Please Send Peanut Man Stewart Parnell To Jail

Seriously. Jail. Not a fine or a slap on the wrist. This guy (and others in his company) are the reason behind several homicides.

A peanut company blamed for a salmonella outbreak discovered the dangerous bacteria at its Georgia plant as far back as 2006.

Darlene Cowart of JLA testing company told a House committee on Wednesday that Peanut Corp. of America contacted her business in November 2006 to help control salmonella discovered in the plant.

Federal health officials earlier said the company’s private tests found salmonella a dozen times, dating to June 2007. Cowart’s testimony shows the company was dealing with the bacteria problem seven months earlier.

The number of deaths that may be linked to the contaminated food increased to nine on Wednesday after Ohio officials confirmed a death there.

Stewart Parnell, the owner of Peanut Corp. of America, refused to testify at the hearing amid the disclosure that he urged his workers to ship bacteria-tainted products, pleading with employees to at least ‘turn the raw peanuts on the floor into money.’

I think the question that begs to be asked is: WHERE WAS THE FDA?

  2. Duros62 says:

I think you know the answer to that, Joaquin. You just don’t like the answer.

  3. jeff says:

Why are there not ANY pictures of Stewart Parnell, The owner of Peanut Corp, in the press?

Why is his face not plastered all over the web and every media outlet?

If this was a poor person who killed 9 and injured hundreds, his face would be out there.

  4. Henryville says:

Why, oh why couldn’t these SOBs have been in China? When they finally got around to it, they sure didn’t screw around with those who knowingly provided tainted food products. Life sentence or firing squad.

  5. nanorich says:

He will go to jail when this episode airs on “Law and Order”

    as in felony murder jail.

  6. durablend says:

Toss him in jail and feed him all that crap! See how he likes it.

  7. socialcontract says:

unfortunately this guy will pay a heavy fine, make a plea deal with the government and serve a small jail sentence if at all. It is shameful how we allow these horrible so called white collar crimes to go relatively unpunished. They should be jailed like drug dealers, theives and other killers

  8. BOB2 says:

Call the Early County Sheriff’s office and let them know about this serial killer who intenionally uses bio toxins to murder, who is wandering around their community.

    You are 100% correct.

  10. [...] eight (8!) people dead (dead!) and hundreds more in the hospital as a direct result of his action. stewart, you’re going to jail. dunno where, dunno when, but you’re [...]

I’m not so sure about that. Seems like felony murder charges would stick.
    Any lawyers in the house?

  12. D. Mullen says:

I sincerely hope that the government will not be inclined to offer this guy a plea deal. What he has done is nothing short of domestic terrorism, and premeditated murder. The issue with the FDA not being there is a completely seperate problem. The FDA needs to be re-vamped and an investigation into their conduct is surely warranted, but I’m not sure what will ever happen over their action, or lack thereof.

  13. Ron says:

He should spend life in jail… all comfort and monies even his wifes stuff should be taken away let them live on peanut butter and twinkies. This man knew all about it his wife knew….all they cared about was themself and moola shamefull .

  14. mark smith says:

Prosecutors should go for the death penalty for Stewart Parnell. Not too much difference here between this guy and the guy who put cyanide into the tylenol capsules 25 years ago.

  15. R. Saul says:

I think we can learn from the Chinese court that sentenced two men to death for their roles in producing and selling infant formula tainted with melamine, a deadly chemical. The swift trial and the harsh sentences show Beijing’s determination in tackling the country’s food safety problems. Perhaps if we evoked severe penalties for intentional irresponsibility our food supply would be a lot safer.

  16. Mog says:

Gotta love people who condemn a man without knowing all the facts.

If you run a business, are you going to sit back and wait for your stocks to rot and happily go out of business, or are you going to urge those who control your fate to act quickly?

If you get a positive test for something, (false positives are real), are you going to throw out all your product or are you going to have it retested? If it is retested and comes back clean, are you going to throw out everything?

I don’t know all the facts either, but at least think about all sides.

The FDA if they get the power to have total control over the food supply and mandatory recall authority, they could potentially take all food off the market to ‘protect’ us. I bet till the hunger paings set in, you will feel thankful that they are doing such a good job, not so much afterwords.

  17. Merle T Cornpone says:

Stewart Parnell is a mass murderer. I hope he is tried in a state with the death penalty. I think his board of directors and henchmen should be tried, too.
The Chinese sentenced the person responsible for milk contamination to death, already.
The FDA is too busy sipping martinis with lobbyists to have time to protect us. A death penalty for Parnell would send a clearer message to food producers than anything the FDA can or will do.

  18. Bruce Henry says:

This Mog person has a point.

Hey, I can’t help but notice all the new commenters lately. Hi, y’all.
Did you all suddenly get over your shyness, did you only recently discover oliver’s site,(how?), did Oliver suddenly change some moderation policy I’m unaware of, or what?

So the only options are not enough enforcement, or a total ban on food?

    Nope. Don’t buy it.

  20. Dave G says:

Why in the heck would the Government accept plea with this guy. They have copies of his e-mails that directed the plant manager to ship the contaminated products. This guy is going to jail. In deed this may set a precedent considering we have a brand new president and some legislatures that want to make “Lincoln Like History”. We also just appointed a new Supreme court justice. I dont think the timing is too good for this guy……
