[Greetings Atrios readers, make sure you check out the home page and handy news aggregator]
Redstate joins the chorus on the right assuming that liberal attacks on Bobby Jindal are due to us being scared of him.
Bobby Jindal doesn’t scare anyone. Nor for that matter do Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter or the rest of the mental midgets that form the core of the conservative/Republican axis.
It’s not as if we’ve never been scared of the right. For 8 years we feared what George W. Bush and Dick Cheney would do to America, and sadly the damage done was even worse than most of us (including myself) feared.
But now? I have no doubt that the right will one day again be on top, there will likely be more than a few Republican presidents within my lifetime. But right now you’ve got idiots like Sarah Palin and cartoons like Bobby Jindal being touted as serious national candidates. I’m too young to remember it firsthand, but I’ve got to feel that liberals today feel like LBJ did in 1964 or Ronald Reagan felt in 1984: You can’t be serious.
So we mock, not the way we mocked Bush out of fear of what he would and did do, but out of that most natural of reasons: Conservatives and republicans, right now in 2009 are the most mockable of public figures. We’ve just been through the first election in what could turn out to be a fundamental shift in voting attitudes in America. Conservatives, outside of the mainstream media who pretends as if they’re still at the 60%+ strength of 2003-4, are on the outs looking in, tilting at a president with a 60-70% approval rating. And in light of that scenario, they have appointed a gaggle of circus clowns as their standard-bearers.
There’s nothing sinister, we don’t think based on your activities that you’re going to get competent overnight, by all indications the right thinks that the same old tax cut b.s. pushed by the same old characters and some buffoonish new ones is going to roll back the recent tide.
How could you not laugh?
’)
It’s true. I’ve been mocking conservatives for months now in my blog. It helps me not be sad that any group of people can fall so quickly with no awareness of how you got there r any idea how you’ll get out.
Jindal is the same as Mitt and the rest of the repubs. They will say anything to get through “today’s sale” then blame “libruhl mediuh” when they get caught lying a day later.
The Sarah Palin example has hard empirical evidence to back it up. We were not making fun of her because we were scared of her, and she helped elect Obama as president.
But please, Republicans, believe we only mock what we are scared of. It will make it so much easier to manipulate you into making bad decisions.
For many on the right, it’s not so much that tax cuts will save the economy. They WOULD help more than the TRILLIONS upon TRILLIONS of dollars being thrown at it, which will inherently be followed up by tax increases (SEE: Carter). But most importantly, tax cuts require a reduction in the size, and waste, of government while giving MORE freedom – more liberty – to the people who EARN their money.
And since you’ve already sidetracked in your own mind, let me steer you back on course. Just because “The One” says he’s not going to RAISE my taxes A) doesn’t make it true but B) ALSO doesn’t make for a TAX CUT. And apparently no one has noticed yet that the joke that is the $13/week “tax cut” written into the stimulus ISN’T A TAX CUT AT ALL. The tax tables were not changed to reflect the new income, so we will all receive a BILL at the end of the year for that $13/wk.
Back on track, it’s not just the rich who earn their money. It’s all the way down to – yes, even though I don’t want to legitimize it – the illegal alien roofing houses. The problem here is as you raise taxes (which must be done if we’re going to try to pay all of this record spending down), you DON’T hurt the illegal alien or the tax cheat (most of them are in office now anyway). You hurt the “middle class” who doesn’t MAKE enough to pay the additional tax. You hurt the “working class” which is ALREADY looking at their checks wondering where the other 40% is going.
New government programs, new socialist programs, aren’t going to help the working class. They help the lowest class. They help illegals. Enter: Class Warfare. You’ve heard this talked about on those right-wing nutzo TV shows, but you’ve never really understood it. “Why would the rich hate the poor? Isn’t that un-christianlike?”
It’s not about hate. We’re not the emotional rollercoasters you guys love so much. It’s about wanting to CHOOSE to whom and where our money goes. We want to be able to give to the church, knowing who that money helps. We want to be able to give to the Red Cross, knowing it will at least be better spent than at “United Way.” We want to be able to LEGITIMATELY help people less fortunate. The government won’t do that.
The government will provide healthcare to the poor… it already does. Don’t expect much better, the only difference is they will force YOU to take on the same health benefits they are currently giving to the poor. (You should write this down so I can send you a “told you so” in a couple of years)
The government will provide retirement funds… just like it already does. The only difference will be that you won’t be ALLOWED to have your own retirement to go with it. How much do you look forward to THAT?
The government will provide free education. How well is that working out for you? Funny how the politicians that say they reformed public schools refuse to let their kids ATTEND those schools! (“The One” included. Oh, sorry, that’s disrespectful isn’t it? President “The One”)
The new budget even reduces the deduction for charitable giving. What do you think that is for? To try to starve out these charitable organizations! The government should be the only charity in this country! At least that’s how President “The One” sees it.
