Rush Runs The Right, Thank God

Follow him over the cliff, lemmings.

Over the past few weeks, the White House has been casting right-wing talk show host Rush Limbaugh as the head of the Republican Party, and based on a new CBS News poll, it appears they may be onto something: According to the poll, Limbaugh’s favorable rating stands at just 19 percent, a full 43 points lower than President Obama’s.

I’m sure that 19% maps perfectly on the dead-enders who supported Bush all the way to the end, as well as the Tea Bag party attendees. It’s the same element.

I bet that 19% correlates pretty well with people who call themselves “politically incorrect” but are really racist and sexist assholes. Or (publicly) deny that Rush would ever say something like “take that bone out of your nose” or any other wildly racist or sexist or otherwise offensive dogshit Limbaugh’s spewed over the years. The modern Republican party (i.e., since Nixon’s Southern Strategy): so charming.

To paraphrase Troy McClure, Rush will continue on the air as long as he makes a profit.

  3. Wilbur says:

That 19% probably correlates pretty well with those who can afford to spend three hours in the middle of the work day listening to AM radio. Most people with a life are automatically exculded.

  4. mike in dc says:

Well, I guess the key thing here is that they seem to lack both the capacity to expand their political base, and the understanding that they have to in order to avoid a future of political irrelevance.

Nah. I’m sure a significant part of that 19% don’t listen to Rush regularly or for more than a commute-time span of his program. I’m sure they’ve formed their opinions without actually having spent much time with what they are opining on, as blowhards tend to do. (“Seen the movie? Of course not. Why would I do that? I just know it should be banned, that’s all.”)

  6. Parthenon says:

Yeah, he was blathering this morning about how Speaker Pelosi’s approval rating is at 18%.

To that I guess I’d reply that Nancy Pelosi represents approximately .25% of the population. One wonders what her approval rating is in her district…

  7. SaveFarris says:

One’s a radio broadcaster whose job is to get people listening, even if they listen because they disagree and want to be outraged.

One’s a politician who depends on people liking him enough to A) donate to his campaign and B) win votes.

Let’s measure them using the same metric!!!

No matter how many times Oliver quotes polls, it still won’t change the fact that Rush isn’t actually running for anything. And it also won’t change the fact that our President is comparing himself to a daytime radio talk show host.

  8. ed says:

And yet, SaveFarris, both are leaders of their respective political parties, which I’m pretty sure was a key part of O-Town’s point.

Oh, and SaveFarris, is Rush Limbaugh a racist asshole?

  9. Terrier says:

Rush is SaveFarts’ god – a god who protects the poor, as in the poor ol’ boys at AIG that the Obama’s army of Zulu warriors are unfairly targeting. Anybody need a light for your torch?

  10. Grumpymann says:

    SaveFarris,
An improper apology is not the same thing as false equivalence.

    Peace Be With You

  11. Jay says:

Yeah, he was blathering this morning about how Speaker Pelosi’s approval rating is at 18%.

She is the Speaker of the House.

    He’s a talk show host.

It’s mind-boggling that you’re even comparing the two (or like Farris says, that President Obama feels threatened by him) and more so that people think a public opinion poll about a radio talk show host is even relevant!

  12. MrGreyGhost says:

Rush Limbaugh = best available excuse to take the focus off those in charge of getting us out of this economic mess we’re in.

  13. Grumpymann says:

    Sorry apology = Analogy

  14. jr says:

“Rush represents our values”-godtards who suddenly heart 3 divorces, drug use and Dominican sex tours

  15. Duros62 says:

Yeah, he was blathering this morning about how Speaker Pelosi’s approval rating is at 18%.

She is the Speaker of the House.

    He’s a talk show host.

It’s mind-boggling that you’re even comparing the two

Who’s comparing? Sounds like Rushie was doing the comparing, saying he was more popular than the SOTH?

  16. Quaker in a Basement says:

our President is comparing himself to a daytime radio talk show host.

    When did he do that?

  17. Repack Rider says:

19% of the population can make you rich on the radio, but it won’t get you elected dogcatcher. Limbaugh has never actually accomplished anything that wasn’t just talk, and he lacks the courage to stand up for his empty talk against anyone who disagrees with him, so we will never have to worry about him disgracing an elected office.

Farris, if an influential Democrat had a drug problem that had left permanent physical damage, three failed marriages, had gone on sex tours with a year’s supply of someone else’s Viagra, and had committed a few felonies, would the GOP make an issue of it?

Of course not. It’s just being, you know, human.

  18. GLV says:

    Wait, Oliver is the president?

  19. SpiderJ says:

No matter how many times Oliver quotes polls, it still won’t change the fact that Rush isn’t actually running for anything.

You know, I try not to use the word “stupid” on other people very often, but I’ll use it in this context…surely you can’t be so stupid as to believe that just because Rush isn’t “running for anything” that it means he lacks the ability to influence the Republican agenda?

If “running for anything” were a metric of power and importance, then members of the Republican Party–people who actually did run for something–who criticized him wouldn’t be apologizing the next day.

He’s the member of the party with (a) the most visibility and (b) the loudest bullhorn. I’d add that he also seems to be the only one with any original ideas, even if those ideas are only about the best way to make fun of, oh, let’s see what the wheel says today. Rape victims? Crying babies? One-eyed puppies?

  20. In 2006 and 2008 conservatives – ones posting comments on this site – regularly said that Bush’s approval rating didn’t matter because, after all, he couldn’t run for a third time. I mean, why would the approval of the sitting president have any connection to his party’s fortunes? So, there’s a pattern of stupidity from the right on issues like this.
