The wide margin of victory came despite sharp Republican attacks calling the legislation a ploy to paper over Obama administration missteps.
Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, said the bill was “a political circus” to divert attention from why the administration and congressional Democrats had not done more to block the bonuses.
However, although a number of Republicans first cast “no” votes, the political appeal of the legislation apparently won the day. In the closing moments of the roll call there was a heavy GOP migration from the “no” column to the “yes” side before the final vote was called.
Weird for them. They’re usually a hive mind.
“But Obama added, “The buck stops with me.”
God-DAMN that’s refreshing to hear.

Apparently 104,000 bucks stopped with Obama last year, all from AIG.
When Obama was asked by a reporter if would return the donation, he dodged the question.
I guess the bucks stop at his desk and they stay there too.
Apparently 104,000 bucks stopped with Obama last year, all from AIG.

Obama was asked by a reporter if would return the donation,
And all in one big ol’ donation?

Dennis: Apparently 104,000 bucks stopped with Obama last year, all from AIG.
Really? One company was able to make a $104 k donation? Sure you got your facts right there, Dennis?
Certainly haven’t got them complete. Wouldn’t want to mention the donations AIG execs made to McCain, would you?
So, we’ve now established that punitive taxation is just when the people being taxed are getting a lot of money, not performing to the level expected, and unpopular.
With that in mind I would like to know who I need to petition to get a 75% tax on wages greater than $100,000 for members of Congress.
SFC sez I would like to know who I need to petition to get a 75% tax on wages greater than $100,000 for members of Congress.
Congress sets the tax rates, so that’s who you would have to petition.
Good luck with that.
I’m sure they’d be more than happy to hold themselves to the same standard they’re holding everyone whom they’ve been subpoenaing lately. It would be hypocritical for them to be so handsomely rewarded for their sub par performance. They wouldn’t do that.
Oliver: Politico?
No, an even less reputable source.