Oh yeah, socialists in office who want to prevent me from using my money for good while at the same time helping people smoke pot fear-free. You guys picked a real winner this time.
Even businessmen have come to the conclusion that lower tax rates are meaningless if there isn’t any revenue to tax in the first place.
Republicans: selling the cart to those who don’t even have a stable for that horse they don’t own.
The blog I read where they were saying Obama got in due to Mexicans, Canadians and dead people made me see the size of the delusionment
If this doesn’t scare you, nothing will.
If a sub-7000 Dow is supposed to be the scariest thing in the world, then just wait. This economy, based on “wealth” rather than production, has two or three thousand more points to drop before this starts to stop sliding. It’s not just a lack of faith in banks that’s propelling us downwards. What’s happening is best described using language not fit for public discourse.
The Market, our Pimp, is giving us Whores a much-needed Bitchslap because we spent the Pimp’s Money on shoes, lipstick, and hair extensions. What we should have done was invest our Whore earnings on education and getting out of debt or on stopping being Whores because we thought we needed everything right away (also known as Ending the Addiction.) Now, Market Pimp is looking around at other Whores, we are getting too old for this, and the Whoring is starting to show. Soon we’re going to be standing vacant-eyed and hungry on the sidewalk wondering why no one wants a Hummer.
Ah… another liberal unburdened by the ability to recognize that the nature of the world is as his master says.
Things change.
Oliver, your talent for thinking long term is exceeded only by every other meager skill you possess. Including your exceedingly short memory.
Nemo me impune lacessit
Things change.
You mean like how Karl Rove told everyone that we had elected a permanent Republican majority in 2004?
If this doesn’t scare you, nothing will.
Yo! Oliver made is clear
So why would you even bring that up?
It’s a time honored tactic for the particularly inept breed of Flame Warrior know as the Tireless Responder, for whom “winning” means being the last person in the thread after everyone else has quit in disgust at his blockheadedness:
1) TR says something idiotic.
2) You respond with “that’s idiotic.”
3) TR does a silly little victory dance: “You’re mocking me, therefore you’re afraid of me! That must mean I’m right!”
Which is, of course, absurd. But the point is not to make sense. The real point is +1 post count, which to the Tireless Responder means he’s still winning, even though he hasn’t really said anything advancing his argument for pages and pages. The RedState idiots really believe that so long as they’re saying SOMETHING, no matter how stupid or irrelevant, they’re winning.
fear is for people with no sense of humor.
http://bloggerinterrupted.com/2009/02/video-not-one-tea-party-protestor-thinks-president-obama-was-born-in-the-us
Good post, Oliver.
It’s amazing to me that the supposed leaders of the Republican party have chosen Palin to counter Clinton, Jindal to counter Obama and Michael Steele to counter… Tim Kaine? in an epic miscalculation of the voters of this country. It doesn’t matter if you’re black, female or “exotic” if your GOP message is exactly the same as it’s been for the last 30 years.
And I LOVE that Mitch McConnell was dissing Richard Reich and Paul Krugman as uncool at CPAC… MITCH “Incredible Mr. Limpet” McCONNELL?! Seriously?
No fear here.
The blog I read where they were saying Obama got in due to Mexicans, Canadians and dead people made me see the size of the delusionment
In case you didn’t know (since it was a while back), “Canadian” is the new code word for black people now that the n-word is no longer socially acceptable.
No, I’m not kidding.
And they wonder why we mock.
Atrios referred to Jindal as “Gilligan.”
If you watched his rebuttal or saw his goofy delivery, carriage, and gait during the 60 Minutes profile, you realize how apt that designation is.
And, no, we’re not afraid of Gilligan.
Isn’t it mind-blowing though?
If Karl Rove (aka GWB’s brain) was really the genius he was touted to be, they could have insured a permanent Republican majority for at least a generation after 9-11.
Those people went through the largest surplus of political capital in my lifetime (50 years) and turned it into record deficits (a special talent of theirs, it seems).
If I were a Republican, I’d be pissed…
I have honestly never seen a blog where the owner and the regular commenters felt the need to profess their bravery so much.
Or not bravery so much as their lack of fear.
“Here us now and believe us later, we are not afraid. Seriously, We. Aren’t. Afraid!”
“You may think we are, but we aren’t. Trust us.”
The reason I had to point this out is because when we issue the slightest bit of criticism, you numbskulls dance around and yell that we’re scared. I’m answering a charge.
I can’t help but remember that line from Beetlejuice: “I’ve seen the Exorcist 67 times, and it keeps getting FUNNIER EVERYTIME I SEE IT!”
That’s how I feel about the GOP.
But yeah, they’re entirely scary as well. I, as a somewhat functioning adult, cannot believe that grown people who can get themselves out of bed and put their shoes on the correct feet actually think and live like this.
