Police arrested the former manager of Sen. John McCain’s Pueblo presidential campaign office Wednesday on charges he sexually assaulted a 5-year-old boy left in his care so the boy’s mother could attend a rally for McCain’s running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, The Denver Post’s Howard Pankratz reported Thursday afternoon.

It’s the second arrest on charges of sexual assault on a child by a person in position of trust in a week for Jeffrey Claude Bartleson, 52, who has faced similar allegations at least five times since 1982 without being convicted of a crime, according to the Pueblo Chieftain’s Nick Bonham.

Pueblo is actually in southern Colorado, not New Mexico.

  2. Doh, meant to write one when I meant the other. Fixed.

  3. C.S.Strowbridge says:

Maybe I’m slow here, but this dude was arrested last week for this, and someone left their son in his care this week.

    Am I reading that right?

Clearly, he missed his calling to the priesthood.

    CS:Am I reading that right?

After reading about Bartleson’s arrest last week, a McCain campaign worker from Pueblo contacted police and said she believed her son had been assaulted by Bartleson in October when the boy spent the night at Bartleson’s house.

So he was charged with a second count.

  6. Jaim says:

This is obviously good news for John McCain.

    HAW!

…on charges he sexually assaulted a 5-year-old boy left in his care so the boy’s mother could attend a rally for McCain’s running mate

I realize what that means to say, but the first time thru I read it as he assaulted the boy so his mother could attend the rally…

So neither parent knew of any previous incidents when they left their child with this man?

God, this is a poorly written article.

Yeah, I guess. Apparently, now that this story has hit, there are parents coming out of the woodwork.

This one is written a little better.

He was arrested Jan. 29, released on $150,000 bail and arrested again Wednesday on two additional warrants. His next court hearing is set for Feb. 23.

“We still have people who are coming forward,” said Sgt. Brett Wilson, of the Pueblo Police Department special victims unit.

“When he was arrested last week, the Pueblo Chieftain put out a news article. And since then, we have had more victims come forward.”

Wilson said the alleged victims so far have been boys under 16 years old.

The oldest case dates to the 1980s, and the most recent happened last year.

  11. Randy Brown says:

    To paraphrase Pete Townshend:

    Do you think it’s alright
To leave the boy with Uncle Jeffrey?
    Do you think it’s alright?
We need to bond with Palin tonight
    Do you think it’s alright?

    I’m your wicked Uncle Jeffery
And I hope that you won’t mind me
    As I fiddle a-bout
    Fiddle a-bout
    Fiddle about!

  12. Duros62 says:

    Yes I think it’s alright
    I think it’s alright.
    I think it’s all riiiiiiight

  13. Jaim says:

Note to parents: “M. Foley” is not a reputable childcare specialist.

  14. C.S.Strowbridge says:

God. Never trust people in authority.

People who are rich, powerful, in charge did not necessarily get there because they have any skill, trustworthiness, ability.

They could be crooks. They could be morons with connections. They could be charming perverts.

  15. Frank DiSalle says:

and they could be non-taxpaying Democrats.

But “ignore the tax evading influence peddlers behind the curtain”

Lessee, who would you rather leave your kids with?
