completely ridiculous creationist talking-points, and never back down no matter how much scientific evidence is provided to the contrary.

You will never believe the evidence, you will never accept the facts, because they contradict your world view and you are not open-minded enough to make rational decisions based on the evidence.

  51. Dennis says:

Thanks, Southern Quaker, I was thinking the exact same thing about most of you all, and you said it better and more eloquently than I ever could’ve.

    h/t to you.

  52. Dennis says:

That’s a good point. Why didn’t Drudge? Why didn’t Rush?

They must’ve just assumed it was true, no? Duros

I’ve pretty much maintained that, Duros, that Drudge and Rush just assumed the SkyNews story was true, no evidence to the contrary. But Oliver is saying those guys made it up, and that they are the Conservatives who did so. I said at the start that they were only guilty of not sourcing the story better, for not getting the audio tape. That same audio tape that Media Matters never bothered to get, either.

We always seem to come full circle here and you end up agreeing with my main contention, even though you never seem to realize it when you do. I’m glad I have you here, Duros. You serve a useful purpose. It’s Friday Happy Hour time here and if you were close by I’d buy you a beer just to show you my appreciation.

  53. Duros62 says:

Yeah, right. It’s not you, it’s everybody else. That’s rational.

  54. fafaroo says:

Thanks, Southern Quaker, I was thinking the exact same thing about most of you all, and you said it better and more eloquently than I ever could’ve.

In other words, “I’m rubber and you’re glue.”

    You never disappoint, Dennis.

  55. Duros62 says:

We always seem to come full circle here and you end up agreeing with my main contention, even though you never seem to realize it when you do.

Perhaps because you take the long way around.

It’s Friday Happy Hour time here and if you were close by I’d buy you a beer just to show you my appreciation.

Don’t know if you’re yanking me or not, but right back atcha.

  56. Dennis says:

Uh, ya. And why is it that you keep responding to me? fafa

I try my best to respond to all my fan mail, fafaroo.

Speaking of which, I sent a Bloomberg message to Jake DeSantis, the AIG guy that wrote a great letter of resignation to his CEO, Ed Liddy, and got a nice response from him today.

This guy. Dear A.I.G., I Quit

    Made my day.

  57. Michael Over Here says:

    You’re kidding, right?

Well, he did that one time. And then proceeded to prove me wrong immediately after that. So I’ll take this back.

    Dennis is a tool though.

  58. Duros62 says:

got a nice response from him today.

Something you’d like to share with the class?

  59. Dennis says:

Don’t know if you’re yanking me or not, but right back atcha.

Ahh, I’d buy all you knuckleheads a beer, truth be known.

  60. Parthenon says:

Needless to say at this point, for anything about any politician that sounds too stupid to be true (or too good to be true, if they play for the other team), one’s default position ought to be extreme skepticism until it’s corroborated.

  61. Dennis says:

Something you’d like to share with the class? Duros

Just the usual pleasantries; mutual admiration. That sort of thing.

Other than Jaim, my first correspondence with a real, live, modern day John Galt. Only one with principles.

  62. Duros62 says:

Just the usual pleasantries; mutual admiration. That sort of thing.

You’re just gonna walk right into the propeller again, aren’t you?

  63. Dennis says:

It’s the only thing I know. It’s my comfort zone, Duros.

  64. Duros62 says:

my first correspondence with a real, live, modern day John Galt.

Waidasecond. How did you correspond with him? Certainly not through the US Postal service or – god forbid – the Socialist Interweb! So, what, smoke signals? Carrier pigeon?

  65. Dennis says:

    So, a douchebag. OW

    How so, Oh Cynical One?

  66. Dennis says:

So, what, smoke signals? Carrier pigeon? Duros

We’re both on Bloomberg. It has a message system.

  67. Michael Over Here says:

We’re both on Bloomberg. It has a message system.

    Ha! How Galty.

  68. Duros62 says:

I’m so glad irony has been resurrected.

  69. Dennis says:

    So, a douchebag. OW

I guess, presumably kids coming out of college are all supposed to aspire to be little Ezra Kleins and Amanda Terkels so as not to be Laffer Curve douchebags.

  70. Repack Rider says:

Dennis: Just the usual pleasantries; mutual admiration. That sort of thing.

Kinda begs the question, what did you find to admire about each other?

  71. Jaim says:

Dennis, please go upstairs from the basement and ask your mommy to change your diaper.

  72. Dennis says:

Jaim- Seriously dude, parents of your students might look on this blog and see what an immature little punk you are and think all Americans are just like you.

If I were you, I’d try to act like a grown-up on here. You’re like stupid teenagers and early twenty-somethings who screw up their careers for stupid things they put on Facebook.

Come to think of it, I’m actually glad you chose to teach in Korea instead of here in the States.

  73. Duros62 says:

so as not to be Laffer Curve douchebags.

    HAHA! HOW WOULD YOU KNOW?!

  74. Dennis says:

HAHA! HOW WOULD YOU KNOW?! Duros

Actually, I never knew what Oliver meant when he said that about kids coming out of college, Duros. That’s how the stupid thing started in the first place. I just said kids don’t consider the tenets of the Laffer Curve when they decide to go into business; that that’s probably the furthest thing from their mind at that time. Since then, it’s been kinda fun watching it morph as S. Strategy and Mister ed keep obsess over it.

  75. C.S.Strowbridge says:

Dennis the Bigot: “Since then, it’s been kinda fun watching it morph as S. Strategy and Mister ed keep obsess over it.”

Translation: “Waahhhhhh! People are asking me questions I don’t want to answer. And when I refuse to answer them, they just ask the questions again. Waaaahhhhhhhhh!”

By the way, Duros just slyly asked you what the tenets of the Laffer Curve were. Are you going to add him to the list of people ’stalking’ you?

  76. Dennis says:

Why are you so obsessed with me, Stalker Strowbridge? What is it about me you are attracted to?

I’m like the movie you can’t watch too many times. You keep coming back. When you’re not online you’re itching to get back here. It’s like I own you.

You need some serious psychotherapy, dude. I really don’t want to feel responsible for what damage you’re doing to yourself.

  77. Duros62 says:

    Ohhhhh, Frank.

  78. mambochicken23 says:

    Frank? My buddy? Where?!

  79. Duros62 says:

    Frank? My buddy? Where?!

Dennis v. Stowbridge just reminded me of Frank v. factcheck.

    Good times.

  80. mambochicken23 says:

Ah yes… wondrous times those were. Oh, how I miss Frank. He was a whole ‘nother brand of crazy idiot.

  81. C.S.Strowbridge says:

Dennis the Bigot: “Why are you so obsessed with me, Stalker Strowbridge?”

    Translation: “Waaahhhhhhh!”

By the way, I was in this thread first, so you are stalking me.

“You need some serious psychotherapy, dude. I really don’t want to feel responsible for what damage you’re doing to yourself.”

Yes, I might hurt myself laughing at your racist ass.

You are a fucking joke. A fucking joke that refuses to saying anything of relevance, but won’t shut up.

The only reason I’m talking to you, is because you are embarrassing yourself in an entertaining way.

Please, do something you’ve done countless times before. It will surely work this time!