Palin. Limbaugh. Jindal.
Fail. Fail. Fail.
I guess you have Romney waiting in the wings, Republicans. But let’s remember why he got torpedoed — pro-choice, MA governor who raised taxes.
Oh, but then there’s — who? Cantor? Plain dumb. Giuliani? Too ethnic for wing-nutter tastes. Thompson? Too busy napping.
Yeah. Republicans are screwed.
And let’s remember that the Mormon-hysteria backlash against Romney had more to do with nutty Christian cons than it did with libs, who were happy to see a pro-choice, lib state, “socialized medicine” governor tell us why he should be president and the heir to St. Reagan (who raised taxes in his second term).
Jindal had a shot, IMO, until he totally embarrassed himself and his party forever after Obama’s strong speech. Pretty much embarrassed America.
Ya still got Joe the not-a-Plumber though. That dude’s got a hell of a future.
Stay strong, party of Karl Rove.
And ‘not afraid anymore’ is wholly incongruent with the DefCon 4 paranoia over Rick Santelli that liberal blogs are in a coniption fit over and can’t let go of.
If this doesn’t scare you, nothing will.
News flash, Farris. It doesn’t.
I’m more afraid of Pauly Shore than today’s crop of Republicans.
Oh, but then there’s — who? Cantor? Plain dumb. –Jaims
Says the man who admits he can’t get a job as a teacher in the US so he moves to Korea. A lot of help you’re doing us over there, Jaims. Keep telling us how insignificant we are.

Eric Cantor: Education: BA George Washington University, 1985; JD College of William & Mary, 1988; MS Columbia University, 1989
Really, you guys haven’t been able to tag the racist name to him yet, so I guess the usual ‘dumb’ line will have to suffice for now.
I have honestly never seen a blog where the owner and the regular commenters felt the need to profess their bravery so much.
So Dennis. The last eight years. You were in a coma right?
haha, stupid rightards always complain about their money going where they don’t want it to, but never ever gripe about the fact that most of your taxes are going to the military industrial axis of Cheney. Money for killing furriners? That’s always fine for a rightard….money for eduction…no way!
The world is relieved the lunatics are back in the asylum, not running it anymore.
…but I’ve got to feel that liberals today feel like LBJ did in 1964 or Ronald Reagan felt in 1984: You can’t be serious.
Point taken, but that’s awful unfair to both Barry Goldwater and Walter Mondale who, while not popular in their day, were also not fools. Today’s Republicans are simply fools, and rather simple-minded ones at that. When the face of your party is Joe the Plumber, it’s time to take a long, hard look at yourselves and reassess where, exactly, the moorings to reality were cast off and why you’re adrift in a sea of silliness.
Jindal had a shot, IMO, until he totally embarrassed himself and his party forever after Obama’s strong speech.
That’s eerily similar to all the criticism of the epic bomb of an opening speech given at the 1988 DNC.
Mr. Willis, I’d like you to consider another point of view. You are not laughing at a suicide. You are watching a murder. The people you are talking about, Jindal, Palin, Limbaugh are the decoys, who are left out to distract our attention. The republican Party is being killed off as soon as possible after the election, so that evidence can be hidden. If the Republican party exists in an organised and coherent fashion when the American public gets the full measure of what they have done, there will be an investigation and prosecution the likes of which we have never seen. Now is the time for the masters and backers of the Republican and Conservative juntas to get out with their ill-gotten gains, while the getting is good. But it is not very expensive to leave a distraction in place, to misdirect the public. Notice how the new faces of the Republicans are people who have had nothing, actually to do with what the republicans have done over the last eight years (for a start). They are giving us a cheap political side show while every scrap of record which might be useful in finding out what happened, in its legal or financial or moral or military aspects, is buried in a shallow grave. You can’t prosecute people for being dumb. But you can try to evade responsibility with a false insanity defense. That is essentially what they are doing.
Actually, right now I’m not afraid of Republicans at all. I’m afraid of Blue Dogs.
I’m a little scared of Jindal. I’m fucking terrified that this fucking exorcist “Government is UBER-EEEEVIL” reactionary governs anything larger than his bathroom. I suppose in that sense, I’m a little scared of what would happen if he was president. Roughly the same way I’m scared of a meteor hitting my car.
Sorry for the aggressive language, cons. There are some conservatives I can stomach, but Mr. Jindal ain’t one of them.
I got one word for you Mr. Willis
WOLVERINES!!!
That’s eerily similar to all the criticism of the epic bomb of an opening speech given at the 1988 DNC.
Bobby Jindal has a way to go before he can sniff Bill Clinton’s jock strap.
If Karl Rove (aka GWB’s brain) was really the genius he was touted to be, they could have insured a permanent Republican majority for at least a generation after 9-11.
