ODS Watch: Hannity & Today’s Apocalypse
Tweet
President Barack Obama is driving the right wing in this country around the bend. Today’s tidbit is an apocalyptic montage that Sean Hannity opened his show with. It takes a certain kind of brain damage to present this as serious political analysis and not the rantings of the neighborhood crackpot.

“The process by which we came by this bill stinks!” says one guy. I wonder how far back he is talking about. Days, weeks, months or years.
Elections have consequences.
If your party gets its ass kicked, you probably aren’t going to be very happy regardless. Your party runs the country for eight years and ruins it, you will likely be ignored.
Your party runs the country for eight years and ruins it, you will likely be ignored.–Jaims
I must say, Jaims, you do a heckuva job ignoring Republicans.
Evidently, BDS takes quite a while to overcome.
Maybe coming up with the unbelievably ingenious ‘ODS’ moniker and repeating it over and over to bring it into the liberal lexicon is an excellent first step in your recovery therapy.
Look, eight years of Republican economics = The Bush Recession, which before it’s over might turn out to be The Bush Depression. We still don’t know exactly how much bad debt the hyper-deregulated banks were allowed to take on with non-existent Bush-era SEC regulation. Things very well could get worse.
Banks aren’t making loans to businesses. People who have lost their jobs aren’t paying taxes. The American economy is completely stagnant and receding due to Republican economics.
As Chris Matthews asked a few nights ago (and I’m not his biggest fan), just why do Republicans expect Americans to want more of the same failed Republican economic policies right now? More tax cuts for George Soros and Paris Hilton? More hyper-deregulation of the banks and the salmonella-ridden peanut factories? Trillions in irresponsible deficit spending?
It’s going to take time to see whether or not Obama’s stimulus is as effective as sane, patriotic Americans hope it is (i.e., not wing-nuts like yourself and Jay who’d rather America fail than see it recover). But what we know for a fact is that Republican economics don’t work, and never have. They ruined the country in the 1920′s, and they ruined it again during the first decade of the 21st century.
Hell, even St. Reagan raised taxes in order to curb the deficit. Funny how you cons tend to overlook that piece of history.
Nice try Jaim, but let’s overlook the facts that:
1. Congressional Banking Oversight was ‘run’ by Dems.
2. Fannie and Fredie, the main culprits of all this, were propped-up, cajoled, and ran by BIG DEMS solely for political gains.
3. Dem Dinosaurs didn’t heed the many signals of pending lending/housing problems.
Ignoring those facts is the ‘easy way out’ BUT! They are there. They exist, and they won’t go away.
It’s that pesky little thing called…………..reality.
Republicans controlled the White House for eight years. I guess Bush II really was a failure since he failed to do anything about the crisis.
Republicans controlled Congress for six years. I guess they really are failures since they failed to do anything.
By your logic, Dems might as well run all branches of government since Republicans fail at leadership when they’re in charge.
Oh, that’s right — now they do control all branches of government.
Thanks for playing.
Simple fact is, the American economy historically does better when Dems are in charge. And thankfully, although it will take a little time, that’s the case now.
As Chris Matthews asked a few nights ago (and I’m not his biggest fan), just why do Republicans expect Americans to want more of the same failed Republican economic policies right now? Jaims
Jaim-
Liberal bloggers repeatedly predict the demise of Fox News and their ratings on their nightly cable shows, along with just about every conservative pundit. Why do you keep listening to them when they’ve been so wrong?
Chris Matthews was mocked by even Keith Olbermann when he displayed his messiah-like infatuation of Obama saying he gave him a tingle up his leg. Liberal bloggers before he swore his allegiance to Obama used to ridicule and mock him mercilessly because of his saying Bush was the guy people would rather have a beer with over Gore, and his seeming to be in agreement with the Iraq War, at least at first. Then he makes overtures that he wants to oppose Arlen Specter in 2010. Why he is allowed to still pretend to be an objective journalist would normally be a mystery if it weren’t for the fact he was doing his bidding on MSNBC. So when he tries his best to grill Republican politicians, it amazes me that liberals all of a sudden makes some sense. All he’s doing is what Olbermann has been doing for the last four years, rip n’ reading from Daily Kos and other liberal blogs and then phoning it in on his nightly show. Then this gives you a tingle up your leg. It’s like Chris Matthews feels he owes it to you, and now you owe it back to him.

