When you’re in that situation you’re not looking at apartments with gates and covered parking. You’re looking at those revamped motels which dot the landscapes on the fringes of urban centers. Believe me, you can find one for $400-$500 a month cash. It will be a bedroom or two, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a small living area which can function as a second or third bedroom. Believe it or not Duros, not everyone lives the privileged life. And there are people and businesses which cater to those who are less fortunate than you or I.

I’m glad that the Obama Administration is going to follow the Bush Administration’s policy there. However, I’m not the one who opposed the Military Commission Act which is part of the reason they can be held there and not allowed to contest their detention in court. Then-Senator Obama did. He’s the one not being consistent. I didn’t support the massive deficits ran by the Republican Congress from 2001-2006, and I didn’t like the massive deficits ran by the Democratic Congress in 2007 and 2008. And I really don’t like the more than a trillion dollar deficit that the Democratic Congress will allow starting in 2009.

I’m sorry, I must have missed the post where Mr. Willis called the President to task for his continuing to sanction extraordinary rendition. Or increasing the deficit to $1,300,000,000,000.00. Or continuing indefinite detentions. Or that people held in US detention centers aren’t allowed to challenge their detention in court. Or committing 10-15 brigades of troops in Iraq. Or refusing to honor his campaign promises for a more open and honest government.

The situation might be different but the standard is not. So you’re saying that Clarke gave the Bush Administration the info it needed to do something to prevent 9-11. Fine. President Obama knew what was going on in the economy since September 2008. He took office in January 2009. Passed the stimulus bill in February 2009. I don’t see why it’s so unreasonable to start holding the Obama Administration fully accountable for the result of its actions in May 2009.

To put it bluntly, if a grown-ass person cannot figure out some way, some how, to scrape together the few hundred dollars needed to afford a Greyhound bus for their family to a place where they found work, they don’t deserve it and I don’t understand why I should be required to give them money if they’re not going to do everything they can to help themselves first.

Just as a thought exercise, for less than $1,000 I could move my family across the country and rent a 2 bed/1 bath apartment for a month. In that month I could also find a job which will keep us in that apartment for the forseeable future. Is it my dream job? No. Is it my dream home? No. Is it better than not having a home and being out on the street? Yes.

I don’t understand why this concept of being self-reliant and accountable for your own actions is so foreign to you.
