Newsbusters Does History

They would really like for Parade Magazine (you know, that esteemed academic journal) to write a version of history blaming Robert Mugabe on Jimmy Carter. Now, my guess is that the guys at Newsbusters are too dishnonest to acknowledge America’s complicit role in propping up any number of bad guys for our own benefit. Or, are they just too stupid to know that Saddam Hussein didn’t just magically have the firepower to go to war with Iran, or that Osama Bin Laden and the Mujahideen didn’t just have guns that materialized out of nowhere to fight the Soviets in Afghanistan?

Iranian Navy trained at the same boot camp and schools I attended. One year later my ship was in the Persian Gulf and Iran was the enemy.

You want to know the difference between Carter foreign policy and every other President’s foreign policy?

Carter supported the bad guys who hated us and acted in ways that were against our interests.

Every other President of either party supported the bad guys who were willing to be friends with us, and used US foreign policy to further US interests.

As the great Daniel Patrick Moynihan said, Carter couldn’t tell our friends from our enemies, and had adopted our enemies’ view of the world.

Mr. Moynihan did not hide his jealousy of Carter’s Nobel Peace Prize well, but I’m sure you knew that.

At least until they didn’t want to be friends with us anymore.

    Anybody remember Noriega?
