Ohio Teacher Amber Carter: Great Teacher… Or Greatest Teacher?

It’s usually the students who get in trouble for cutting class.

An Ohio fourth-grade teacher had a side job as a prostitute, and even skipped class after using a school computer to arrange an afternoon tryst at a motel, authorities say.

Logan County sheriff’s officials said 35-year-old Amber Carter was arrested Tuesday at a motel parking lot in Bellefontaine in central Ohio. She was charged with misdemeanor prostitution and a felony, unauthorized use of property, regarding the computer.

Let me get this straight: prostitution is a misdemeanor, but using a school computer for bidding on Ebay or getting the scores from ESPN is a felony? That’s why we have the greatest legal system in the world: because it’s so funny.

If only we paid teachers more. Then they wouldn’t have to moonlight.

    CAT,

    You beat me to it.
We had a similar case locally (don’t know if she was using school computers). At least it got one official to admit maybe we should be paying our teachers more.

She is not a good model for her students.. She must be punished accordingly.. Naturally, since the students will know of her other job, the respect of these students will no longer be there.. Hence, it is better if Amber Carter be removed from teaching.. It would be best for the students, for the school and of course for her also.

Has a psych doctoral candidate started working on what it is that makes young-ish female elementary school teachers so susceptible to weird sexual stuff like this?

At least she wasn’t sleeping with her students.

It was probably only a matter of time. Do you know how much lunch money you have to save these days to afford a prostitute? Just ask the freshmen who’ve been passing out in the hallways from hunger for the last two or three months.

I think this is a telling critique on the state of our economy. On the other hand, as a teacher, I hardly find this story funny. Your headline sends the wrong message. Teachers are not only advocates for children but whether we like it or not, we are role models for our children.

This being the most important part.
SEN. ENSIGN: But the other thing, to get back to what Congressman Frank said, is that, you know, we’re going to be laying off teachers and firefighters. You know, that’s just fearmongering. We’re not going to be doing that in any of the states. The states have grown, in their budgets, faster than population growth, faster than inflation for the last several year–actually, probably about the last 15 years. Their budgets are bloated, the federal government’s budget is bloated. What we should be doing is cutting back. Instead of just spending money, we should eliminate wasteful Washington spending and also require the states to have some fiscal discipline.

Unfortunately teachers are not only being paid little, but actually laid off….http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/fayette/stories/2009/02/11/fayette_school_deficit.html