Ain’t that the truth. I think Rove’s failure was his idea that you could build an enduring Republican majority on 51% victories while actively trying to alienate the other 49%, Personally, I think that if his front-man had been someone other than Bush, who could be manipulated into driving the Republican car off a policy cliff in his stubbornness, he might have had a better shot at what he wanted.
Maybe someone honest could please explain this to me then, if it is not, at least on some sort of subconscious lever, out of fear that drives this obsessive need to talk about the people you guys do so much:
Jane Hamsher and digby and the need to ‘take out’ Rush Limbaugh.
“The fact that the Democrats aren’t going after Rush hammer and tongs is largely due to their failure to see themselves as an opposition party involved in an ideological war. The view from inside the Beltway Bubble seems to obscure this plain and simple truth that appears quite obvious to those of us outside of it. The Republicans understand it, and that’s why they’ve been so successful at controlling the agenda as a minority party.
Rush is a huge part of why they’re always on the ropes, losing these battles of phony outrage and spin. It’s time to take him out.“
2 years ago – the time of that link – Limbaugh was a threat. A nutjob working in concert with a horrible president to push bad policy that hurt people. Now? He’s a junkie on the radio leading a shrinking element of the populace against a popular and competent commander-in-chief.
And as I’ve told you a million times now, we would care far less about Rush if the GOP and the MSM didn’t regularly elevate him to the level of rational leader of significance.
Dennis.
Fear?
No.
Disgust?
Yes.
Hate?
More than likely.
Do you mean to tell me that you can not tell the difference between those emotions?
What I wonder about is why is it that the con “mind” always goes to the most negative things when ascribed to “others”?
To dennis:
I know, don’t feed the trolls.
But, what does Cantor’s degrees have to do with anything? IIRC, we were just led for 8 years by a Yale schooled POTUS with an MBA. I somehow didn’t quite get the sense that he was very bright.
There will be more embarrassing moments for Jindal, so don’t worry.
Repukes pick their candidates based on their superficial attributes, not sunstance. They have been politically inbred for so long that they’ve eliminated anyone who’s philosophy requires a change in the status quo or the use of cognitive thought in solving problems. That leaves them with only the basics of human thought: eat, sleep, reproduce (maybe), fight, flight and a distinctive hate of all things not Repukblican.
So, I’m not worried. I’ll just be cool and kick back while I watch them implode.
What dose scare me is that there are a large number of cons that do not understand that Rush (And his ilk) are not only lairs bent of destroying intelligent conversation in this country.
But are just full of shit.
i.e. This.
http://thinkprogress.org/2009/03/02/limbaugh-constitution-ignorance/
Bobby Jindal has a way to go before he can sniff Bill Clinton’s jock strap.
For one, he’s not a portly intern with a humidor delusion.
(rimshot)
Jindal and Palin have this in common: they gave bad public addresses.
Unlike Obama.
They also both have outstanding managerial/executive records of real accomplishment.
Unlike Obama.
One side is all style, no substance. The other is poor style, serious substance.
“Who cares what he’s done or can do — he’s so clean and articulate! Let’s vote for him!”
Oh, and back to the subject at hand… when will the Great Liberal Walkback from this epic conspiracy begin? Or has it already?
J.
And as I’ve told you a million times now, we would care far less about Rush if the GOP and the MSM didn’t regularly elevate him to the level of rational leader of significance. OW
But, really, Oliver, not all taht much has changed. He still ‘has to be taken out’. Joe the Plumber ‘had to be taken out’. Rick Santelli ‘had to be taken out’. There’s an obsessive need by liberal blogs far beyond the usual excuses given that the MSM gives them too much attention and that it’s fun to mock them.
Liberal blogs’ approach to them has not changed at all, nor their reporting. There’s not one iota of difference between now and six months ago, nor two years ago, nor four years ago. It’s still, “they have to be taken out”.
It’s like the great Joe Paterno tells his running backs when they come to school, ‘When you score a touchdown, act like you’ve been there before’. It’s very much like for most of you, you haven’t been there before.
Jay Tea, are you suggesting that Jindal’s call for cutting taxes on the rich is “substance”?
Listen, fella, there’s more to the theater than repetition.
Listen, fella, there’s more to the theater than repetition.
Listen, fella, there’s more to the theater than repetition.
Sarah Palin actually reads quite well off a prompter. Jindahl was far too downtalking, a bit like Al Gore. And like Gore, Jindahl is smart. Palin is about as intellectually able as Bush. And who can’t run Alaska when oil is going for $150/barrel? She’s not doing so well now. Jindahl hasn’t been there long enough to judge.
Some people have the skills and some don’t. Experience makes little difference. Obama is a leader. I haven’t seen much evidence of that in the current crop of Republicans.
Psst. Guys.
Oliver didn’t pay his 5 pounds, so he’s not entitled to the full ten minute argument.
