Michael Steele’s Minstrel Show

For me, this is the best possible outcome.

Michael Steele

Newly elected Republican National Committee Chairman Michael S. Steele plans an ‘off the hook’ public relations offensive to attract younger voters, especially blacks and Hispanics, by applying the party’s principles to ‘urban-suburban hip-hop settings.’

The RNC’s first black chairman will ‘surprise everyone’ when updating the party’s image using the Internet and advertisements on radio, on television and in print, he told The Washington Times.

Having been elected to the job that the Bush White House and its political guru, Karl Rove, once denied him, Mr. Steele is running the show his way. To those who claimed he can’t make the trains run on time, he has this message: ‘Stuff it.’

Bwahahahaha! The Republican party hooked up with what they thought was the cool black guy at the party, but at the end of the day he’s just some clown.

    “Off tha hook”

    Good one, Mike.

Keep an eye out for Mitt “Guy Smiley” Romney doing “Who Let the Dogs Out.”

  2. Jaim says:

Steele is the ultimate win-win for Democrats. On the one hand, he’s demonstrably incompetent (never won a real election, for starters). On the other hand, he’s going to drive the establishment Republicans insane with stuff like this.

  3. Rheinhard says:

Steele is totally “with it” to the max, dawg! He’s gonna get all up in your grill because the Republican party is totally dope. He’s kickin out those jams and other similar youth-oriented phrases, yo!

  4. SpiderJ says:

“Today’s GOP is in the hizzy, a’ight? They gots it going on, knowhumsayn? Give it up for m’man E-Unit Cantor, who is dope phat diggity, and is going to take care of bidness, hear?”

  5. jr says:

    Dear Michael Steele,
Maybe not comparing African Americans to primates, fearmongering about getting leprosy from Mexicans and comparing gays to beastiality would help your party in the 18-34 demo

  6. Sean D. Martin says:

I wonder what the reaction would be if anyone referred to Obama’s media pushes as a “minstrel show”?

  7. Jaim says:

If Obama said he wanted to put forward his proposals with “urban-suburban hip-hop settings” then you’d have a point, so you don’t.

  8. freD says:

Now all Steele needs is a gyrating crew of dancing homies, bitches and ho’s. But he can’t forget cowboy hats.. er, the NASCAR caps..

More innovative copy tactics from the party of “self-reliance” and “ideas”.

    Reagan – Bush.
    Hillary – Sarah.
    Obama – Steele.

They might want to start with competence. Wait… I forgot. Political and government leadership cannot ever be competent. Or is that all leadership in general? Now I’m confused.

  9. Zardozinhell says:

    This is too funny!

When Michael “Steal” start wearing his pants low and sporting a gold grill, I’ll believe him. Nothing like your Dad wearing your clothes to get you to listen to him.

I’ll bet his white compadres think he’s “hip”!

  10. Leota2 says:

This would have been painful if it had not been so damned funny.
Michael Steele . . . WTF do you know about Urban Suburban hip -hop? And will Mitch
McConnell and Lindsey Graham be made to fade their hair and dance?

  11. Jay Tea says:

I hear at his next press conference, Obama’s going to treat us to a rendition of “Mammy.”

    With Joe Biden in blackface.

    J.

  12. What is that even supposed to mean? Black republicans do a step-n-fetch show then recoil when people call ‘em on it.

  13. Paleo Pat says:

but at the end of the day he’s just some clown.

No man, it’s house Negro. Or in his case, Oreo Cookie. I’m about as opposite of you when it comes to politics man, but they need to put this dude on the corner. The last thing we need, is for the G.O.P. to become Democrat-lite.

I give it 6 months and the whole G.O.P. staff will be black. Watch. I know what Steele is trying to do, and it’s wrong, DAMNED Wrong.

I can’t help but think of the “Poochie” episode of the Simpsons.

“We at the Republican Party want a chairman with attitude. He’s edgy, he’s ‘in your face.’ You’ve heard the expression ‘let’s get busy’? Well, this is a chairman who gets ‘biz-zay!’ Consistently and thoroughly.”

I wonder what the reaction would be if Obama decided to ‘Hip-hop’ the White House?

Given the past attempts at appealing to black youths (Remember “Who let the dogs out”?) calling this a ‘minstrel show’ might turn out to be kind. After all, from Steele’s own words, it sounds like he will be using black culture to sell the GOP to a group that is not receptive to the principles the GOP stand for. Instead, they should figure out what part of the GOP blacks and Hispanics are turned off by. (The Southern Strategy.)

  16. Grumpymann says:

This is a surprisingly racist discussion.

99% of the black people I know (and being black myself that is a large number of people) do not subscribe to any of these behaviors.

  17. SpiderJ says:

Grumpy – I think that’s the point. Steele seems focused on how to best sell the message to younger people without considering that maybe the message itself is less palatable to younger people.

  18. C.S.Strowbridge says:

SpiderJ says: “Grumpy – I think that’s the point. Steele seems focused on how to best sell the message to younger people without considering that maybe the message itself is less palatable to younger people.”

Exactly. The GOP are going to use racial stereotypes to try and sell their unpopular policies to the people they are racially stereotyping. It’s almost sublime in its inanity.

Yeah, and this is shaping up to be the
    Worst
    Episode
    Ever.

Maybe I should have said this this discussion is filled with racist statements.

After reading Grumpymann’s comment of concern, I’d like to retract my own 12:08 pm comment. I am sorry for any discomfort or inconvenience it may have cause for our more sensitive readers. I confused street humor with that which might be more appropriate for internet blogging. I humbly apologize.

That said, I’d like to replace that 12:08 pm comment with a more politically correct one, suitable for even our most conservative guests:

It doesn’t matter whether a f#(%ing piece of $#!t pig is wearing hip-hop clothing or even lipstick, it is still a f#(%ing piece of $#!t pig!
