OMG President Obama Is Doing Too Much! He’s Losing Focus!

president obama

That’s the current winger talking point. There are two reasons they’re pushing this.

1. Obama is getting stuff done. He’s getting legislation through, cleaning up the failed Bush policies and personnel infecting our government, and using his mandate to make America more progressive. In other words, moving the country forward. Conservatives hate that.

2. After 8 years of a President who couldn’t eat a pretzel let alone walk and chew gum, they assume that every other Chief Executive is equally deficient and as such will cause damage. Barack Obama is able to walk, chew gum, negotiate an arms treaty, cut down on carbon emissions, hunt terrorists, play with his kids, and hug his wife. At the same time. We are dealing with something new, yet old here: A competent American president.

If he worked and spoke solely on the economy, they’d probably bag on him for being single-minded and ignoring the peripherals.

    Weak, even for Reynolds.

  2. C.S.Strowbridge says:

This is clearly concern trolling. Nothing more.

  3. Jibreel Riley says:

dude, even you are jumping the gun and I’m one of the “wingers” … the guy is still human

  4. zenyenta says:

We really have been conditioned in the past eight years to expect little in the way of ability of any kind from our president. It’s a shame, but we’ll get over it once we’re used to having a smart and competent president again.

  5. Repack Rider says:

Obama will take his next vacation in about eight years. Bush used up the allotment for the next three presidents.

  6. Jaim says:

He needs to be clearing more brush on his fake ranch!

  7. Quaker in a Basement says:

If Republicans think Mr. Obama is “doing too much,” perhaps they could lighten his load a bit by allowing the Senate to conduct business instead of dawdling around with their constant foot dragging.

  8. Duros62 says:

    Here’s a no-brainer (bad pun)

WASHINGTON – The Obama administration on Saturday permanently banned the slaughter of cows too sick or weak to stand on their own, seeking to further minimize the chance that mad cow disease could enter the food supply.

  9. Adam Herman says:

A bit early to declare Obama a competent President, just as it’s early to declare him a failure.

Obama has no track record except for oh, 60 days as President. His policies have had zero time to take effect. The only thing we have to go on is his personnel choices. Good choices, not so good vetting. So the record is mixed so far.

And this blog’s intelligence continues to decline. As someone who has been reading it for eight years, it’s kinda disappointing. I know you can do much better than analyzing politics like it’s a sporting event(Democrats yay! Republicans boo hiss! Obama rulz!)

In fact, I know you can do better because you’re much more sober and balanced in your sports analysis.

    Apparently that didn’t stop you.

  11. C.S.Strowbridge says:

“And this blog’s intelligence continues to decline.”

Did you see the ‘Virgin’ posts? If that doesn’t convince you about the intelligence level of this Blog, nothing will.

  12. Duros62 says:

His policies have had zero time to take effect.

    Not true.

  13. Well except I was writing the same way 2, 4, 5, 6 years ago. This will never ever be Boring Policy Blog. EVER.

  14. Sean D. Martin says:

    Michael Barone:

None of the issues addressed in the Obama budget was in any way a cause of the financial crisis. We did not have a housing bubble collapse because we don’t have a national health insurance program. We don’t have toxic waste clogging the balance sheets of the banks and other financial institutions because of carbon emissions. The Bush tax cuts were not a proximate cause of the giant public debt being run up under the Toxic Assets Relief Program or the 2009 stimulus package.

Yes! We must only be able to deal with one issue in as simplistic a way as possible at a time! Y’know, just like the last guy!

  15. Lonnie Mask says:

Sean D. Martin, A characteristic of conservatives is that they cannot see how the whole works together. They can understand someone getting cancer, someone not being able to pay their mortgage, and someone losing their house, but they cannot see how getting cancer might cause someone not to be able to pay their mortgage and lose their house because of it.

Glenn reminds me of Skippy from Family Ties

  17. Adam Herman says:

    Hey, policy is exciting!

But no, this doesn’t have to be boring policy blog. But it also shouldn’t be a mindless cheerleading blog. Declaring Obama to be competent at this point is like declaring a rookie running back to be a Pro Bowler after an 60 yard, 4.2 per rush average in his first game.

And to the poster above, where did I declare Obama a failure?

  18. Duros62 says:

Declaring Obama to be competent at this point is like declaring a rookie…

Compared to the last resident of 1600 Penn?

Yeah, I’m willing to declare Obama competent.

  19. Sean D. Martin says:

Adam Herman: Declaring Obama to be competent at this point is like declaring a rookie running back to be a Pro Bowler after an 60 yard, 4.2 per rush average in his first game.

False comparison. Declaring someone to be competent isn’t the same as declaring them to be a superstar.

  20. texmexgal says:

How can all of you think Obama is so competent. He hasn’t accomplished a single thing yet except add to our national debt astronomically. My great-grandchildren will still be paying for it if this country survives that long, which I am beginning to doubt.