I think we have to go to the right-wing internet to find people wiling to argue with someone about the way HE HIMSELF feels.
“No you don’t!”
And you’ve been automatically contradicting people since 1996?
“1994!”
Interesting.
“No it isn’t!”
They also both have outstanding managerial/executive records of real accomplishment.
Palin’s only accomplishment was paying 10 times as much for a stadium than she had to.
Tell me, what are Palin and Jindal the Exorcist’s accomplishments?
“Palin. Limbaugh. Jindal.”
Add to that promising list Joe the Whatever This Week, Jonathan Krohn, and Newt Gingrich.
AKA, the 2012 Ow, I Hit Myself Again ticket.
Just remember the republican rules of debate and you’ll be okay:
If you mock me you must fear me.
If you hate me it’s because you know I’m right.
If you argue without facts you are emotional.
If I argue without facts it’s common sense.
The source of your facts is always suspect.
My theory and conjecture are superior to your suspect facts.
The absence of a conservative bias is evidence of a liberal bias.
If you respond to my arguments it is because you are angry or afraid.
If I respond to your arguments it is to point out that you are angry or afraid.
The same thing was advanced by wingnuts during the election on fivethirtyeight.com.
Ridiculing Palin (and the wildly optimistic predictions of her success by the resident wingnuts) merely proved that Democrats were afraid of Palin.
“Libs are scared” was a constant refrain from wingnuts whenever the latest idiocy from the Right was ridiculed. Oddly, those issues that did scare “libs” (e.g. Palin’s redneck mobs) were dismissed by the wingnuts.
The wingnuts really, really want to believe that we fear their awesome ability to make stuff up or completely do a 180 when the decreed talking point changes. The Republicans have no credibilty outside of their base, but they have so little exposure to reality in their liitle bubble world that they cannot see how the rest of the country views them.
Just heard Dumbaugh twisting in the wind about Steele calling him an entertainer. I think that the Dems should now pull back and IGNORE the blow hards; the mission has been accomplished; the GOP has exposed all of its fissures. They are in a state of crisis. Step back and watch the festival of lights.
It’s like the great Joe Paterno tells his running backs when they come to school, ‘When you score a touchdown, act like you’ve been there before’. It’s very much like for most of you, you haven’t been there before.
The question is whether the great Joe Paterno ever told his running backs: “When you’re leading in points, you can totally afford to go easy on the other teams.”
Oliver, you are correct — I’m not scared of the rightwing Entertainment Corps anymore.
But I am terrified of the mess they have created.
Oy.

Montresor says: Nemo me impune lacessit
amok92 says: WOLVERINES!!!
Monty may be more articulate than Amok but they’re both “unburdened by the ability to recognize the nature and source of their own impotence. Monty, no doubt, imagines himself as King Harry on St. Crispin’s Day, while Amok watches Red Dawn and dreams of finally getting the girl.
That’s why CPAC looked like a science fiction convention, it was packed with stunted adults, fawning over other cynical, needy adults and one little boy acting all grown up.

Therefore he terrifies me.
Danger respect.
A three-year old with a .357 is dangerous, but not worthy of respect, which pretty much describes the Bush administration.
Hey Rick at 8:33 am:
Speaking of self-parody, you might want to try debating with some understanding of your opposition, instead of preaching at caricatures. You’ll always miss the mark when your target audience is yourself.
Hey Rick at 8:33 am:

Whoohoo, I’ve got an echo!
The most popular conservative leaders have never scared me. Hannity/Limbaugh/Coulter are proven wrong time and again and are a real pleasure to mock. It’s the smart conservatives, the ones that wingnuts don’t understand and ignore could be dangerous.
Well, they still scare the hell out of me! And furthermore…
AAAAIIIIEEEE!!!
Sorry. Y’know how coffee makers make that belching sound when they’re almost done brewing? Thought my kitchen got nuked for a second there.
Well, back to do battle on the hill.
Hannity/Limbaugh/Coulter are proven wrong time and again
I’ve come to believe actually being factually correct isn’t the point for that group. The appeal for fans, I think, isn’t a pragmatic ‘what works’ policy, but rather the advocacy of a principle. Not necessarily dependent on whether that principle has proven to be effective.
A three-year old with a .357 is dangerous, but not worthy of respect, which pretty much describes the Bush administration.
If anybody with an artist’s hand wants to throw this on a t-shirt, I’d buy one.
Zython:
Palin got a pipeline stalled for decades under way, AND on far more favorable terms than previous administrations had even considered.
She also took on — and took out — corrupt members of her own party, taking down a Republican attorney general and sitting governor.
Jindal, as Louisiana Secretary of Health and Hospitals, turned around the huge agency from a $400-million deficit to a $220-million surplus. He also oversaw the Hurricane Gustav evacuation, showing how his predecessor, Kathleen Blanco (D-incompetent), should have done things.
