On the one hand, Michael Steele is quite useless as the leader of the RNC, and therefore I support him.
On the other hand, firing him so soon after he was hired would send a terrible message to the GOP faithful, and therefore I support firing him.
Firing him and replacing him with the runner up, the guy who belonged to a whites only country club, would be AWESOME. That would solidify the GOP as the party of Racism for a long, long time.
Watching the Republican party disintegrate is a beautiful thing for most Americans, no doubt. But the icing on the cake is this — we’ve got all these Republican disasters where either outcome is a net gain for reality-based Democrats.
Keep Steele? Fine! You’ve got an incompetent, spineless, “hip-hop” guy as head of the RNC. Fire him? You prove the point that Grand Comrade Limbaugh is the de facto leader of the party, a racist, drug-addicted, possible pedophile. And Grand Comrade Limbaugh shall brook no dissent or criticism, ever. Nobody outside of older white males will vote Republican ever again.
I mean c’mon, even during the dark days of Michael Dukakis the Dems were never this deep in shit. They were bad, but they weren’t actively trying to destroy themselves, even if they were incompetent on a number of issues.
And they certainly weren’t this entertaining.
The dark days of Michael Dukakis had the Democrats controlling both houses in Congress.
The last time the Democrats were in as big of a minority as the Republicans are now was back during the days of Herbert Hoover. (Although given how spineless the Demcrats acted over most of Bush, Jr.’s reign, they were effectively this bad.)
And wow. In both cases there were massive, massive, FUCKING MASSIVE economic slumps brought on by Conservative ideology.
