Rush’s Party

Hey, conservatives, how does it feel to have a clown like Rush Limbaugh as the head of your movement? Nevermind, you guys love him.

MORE: CNBC’s Mark Haines is one of the few media figures who pushed back at the absurd Limbaugh a little bit. He certainly shows more backbone than RNC members of congress.

    From Obsidian Wings:

Given this, I believe it would be fair – no necessary – that the media ask a whole host of questions of GOP representatives regarding Limbaugh’s past statements/positions. After all, the media has a duty to inform the American people of just how much influence the extreme right wing has over the Republican Party.

A short list below the fold, but feel free to add your own.

Does the Republican Party have a problem with calling Iraq war veterans that favor a withdrawal from Iraq “phony soldiers”?

Does the Republican Party believe that the torture and, in some cases, deaths of detainees at Abu Ghraib was akin to, or the result of, harmless “frat pranks”?

Does the GOP agreethat Obama got the Democratic nomination because “nobody had the guts to stand up and say no to a black guy”?

Does the GOP agree that the Democratic Party are the “PR spokespeople for Al Qaeda”?

That “minorities never do anything for which they have to apologize”?

That “The government’s been taking care of [young blacks] their whole lives”?

That Ahmadinejad’s writings contain “some liberal Hollywood Jewish people talking points”?

That “They [Democrats] celebrate privately this attack in Spain” – referring to the Madrid train bombings that killed 191 people.

That “Halfrican Americans” is an appropriate term for biracial individuals of mixed caucasion and African American descent?

  4. Jaim says:

Rush is their leader, and they’ll never abandon him. That’s why they’re doomed as a political party.

  5. C.S.Strowbridge says:

Rush gives hope to the base, but scares away the rest of the Moderates.

Either the Republican leadership reject him (fat chance), or the party dies off leaving the Democrats in power without opposition for at least a generation, or the party splits into two.

I’m hoping for the last one. That was the United States would have a Left of Center party, a Right of Center party, and a crazy wack-job party, which will slowly die off.

  6. Jaim says:

“Rush gives hope to the base, but scares away the rest of the Moderates.”

The very definition of “Palin-esque.” Cutting off your nose to spite your face, then wondering why nobody votes for you.

I nailed it in a DKos diary I posted a few minutes after midnight, but had written earlier. (I had to wait until midnight to post it because I had already posted a diary for Wednesday.)

Yesss. Triangulate the right! Make them own or deny Rush. Turning their own weapon back on them!

  9. C.S.Strowbridge says:

“Cutting off your nose to spite your face, then wondering why nobody votes for you.”

Cause there is blood all over your face and you look like a noseless freak. I wouldn’t vote for you if you looked like that.

    >Hey, conservatives, how does it feel to have a clown like Rush Limbaugh as the head of your movement? Nevermind, you guys love him.

Uh, feels great, I guess? Not listening to him, I wouldn’t know. Does this mean I can decide that Randi Rhodes is the “head” of your “movement” and pat myself on the back for saying something so profound?

  11. Parthenon says:

Does this mean I can decide that Randi Rhodes is the “head” of your “movement” and pat myself on the back for saying something so profound?

Um, no. Democrats don’t feel the need to kowtow to Randi Rhodes.

  12. Mylegacy says:

Rush isn’t a clown. Clowns are funny.

    OFF-TOPIC…

Oliver, how do I get to have a little picture by my name. It ain’t fair I can’t have one an I want one NOW! So there.

  13. Parthenon says:

ML – Go here and it will walk you through it. As long as you put in the same email, the picture will follow you to just about anywhere you post.

  14. Rush is exactly the problem with the right. Instead of listening to voters and figuring out that we are indeed moving to a center left nation they continue to beat the same tired drum they have beating for 20 years now.

We really need to stop paying this bloviator any mind. He is like the kid in class that thinks negative attention is better than none at all so he keeps acting out. I say let him hang himself with his own stupid words.

  15. C.S.Strowbridge says:

Haplo9: “Uh, feels great, I guess? Not listening to him, I wouldn’t know. Does this mean I can decide that Randi Rhodes is the ‘head’ of your ‘movement’”

When was the last time Randi Rhodes has leaders of the party on her show?