Obama… well, he served on a bunch of boards but didn’t even notice who was on the boards with him, voted present a lot, wrote a couple of books, and counseled groups like ACORN.
J.
Yes, Palin is so clearly impressive – what with the book banning, flirtations with secession and using Alaska as her personal travel service, its no wonder she was elected overwhelmingly to the vice presidency. We had this argument, you lost in November.
Jay Tea:
Keep preaching buddy. Talk up the stars of the party, but I’m a little upset that you didn’t mention Joe the Plumber — our next vice-president. After us dittoheads get our way and America goes to hell and the government fails and anarchy comes, should we appoint Rush “King” or “Dictator for Life”?
She’s also sooo fiscally responsible, too.
Once a grifter, always a grifter.
Let’s see… has to pay back the taxes, but no interest or penalty. She’s OBVIOUSLY unqualified to be in Obama’s cabinet.
“Book banning?” “Flirtations with secession?” “Travel service?” Sheesh, Oliver, did you miss those being debunked?
She asked the librarian her feelings on removing books. Never followed up on it. The “list” being passed around of books she allegedly wanted banned included books published long after she left office.
“Flirtations with secession?” Her husband belonged to the party, and she greeted them on their convention. Never endorsed them, never belonged.
“Travel?” She sold the governor’s plane, preferring more suitable aircraft — if you didn’t notice, Alaska’s the biggest state by far — it’s about 2.2 Texases.
So, come on… now cite some examples of Obama’s great accomplishments that put these two to shame. Tell us how great his work to ban handguns went. Tell us how much improved Chicago’s schools were thanks to him.
J.
Dennis: “Says the man who admits he can’t get a job as a teacher in the US so he moves to Korea.”
So says the man who can’t count past two, but still thinks his opinions matter.
What are you smoking? W was considered a joke once. And then overnight he was my governor. Thing was, we had (other people’s) money to burn in those days. The next “joke” will be along the lines of that flabby gasbag who lead Germany out of the great depression.
Americans have learned SHIT from the last 8 to 28 years. It’s not the Coulters we have to fear, it’s their mindless minions. Mostly at my office I hear this mess being blamed on Nancy Pelosi. With the ineffectual ditherings of Obama and Geithner, there will be more than enough ammunition to rearm the GOP for Armageddon.
Obama… well, he served on a bunch of boards but didn’t even notice who was on the boards with him, voted present a lot, wrote a couple of books, and counseled groups like ACORN.
Well, he DID graduate first in his class at Harvard Law and was elected president of the Law Review. Palin on the other hand, needed five colleges in six years to get a degree in sportscasting.
Then he got elected to the Senate, something that neither Jindal nor Palin has done.
And after that Obama became President of the United States, which most people who are not Republicans consider an accomplishment, especially since he is a Black man with a Muslim name and no one had ever heard of him four years ago. That puts him light-years ahead of Palin and Jindal in the all-important “election winning” category.
I swear, in eight years you are STILL going to ask what he has ever accomplished, even though it seems clear that this exceptional man can accomplish pretty nearly anything he puts his mind to.
now cite some examples of Obama’s great accomplishments that put these two to shame
Obama signs $787bn stimulus plan
But then, Sarah Palin hunts for moose!!!!!!
Repack, “winning elections” doesn’t count as an actual accomplishment. They are not an end, but a means to an end — what did he do with those electoral wins?
The same with colleges — in Obama and Palin’s cases, that was over half their lives ago.
Oliver, keep that number handy. It’s likely gonna come back to haunt all of us.
And did he actually read it before signing it? Lord knows most of the people who voted for it didn’t…
J.
I can’t believe some of the right wing ‘tards are bringing up Palin as an example of someone we are scared of.
She was an unmitigated disaster. She helped cost McCain the election. We have empirical evidence that shows she is not a threat.
THERE IS NO REASON FOR USE TO BE SCARED OF HER BECAUSE SHE LOST!
If you don’t understand that, you have zero functioning braincells.
Right, Strowbridge, because there are no comebacks in politics.
Except Richard Nixon.
And Bill Clinton.
And George Bush.
And Howard Dean.
And Ronald Reagan.
And Joe Biden.
Losing one election is rarely the kiss of death for politicians. Clinton was pronounced politically dead at least twice before he won the White House. Same for Nixon.
Stick to your strong point, Strowbridge. See if you can find a way to bring “southern strategy” into this discussion.
J.
She was an unmitigated disaster.
Yes, but they’re spinning this to themselves as McCain being too centrist, that the solution is to put her or somebody MORE conservative than McCain at the top of the ticket.
So says the man who can’t count past two, but still thinks his opinions matter. –Southern Strategy Strowbridge
Jesus Christ, Southern Strategy, you respond to every one of them.
They must matter to you.
J.G.Thayer: “Right, Strowbridge, because there are no comebacks in politics.
