I read this morning that Chuck Norris is fomenting revolution in Texas.

I'd say he could have it, except that I have some very good friends down there.

I don't get it, Mr. Tea. What are you implying here? You're not saying the video is "fake but accurate" are you?

I'm just trying to understand your understanding of how the military works.

Every time I read something like this, it makes me realize:
the feeling of rage and disgust that seeing #43 produced in me is now being felt by _these people_ upon seeing #44.

It is to regular schadenfreude what a fine cognac is to grape juice.

the vast majority of the military takes their oaths very seriously. They also have a tradition best summed up as “salute the uniform.”

Whoa, JT, does this mean that LIKE ME, you are a veteran? Or does it mean that you read that somewhere, because I never heard "salute the uniform" when I was in the Army.

Why do we even need a conspiracy theory? The time between Obama's announcement is really short; I'm fairly convinced that Obama's focus isn't on foreign affairs right now (to say his domestic troubles are pressing is an understatement.) I suspect that, rather than simply ignoring foreign affairs, he's giving Hillary Clinton a lot of leeway. (I'm sure that that theory fills you with dismay, Jay, but leaving the personalities and politicos aside it's not a bad management strategy.)

But I digress. To suggest that the army has an alternative motive for troop deployment - a complex affair that has a fair amount of inertia - is the result of conspiracy puts the onus on the theorizer. What evidence is there that this is a conspiracy? Cui bono? Does Iraq need a Stryker Brigade really badly right now? (Not if the media reports are correct). Are troop rotations changing enough to cause some extra holes in logistics in Iraq? (Dunno.) Is Iraq being used as a training ground for Afghanistan? (Not a bad idea.)

Me, I'm still wrestling with the fact that a friend of mine's deploying to Afghanistan. She's a SeeBee. I can't figure out which ship she'll be deploying to...

Strowbridge, I understand you're used to being contradicted, but I wasn't this time. I was expanding on what you said. OF COURSE the military is going to be respectful and loyal to the president. That's the nature of our military -- they take very serious oaths, and take those oaths very seriously.

But that doesn't mean they have to like or respect the individual who holds the office. That's what I was explaining -- in the military, you salute the uniform, not the individual.

And Greyhawk's explanation for the Stryker Shuffle Obama is pulling makes a lot of sense. You got a better one?

J.G.Thayer: "Oh, and Strowbridge: the vast majority of the military takes their oaths very seriously. They also have a tradition best summed up as 'salute the uniform.'"

Yeah. And where in my posts did I say otherwise? Where in my post did I even hint otherwise?

"For example, they recently caught Obama playing political games with troop deployments..."

Yes, I especially like the part where he says he doesn't like conspiracy theories, and then engages in one.

Yeah, those Mudville guys do some damned fine work. For example, they recently caught Obama playing political games with troop deployments (www.mudvillegazette.com/031615.html). And their reporting on the Abu Ghraib mess was superb.

Kudos indeed.

To say the military doesn't support the president in an insult to the military.