“and pat myself on the back for saying something so profound?”

You would have to say something profound first. Given your track record, that seems unlikely.

  16. Dennis says:

I nailed it…” Great way to start a post, RR. Don’t mean to burst your delusional bubble, but there was not one point made in your diary that either you or someone here hasn’t made several times already in just the last two days.

I heard him when he made the “hope Obama fails” statement, or maybe he said it a bunch. I don’t know, because I don’t pay that close attention.

You don’t know because you don’t pay that close attention. That summarizes your diary. You take one sentence ‘I hope he fails’ and formulate a thesis around those four words and then brag that you ‘nailed it’.

    Words fail.

Maybe if the Republican Party had listened to Rush for the last 6 years, it wouldn’t be in the shape it’s in.

    Interesting theory.

And testable. Via Pollingreport.com (Rush’s stated opinions in bold):

“Do you think the federal government should do more than it’s doing now to try to deal with global warming, should do less than it’s doing now, or is it doing about the right amount?”

    More – 61%
    Less – 10%
    About right – 27%

“How big a problem is racism in our society today? Is it a big problem, somewhat of a problem, a small problem or not a problem at all?”

    A big problem – 26%
    Somewhat of a problem – 48%
    A small problem – 22%
    Not a problem – 4%

“As you may know, Congress is considering a new economic stimulus package of at least 800 billion dollars. Do you favor or oppose Congress passing this legislation?”

    Favor: 52%
    Oppose: 37%

“Which of these do you think is more important: providing health care coverage for all Americans, even if it means raising taxes, OR, holding down taxes, even if it means some Americans do not have health care coverage?”

    Coverage for all: 66%
    Holding down taxes: 31%

    Hmm… Curious.

  20. ed says:

Maybe if the Republican Party had listened to Rush for the last 6 years, it wouldn’t be in the shape it’s in.

Such as…? Seems to me the land and the king are one in this case. And in this case, the king is a racist chickenhawk asshole.

On the one hand, I hope you are joking, because the thought of someone as stupid as you are who votes is scary.

On the other hand, I hope you are serious, because if there are enough like you out there, the Republican party is dead.

“I nailed it…” Great way to start a post, RR. Don’t mean to burst your delusional bubble, but there was not one point made in your diary that either you or someone here hasn’t made several times already in just the last two days.

So after I composed my post for DKos, which had to wait until midnight to post because I had already posted a diary, others reached the same conclusion. Sounds like I nailed it. Thanks for pointing that out.

RR: “I heard him when he made the “hope Obama fails” statement, or maybe he said it a bunch. I don’t know, because I don’t pay that close attention.”

You don’t know because you don’t pay that close attention.

Correct, I don’t know whether he said it just a couple of times while I was listening, or whether he said it a bunch of times when I was not. Bottom line, he said it, and others heard it also. What are you disputing?

That summarizes your diary. You take one sentence ‘I hope he fails’ and formulate a thesis around those four words and then brag that you ‘nailed it’.

I used the fact that Rush repeated his statement and emphasized it to reach my conclusion. I don’t think you need to bother applying for a job with my company. You have already flunked reading comprehension.

    Words fail.

True, but that is the only medium I have here to attempt to communicate with you. If you need pictures, you will have to visit my website.

  25. Duros62 says:

I hear him tell Hannity that he hopes Liberalism fails, inasmuch as he hopes Obama fails.

Liberalism would have to do something really epic to match the spectacular failure of Conservatism. Like free abortions and human sacrifice at the Jefferson memorial or something.

Face it. Rush is now a “blame America first” guy.

  26. Haplo9 says:

    >Um, no. Democrats don’t feel the need to kowtow to Randi Rhodes.

Oh I see. So if a Democratic congressman has ever apologized to some non office holding democrat, that person becomes the head of your movement. Right. Any chance you guys can stop the hyperbolic dumb?

    >You would have to say something profound first. Given your track record, that seems unlikely.

Coming from A+ internet commenter CS, I take that as a compliment. Thanks. :)

  27. Dennis says:

Well, you remind me a bit of Creed from The Office, which is not a knock. Your service to our country is cool, and your mountain biking at your age (any age, actually) is cool too, but your adamancy for calling people who haven’t served ‘chickenhawks’ for expressing an opinion on the Iraq War decision different from yours, is not.