Except Richard Nixon.
And Bill Clinton.
And George Bush.
And Howard Dean.
And Ronald Reagan.
And Joe Biden.”
Two questions…
1.) You are comparing Palin to Reagan?
2.) Really?
And as a bonus…
3.) Did any of these people embarrass themselves as much as Palin did?
Howard Dean’s Scream was nothing compared to Palin claiming she read every newspaper and magazine. Or claiming she had foriegn policy experience because you can see a Russian island from an island in Alaska. Not being able to name a single supreme court decision she disagreed with (even though her state just suffered a setback in the highest court). The “Thanks, but no thanks” lie.
Do you want me to continue?
She has shown no talent for politics, or any design to learn.
If she runs in 2012, she will lose. I doubt she would survive to Super Tuesday. But if she does, I will be cheering her every victory. She’s a idiot, and practically everyone outside of Conservative Republicans knows that.
If the GOP lose in 2010 and lose again in 2012, they will lose a Generation, just like the Democrats lost a generation to the Republicans after Reagan and Bush Sr.
Southern Strategy thinks he’s Nostradamus.
Me: “She was an unmitigated disaster.”
Parthenon says: “Yes, but they’re spinning this to themselves as McCain being too centrist, that the solution is to put her or somebody MORE conservative than McCain at the top of the ticket.”
I hate that so much. I know I should love it, because it will make them irrelevant for a long time, which will help get the progressive agenda passed and normalized. But I can’t stand watching someone making the same mistake over and over again and not learning.
They can’t be this stupid, can they?
Southern Strategy thinks he’s Nostradamus.
More accurate than you.
Yes, Southern Strategy Idiot Savant, I am comparing Palin and Jindal to Reagan. Because I remember the Reagan era — and his detractors. One of the kindest terms was “amiable dunce.” I once heard someone say that their favorite thing about him was the bullet hole. The only difference between then and now is the asshole haters (yes, like you) now have a louder megaphone to use.
On the other hand, there are plenty of politicians who tanked after losing. Michael Dukakis. Walter Mondale. Dan Quayle. George McGovern. Eugene McCarthy. (Hmm… a lot of Democrats on this list. Wonder if that means anything?) Old whatshisname, the dipshit who took on Joe Lieberman. Lamont, I think it was.
Give it up, Strowbridge. When you can’t bring up your standard “southern strategy,” you’re even more hopeless than usual.
J.
Please nominate Sarah Palin for president. Please.
Way, way too early, Oliver. I know that Obama is in Perpetual Campaign Mode, which means that you are, too, but some of us wouldn’t mind letting things develop for a while before dealing with another presidential election.
Especially those of us in New Hampshire.
J.
Dennis: “Jesus Christ, Southern Strategy, you respond to every one of them.”
No I don’t.
But I can’t tell if you are lying, or mere an idiot.
“Give it up, Strowbridge. When you can’t bring up your standard ’southern strategy,’ you’re even more hopeless than usual.”
Want to make a bet? I’m willing to put my predictive powers against yours. Are you up for it?
“Jesus Christ, Southern Strategy, you respond to every one of them.”
No I don’t.
BRILLIANT homage to Monty Python’s Argument Clinic, Southern Strategy! I doff my hat to you!
J.
Jay Tea Plumber said “Because I remember the Reagan era — and his detractors.”
I was one of them … we used to beat them up out back and in the libraries.
Just to be clear, we used to beat up the Canadian Reaganites, not their detractors. Wouldn’t want to be misunderstood. That would be terrible.
Oliver, don’t try to educate the trollies. If they won’t listen to David Frum — David FRUM! — warning them of the horrific damage they’re doing to their movement by letting Limbaugh lead them, they deserve the punishment they’re going to get.
Jay writes “’winning elections’” doesn’t count as an actual accomplishment”
This just. Wha. /facepalm
Jay, in all sincerity — you win the internets, buddy. Putting scare quotes around winning elections. Wow.
According to Jay, Barack Obama has never accomplished anything. Jesus H. Mother-Loving Christ, you are as dumb as a bag of hammers.
When you got that taxpayer subsidized medical treatment, it’s a shame they took out your brain by accident.
Dennis: “Jesus Christ, Southern Strategy, you respond to every one of them.”
Me: “No I don’t.”
Jay Tea says: “BRILLIANT homage to Monty Python’s Argument Clinic, Southern Strategy! I doff my hat to you!”
Good lord. Are you going to have your own ‘Can’t count past two’ moment?
Give you a little hint. No matter how many times I respond to him, if I don’t respond to all of them, then he is wrong.
That’s reality. If you can’t handle it, fuck off.
Here’s a snippet of a hypothetical debate from last year:
“For all three of you: cite one thing you’ve done in your public career that has helped people. You first, Governor Palin.”
