Per this blog, Joe Biden is a racist. Everyone here defends Joe Biden. Is everyone here defending that racist?

I believe the Rev. Jermiah Wright is a segregationist racist. Rev. Wright is defended here. Is everyone here defending that racist?

Barack Obama defended both those two people. One by enthusiastically attending his church for 20 years and a whole list of close associations and devotions, and the other by naming him his Vice Presidential running mate, an extremely high honor.

Is everyone here, including the blog-OWner, ‘pretty douchy’ for defending racists? Is Barack Obama ‘pretty douchy’ for defending racists?

My honest answer if anyone asked me would be ‘no’. But like everyone else in this country, we have different opinions on what is racist.

Sorry, Parthy, whether they are weak or not, we can debate that all day long. It’s not a debate that Keith Olbermann has displayed no instances of racism, sexism or bigotry.

The guy is a certifiable nutcase. You don’t have to read only conservative website to verify that either.

Well, you do spend an awful lot of your time defending racists. Which is pretty douchy to begin with.

As I suggested before, amigo, each is much more debatable than any of the above Gibson quotes. Guacamole is often served at parties and so quite likely had nothing to do with Gov. Richardson’s race, Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles is an actual (though likely little known on the east coast) restaurant chain, and the thunderdome comment regarding Sec. Clinton could easily be chalked up to poetic license, in the vein of rhetorically ‘taking somebody out behind the woodshed.’

You’re welcome to believe that I’m being more favorable to a guy on my team; I can’t prove you wrong. If you removed the party affiliations, I’d still believe calling a blog the ‘khmer rouge wing’ of a political party is far and away more heinous than mentioning guacamole in the sentence as a hispanic man.

(2) As to the practice squad bigotry, just two weeks before KO had made the Chicken N Waffles comment, he put Bill O’Reilly on his WPITW segment for his soul food comment he had made and said he was a ‘passive-aggressive racist’. I don’t know why you guys give this guy a pass because it’s not as bad as some. Or in OW’s case, deny it even exists.

Because each of your three examples is fairly weak, to be honest. I have no idea why Keith would call O’Reilly a passive-agressive racist. I think expressing surprise that nobody in an African-American-owned restaurant is screaming ‘em-effer, I want more iced tea’ is pretty darn aggressive, personally.

Two things there, Parth.

(1) OW said there were no instances of racism or bigotry. There are.

What I said is defending a racism is worse than racism and guess what that is what I meant. If I meant you are/were a racist I would have said that.

To take anything other from what I said is playing a cons game. I don’t do that.

Objectively, I think the cartoon was far and away worse than the iffy ‘chicken and waffles’ comment (or either of the other two KO comments, for that matter), given that RC&W is an actual restaurant chain and thus KO was not playing on a stereotype, and there IS an extensive history of racist depictions of Africans and African-Americans as primates.

But your larger point – that one is going to be slightly friendlier to those on one’s own side – holds water.

I might tend to agree, Parthy, but I haven’t walked even a mile in a Latino’s shoes.

You’re a fair-minded guy, Parthy, and I glad you responded to that. Different people have different interpretations for what classifies as racism. I’d have a very hard time believing that the folks here that are calling me a racist because I don’t think the cartoonist was trying to depict Barack Obama as a monkey would give Rush Limbaugh the same pass had he made the Chicken n Waffles comment as you are for KO. If Rush had made it and I defended it, Grumpy and others would be saying that defending racism is being racist.

I make no judgments about you and your interpretation about KO’s comment, but it’s not a newsflash to surmise that how much of a pass you give someone like Rush or keith Olbermann has a high correlation to whether or not you agree with his political views in general, no?

Because nobody eats chips and guacamole during the super bowl, right? So I’m watching football with a Mexican guy, I better not ask him to pass the dip. Criminy.

Does KO go overboard sometimes? Yes. Do I wish sometimes he’d shut up with the commentary and just tell me wha’ happened? Yes.

Am I going to defend every freaking thing he ever says?