Not me. I understand there’s a lot of mouth-breathers out there (just look at a Palin rally), and Fox has mastered that market.
Not me. I understand there’s a lot of mouth-breathers out there… Mister ed
The mother of all mouthbreathers expounds on mouthbreathers.
Yes, joaquin, Fannie and Freddie are the main causes of the current economic shitstorm we find ourselves in. They are the cause of the recession, not merely symptoms of an underlying disease.
You idiot.
Guys, you elected a stupid frat boy to be your President. You elected ignorant, uber-Christian Republicans to Congress. Is it any wonder that, after eight years of Republican control (ok, only 6 years in Congress) that everything is fucked? Your underlying economic theories are horseshit. You subscribe to ideas that have been demonstrated to be false. You must be insane, because no sane person would continue to think that tax cuts, etc., are the answer after being shown so plainly that they have failed.
And it smacks of hypocrisy and undeserved hubris when you try to play the “fiscal conservative” again. After Bush and Co. spending like a drunk sailor (and with Clinton being fiscally-responsible, before him) and you cheerleading the whole way, it is hilarious that you are now critical of the stimulus plan. If a Republican had introduced it, I have no doubt that you’d be ecstatic about it.
I’ve kinda started to go off on a tangent, so let me just finish up. Dennis, joaquin, and every other conservative troll on here who’s more interested in tearing down Obama and the Democrats than shouldering blame for the disastrous Bush years:
Go fuck yourselves.
If a Republican had introduced it, I have no doubt that you’d be ecstatic about it. –mambochicken
I don’t think you mean that, mambo,an I’ll treat it as such, but as for me, that’s not true. And I think you discredit a lot of conservatives who weren’t particularly happy with Bush’s and this last Congress’ spending habits. But if it’s a forum to rant and place a name along with it, go ahead and use mine. And why not, seems to be a popular thing to do here. But you would be wrong in this case.
Sound like mambochicken23 got his feathers plucked and jaim is sitting by the mailbox waiting for his $13 check!
Oh man, that’s just too damn funny!!!
How convenient of you (Repuke trolls Dennis, Joachim, Jaim) to ignore the last eight years of your G.oosesteppin O.bstructionist P.arty’s rule (I’m using that term loosely here) and how 1.5 (est) trillion in Rethuglican tax cuts and borrowing and graft destroyed the economy, a mess our grandchildren will be paying for.
I doubt if any of you fools said a thing about the billions spent monthly in Iraq for years, borrowered billions I might add, that could have been used to rebuild every school and rebuild every bridge in this country.
With your mouse sized balls and pea sized brains you idiots actually think that your regurgitated arguments have any credibility here? Do you?
Your words mean absolutely NOTHING and serve no purpose but to allow you to hear yourselves b*tch and moan.
The policies you obviously support have been soundly dicredited not just by the majority of voters but by the massive unemployment rate, increase in poverty and the overwhelming hardship heaped on the daily lives of American people.
So, to you I say STFU!
1. Congressional Banking Oversight was ‘run’ by Dems.
If the house and senate together were 534 Republicans and Barney Frank, you guys would find some way to blame this on Barney. No sense denying it.
Dennis: “I must say, Jaims, you do a heckuva job ignoring Republicans.
Evidently, BDS takes quite a while to overcome.”
The difference between BDS and ODS is simple. You don’t have to be deranged to hate Bush, you just have to be paying attention.
Bush was recently ranked as one of the 10 worst presidents, ever.
Obama has been in power less than a month.
“2. Fannie and Fredie, the main culprits of all this…”
Hmmm, is Joaquin stupid or a lying.
Nope, he’s a Republican, which means he’s both.
Joaquin says: “Oh man, that’s just too damn funny!!!”
You know what’s funny?
With a name like Joaquin, much of the Republican base hates you. They don’t think you are a real American, because you have a ‘Mexican’ sounding name.
How convenient of you (Repuke trolls Dennis, Joachim, Jaim)
Whoa, there! Jaim’s on our team.
Once again, Dr. Zaius explains it all for us.
Liberal bloggers repeatedly predict the demise of Fox News
I don’t. I acknowledge Fox News as an example of a successful small-market niche product. American Idol is a better example of a large-market success.