“I pushed through a natural-gas pipeline that had been bottled up for decades — when I started, the plan was for the state to pay the operators to handle it. Now they’re paying the state for the right to operate it. This not only created many good jobs, but improved the state’s economy and helped bring more energy to the continental United States.”
“Thank you, Governor Palin. You, Governor Jindal?”
“I took over my state’s Department of Health and Hospitals while it was running a huge deficit. I turned that around in a surplus, making sure the people of Louisiana could continue to receive quality health care for years to come.”
“Thank you, Governor Jindal. And you, Senator Obama?”
“I got elected to the Illinois State Senate and the United States Senate.”
“Um… do you have anything else to add, Senator?”
“I also served on a board to improve Chicago’s schools and spent a bunch of money, but please don’t ask me who else was on the board, or what we actually achieved.”
“OK, Senator…”
“Oh, and I also spent a lot of time on a board that is working to ban handguns entirely. We also spent a lot of money and bought some really good articles about how gun control isn’t really unconstitutional, but we didn’t get a single law changed.”
“Thank you, Senator.”
J.
“I pushed through a natural-gas pipeline that had been bottled up for decades…”
Yeah, I’m sure that’s what she would say, but the facts dont’ agree with her. Construction hadn’t started at the time of your hypothetical conversation. In fact, I don’t know if it has started by now. Last I heard, there was still a lot of negotiations left to happen.
And here’s a little tidbit for you…
“Under a different set of rules four years earlier, TransCanada had offered to build the pipeline without a state subsidy; under Palin, the company could receive a maximum $500 million.”
cbc.ca/world/story/2008/10/25/palin-transcanada.html
It’s not much of an accomplishment, once you look into the details.
“winning elections” doesn’t count as an actual accomplishment. They are not an end, but a means to an end — what did he do with those electoral wins?
The same with colleges — in Obama and Palin’s cases, that was over half their lives ago.
Ah ha.
So you’re saying that recent events or accomplishments are not relevant. And past events or accomplishments are not relevant.
But whatever William Ayres did when Obama was 8 years old somehow is.
No, Duros, “what Ayers did when Obama was 8″ is not the point. What Ayers is still proud about, what he has done since then, is the important part. He says he didn’t do enough — like bombing judge’s homes in the middle of the night — back then.
Oh, and Oliver, pretty much everyone has walked back from this story. Playboy’s buried the original article. You wanna retract it any time soon?
J.
Damn, that last part is on the wrong thread…
J.
Me: “It’s not much of an accomplishment, once you look into the details.”
No comment, Mr. Thayer?
It’s interesting how parents no longer dream of having a child become president. Because ya know, it’s really no big deal. Not like making up stories about flood relief or spending tax-payers’ money on junkets. That’s the American dream right there.
Southern Strategy, the pipeline was completely stalled. Goveror Murkowski had put together a deal with the big oil companies that was going nowhere. They said they wanted massive subsidies to build the pipeline. Then, as soon as Palin got the deal with TransCanada, they suddenly found a way to do it on their own, without subsidies — amazing what a little competition and the free market will do.
An imperfect deal is still better than no deal — and an imperfect deal that prompts competition is even better.
J.
J.G.Thayer: “Southern Strategy, the pipeline was completely stalled. Goveror Murkowski had put together a deal with the big oil companies that was going nowhere. They said they wanted massive subsidies to build the pipeline.”
TransCanada offered to do it all on their own. Now they could get as much as $500 million in subsidies.
So you are fucking wrong on this point.
“Then, as soon as Palin got the deal with TransCanada, they suddenly found a way to do it on their own, without subsidies — amazing what a little competition and the free market will do.”
Five companies put up bids, four were rejected on technicalities. TransCanada was the only bid that was considered, and TransCanada was the only company that had business and political ties to Sarah Palin.
So you are fucking wrong on this point.
“An imperfect deal is still better than no deal — and an imperfect deal that prompts competition is even better.”
There is no fucking deal! There is no fucking deal, and now the oil companies have better leverage in their part of the negotiations.
So you are fucking wrong on this point.
That’s strike three for you.
Care to try again?
Me: “Care to try again?”
No response?
The reason that the republican representatives are so bad. Limited choice. They are basically the puppets of mega rich billionaires paid to say what ever they are told to say. The have to be sufficiently corrupt to sell their integrity, name and public image, plus and most importantly, they have to have a sufficiently criminal past that their controllers can blackmail them to ensure their obedience. Certainly not all of them but you should easily be able to pick out the most obvious ones by the lies that not only tell but repeat even when the truth is pointed out to them. The most amazing part the mega rich use these corrupt sock puppets so they can ruthlessly exploit the poor deceived fools that vote them. As for paid forum trolls from PR agencies, the most pathetic scum on the face of the planet who actually take pride in their lies, sharpen up your skills, your brand of B$ is getting way to obvious and boring.
