’)Do yourself a favor and check out the coverage of the last day of CPAC from Think Progress and Media Matters. I’ve gone to several of the Take Back America (now called America’s Future Now) events (and was a panelist at one), the progressive version of the CPAC conference, and while I might roll my eyes at some of the more colorful utopian members of the left, none of them are as insane as your average CPAC speaker or attendee. I’m not in the Karl Rove school of premature triumphalism, but as long as the conservative movement allows mental patients to be their intellectual and public faces, the longer our current era of progressive governance will continue.
To Rush, Ann, Huckaboom, Chuck Norris and the rest of you screwjobs on the behalf of everyone on the left side of the aisle I say: THANKS.
Oliver, I’m still recovering from Rush’s psychotic diatribe that the Conservative Nincompoop Network fawned over. If you put Rush in a blond wig, cha cha heels and a fishtail dress he would have sounded like Divine in Pink Flamingos. Yet, this ass is the leader of the Republic Party. Under his leadership the Republic Party is on the same self destructive path as the Whigs. He’s moving further and further to the right, creating a big hole that the Libertarians can fill very quickly. These Republic Party members are nothing more than a bunch of lemmings and they are getting ready to jump off the cliffs en masse. Amazing!

Go ahead, defend Rush Limbaugh as a pillar of society. What is it you like most about him? His drug addiction that led to deafness? His smuggling Viagra to the underage prostitution capital of the Third World? His money laundering? His racism? His cowardice? His unfamiliarity with truth? There was a comment on another blog that I’ll paraphrase: What’s awesome about watching the Republican party implode is that they _think_ Limbaugh and Joe not-a-Plumber and Coulter are so effective because they piss of liberals. Thing is, they don’t piss us off at all — they make us laugh to the point of tears at just how stupid and, more importantly, ineffective they are. Joe not-a-Plumber was a prop from a _failed_ campaign, as was Palin to a larger extent.
Pissing off liberals doesn’t win you elections. Just the opposite, it keeps you from re-tooling your message for the 21st century and clearing out the dead wood (Limbaugh, Coulter, etc.) that only appeals to 1/4 of the populace, and an aging populace at that.
