Obama’s “Media Honeymoon”

I don’t know how anyone can watch something like this then say that the media is even remotely liberal.

But they will. And with a straight face.

“the heroin that is government slavery”? WTF does that mean?

  2. Duros62 says:

Oh GOD, make it stop! The stoopid, it burns!

  3. Haplo9 says:

Huh? How do you consider this evidence of.. anything? So Media Matters can glom together a bunch of soundbites, most from Fox (big surprise there), of people who are critical of or don’t like Obama. Yay. I’m sure it would be terribly difficult to make another of media types fawning over Obama. Chris Matthews and his tingling leg could be the leadoff soundbite. Why you think this should convince anyone of anything is beyond me.

  4. Duros62 says:

Go for it, Haplo. Make it so.

Make sure you give us the Youtube link when you’re done.

  5. Haplo9 says:

Lets say that I could make a video that would be the opposite of the video Oliver’s employer made. What would that convince you of Duros? What assertion would such a video even be providing evidence for?

I will say one thing that the video convinces me of – that Media Matters is one of the many groups classified as 501c3 that are so obviously cheerleading on one political side as to make a mockery of the classification.

  6. Parthenon says:

Haplo, that you see nothing wrong with calling the president a socialist is interesting to me.

  7. Parthenon says:

I mean, when Bush came into office, do you want to make me a video of that many mainstream media personalities calling him a fascist?

  8. Haplo9 says:

    >I mean, when Bush came into office, do you want to make me a video of that many mainstream media personalities calling him a fascist?

Er.. I guess? Why not, if thats what you think he is/was? It certainly wasn’t an unusual charge thrown his way.

    >Haplo, that you see nothing wrong with calling the president a socialist is interesting to me.

I don’t recall saying that I agreed with every single bit of commentary in that video, especially given that most of the comments have no context around them – some may not need them, but some may. The viewer has no way of knowing. (Further, by the way, enhancing the uselessness of the video.) That said, are you saying that calling the president a socialist should be beyond the pale of commentary? If so, why? I’d say some of the dumber policies push pretty far left in general, but if a commenter seriously thinks that Obama is a socialist, then I’d think that in order to be fair, Bush would have to be a socialist too, or at least a socialist-lite. Neither are friends of a smaller, less powerful government.

  9. Duros62 says:

    I dunno. False equivalence, maybe?

  10. Duros62 says:

…especially given that most of the comments have no context around them…

Oh, come on. How much context does Glen Beck need?

That said, are you saying that calling the president a socialist should be beyond the pale of commentary? If so, why?

Because it is untrue and libelous.

  11. Dennis says:

Because it is untrue and libelous. Duros62

God, what I wouldn’t give to witness that trial, Duros.

Guessing you’re thinking the calls of Bush being a Nazi as true enough not to be libelous.

  12. Parthenon says:

Western political spectrum, since the French Revolution:

    Communist…………..USleft..USright…………..Fascist

Now how about we all just knock it off?

  13. Haplo9 says:

    >Because it is untrue and libelous.

Yeah, I’m sure you were mightily defending Bush when he was being called a fascist and a Nazi. Like it or not, people like to use charged words to describe their political opponents, even if it requires a .. modified definition of the word to be plausible. Most people calling Bush a fascist probably meant that as a euphemism for authoritarian, rather than he was likely to start opening concentration camps. (Well, maybe some crazies actually thought that, i recall the commentary getting a bit frenzied at points.) Likewise, people calling Obama a socialist probably mean that he’s got some statist, “goverment can solve all problems” tendencies, rather than he’s likely to assert state ownership of the means of production.

In historical context, the use of fascist or socialist labels isn’t particularly fair to either man. Not surprisingly, both sides like to do it. Go figure.

  14. that Media Matters is one of the many groups classified as 501c3 that are so obviously cheerleading on one political side as to make a mockery of the classification
So, I’m sure you’re similarly outraged over Heritage Foundation’s support of conservative policies, or CATO or AEI…

  15. Duros62 says:

Guessing you’re thinking the calls of Bush being a Nazi as true enough not to be libelous.

    Man, just shut up already.

Yeah, I’m sure you were mightily defending Bush when he was being called a fascist and a Nazi.

How many mainstream media luminaries did that, exactly? Ever since the election, Obama has been called everything from Stalin to Che Guevara to Chairman Mao on the talking head box. Aside from far-left Kos-saks, how many times did Nazi Facsist show up on cabel or network news?

I’m just sick of your shit.

2 days ago, you guys were going to testify on Jay’s behalf in a libel suit against Stowbridge’s insult. But callignt he President a Commie is fine with you.

    Enough, already.

  16. Duros62 says:

Likewise, people calling Obama a socialist probably mean that he’s got some statist, “goverment can solve all problems” tendencies, rather than he’s likely to assert state ownership of the means of production.

But assholes like Beck and Mannity don’t say that, do they? They are only interested in scaring the weak and feeble.

  17. Haplo9 says:

    >So, I’m sure you’re similarly outraged over Heritage Foundation’s support of conservative policies, or CATO or AEI…

You’ll notice that I said “many” groups, and I didn’t specify a ideological leaning. So yes, I’d say throw out the whole concept of non-profits that aren’t political – because its obvious that it isn’t enforced or followed.

  18. Haplo9 says:

    >How many mainstream media luminaries did that, exactly?

Oh, I dunno, how about Keith Olbermann:

    http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/?q=node/31044

Or does he not count as a luminary? Sure is funny watching you clutch at your pearls. “Why are some people so mean to the president? This is a totally new thing that has no precedent! Except for the last 8 years!”

  19. Parthenon says:

Hey you found one! Only about a dozen more to go!

  20. Duros62 says:

Or does he not count as a luminary?

Nope, he’s a common tater, just like the rest. Does he market in hyperbole? Sure.

    What else you got?

  21. Duros62 says:

    Yeah, that’s what I thought.