The purpose of Fox News is to give angry, alienated right-wingers the ability to think themselves smarter than their liberal colleagues and relatives, by dint of having been handed a list of talking points to repeat and regurgitate at home and on blog comment sections.
I might add that the Hannity montage is just an example of what it takes to cultivate a small but loyal target audience: the promise that the viewers are an elite group of people who know “the truth” about “what’s really happening” which they can then lord over all their ignorant liberal friends and relatives.
You don’t build loyalty by giving a boring litany of policies that are being passed. You convince them that they’re the last line of defense against the rampaging liberal hordes who’ve illegitimately taken the government away from the fine examples of policy intelligence such as GW Bush, Sarah Palin, and John Boehner.

Oh, OK. As opposed to falling asleep watching CNN, and as opposed to listening to ‘I want to have Obama’s baby’ Chris Matthews, yell at conservatives, or as opposed to Keith Olbermann repeating what’s been on Daily Kos and HuffPo just that very day and telling it to guests who do little else besides nod their heads in tandem with him; the man who speaks truth to power, the power being people who never disagree with him?
The babes on Fox are smokin’, Tyro. Why can’t just acknowledge even that one not insignificant detail?
I might add that the Hannity montage is just an example of what it takes to cultivate a small but loyal target audience: –Tyro
Methinks you haven’t been paying attention to cable ratings, Ty-ty. Even the younger demographic for Hannity is way ahead of the other cable shows. Rachel Madcow is not even close in the total head-to-head or the 25-34 demo, even though she is slightly cuter in a different kind of way than Sean is.
Dennis, none of your statements addressed anything I wrote, but I hope it all made you feel better.
Methinks you haven’t been paying attention to cable ratings,
It is you who do not realize that they’re cable ratings. Not too bright, are you?
Rachel Madcow is not even close in the total head-to-head or the 25-34 demo, even though she is slightly cuter in a different kind of way than Sean is.
Plus she’s infinitely smarter than Hannity. And Rachel’s not a congenital asshole either. So she has those thing going for her. Which is nice.
“The babes on Fox are smokin’”
Got that right. Ann Coulter. Long blonde hair subtly framing banana head, 26-26-26 figure, perfectly shaped sasquatch feet. And that adams apple. You know we’d be there, man, if she just didn’t have a preference for Dicks like Cheney.
And E.D. Hill. Proving that over 25 with eight kids isn’t over the hill at FOX. And Greta. Sweet Greta. What she lacks in youthful vigor she more than makes up for with that L.Ron Hubbard stuff. I’d be talking some serious E-meter with that bitch.
“Fannie and Freddie are the main causes of the current economic shitstorm we find ourselves in. They are the cause of the recession, not merely symptoms of an underlying disease.”
everything I need to know I learned from talk radio
Tyro hit it right on the head. 40 years of conservative indoctrination teach cons to ignore any reality that doesn’t come from their hand picked outlets. These outlets make it very easy to be a conservative, because they dole things out in neat talking points.
That way, whenever someone complains about the economy, cons all chime in with “Barney Frank” and “Fannie Mae” even though they had little power to effect any crisis. Typically these talking points feed into con hate of liberals and minorities, as if we were to believe that the whole world economic system crashed because banks made loans to poor black people.
LETS GET A PETITION STARTED TO GET THE FAIRNESS DOCTRIME
REINSTATED NOW!
LET THE NATION WATCH THE REPUBLICANS TALK THEIR EMPTY RHETORIC FOR HOURS ON END WHILE THE DEMOCRATS TRAVEL THE CONUNTRY TALKING ABOUT INVESTING IN OUR FUTURE AS A GREAT NATION. THEY FAIL TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT WAS A GOP LEAD NATION THAT GOT US IN THIS MESS. PRESIDENT OBAMA HAS TRIED
TO EXTEND HIS HAND OF BIPARTISANSHIP TO THE REPUBLICANS IN BOTH HOUSES OF CONGRESS, AND AS YOU CAN SEE HOW CLUELESS AND OUT OF TOUCH THE GOP REALLY IS.
THE BIG JOKE NOW IS THEY VOTED DOWN THE STIMULUS, AND NOW THEY ARE LOOKING FOR THEIR CHUNK OF THE PIE. DOUBLE STANDARD