    That one you didn’t nail.

The GOP fucks this fat owner?

The owner fucks this fat GOP?

The GOP and the fat owner fucks America?

I believe #3 is closest to the truth.

Keep in mind: Limpballs’ weekly listenership is, what, 15-20 million?

The number of people who voted for Obama: 70 million.

Looks like the fat fuck and his wholly-owned party are SOL.

  30. canadian bacon says:

“Maybe if the Republican Party had listened to Rush for the last 6 years, it wouldn’t be in the shape it’s in”

Some did listen, that’s why Palin happened and why the campaign faltered the way it did. It’s also why McCain became such an asshole during the election. They will get nowhere with the dumbbaugh. But that OK.

  31. Maybe if the Republican Party had listened to Rush for the last 6 years, it wouldn’t be in the shape it’s in
They’ve done nothing but listen to Rush. Which is why the party increasingly looks like the meeting of a gentlemen’s club in Georgia and is almost as small.

  32. C.S.Strowbridge says:

Dennis: “Oh I see. So if a Democratic congressman has ever apologized to some non office holding democrat, that person becomes the head of your movement.”

The GOP have been sucking up to Rush for as long as I can remember.

Rush Limbaugh interviewed Dick Cheney. The sitting V.P. was interviewed by Rush Limbaugh. Until you can find a equivalent for the Democrats, you can take your fucking false equivalency and ram it up your ass.

“Right. Any chance you guys can stop the hyperbolic dumb?”

Look in the mirror. Repeat that last line as often as it takes till it sinks it.

  33. ed says:

No left-leaning radio pundit ever said, “I hope George Bush Junior fails”? There is no liberal equivalent to Rush Limbaugh (or Hannity or Coulter…etc.). Leave it to the “tenets of the Laffer Curve” chickenhawk to imply that any exist.

  34. Jaim says:

Please feel free to cite a prominent Dem radio hose saying that he or she hopes Bush II fails.

(Hint: There aren’t any. Talk radio is a pretty much Republican-dominated medium. It’s computers and the intra-tubes that they don’t do so good.)

But please, continue to defend Rush. The longer he’s around, the better for the future of the Democratic party. (Kinda like Sarah Palin.)

  35. C.S.Strowbridge says:

“Please feel free to cite a prominent Dem radio hose saying that he or she hopes Bush II fails.”

Or one that said it was okay for terrorists to attack a major American city, like Bill O’Reilly said.

This false equivalency is bullshit and needs to stop.

  36. Dennis says:

“Please feel free to cite a prominent Dem radio hose saying that he or she hopes Bush II fails.” C.S.Lewis Strowbridge

Seriously, CS, did you ever tune in to Air America radio any time over the last eight years and get the impression from any one of the many deranged loons there howling at the moon that they wanted to see George W. Bush succeed at any of his initiatives? Just to go back over the Surge from start to finish and what radio hosts were saying. Do you really think they wanted it to succeed. Because none of the came outright and said “I want Bush to fail.” even though it was obvious they did, that somehow is less offensive to you than Limbaugh saying it, even though no liberal ever honestly discusses his qualifying remarks before and after?

This false equivalency is bullshit and needs to stop.

To read a liberal printing that statement on a liberal blog is true quite laughable, and I’d like to thank for that. We should all have at least one good laugh every day.

  37. ed says:

even though it was obvious they did

We provided a clear link to racist shithead Rush Limbaugh clearly saying and meaning “I hope he fails.” You provide not a single link or source of any left-leaning person saying the equivalent about George Bush, Jr., just assert it as so (kind of like you did with the “several tenets of the Laffer Curve,” now that I think about it). If it’s so prevalent, I guess you won’t have any trouble coming up with a dozen examples. But a single one will do for a start. It’s pretty fucking serious for a radio personality with a large audience to say that he hopes the president will fail. We’ve got the goods (again). You don’t (again). Put up or shut up, chickenhawk. Thanks in advance. You and Rush Limbaugh deserve each other.

  38. Dennis says:

    Mister ed, the big-talker stalker.

Not much good ever seems to happen to stalkers, ed. Jail or suicide is about all you ever hear about them.

12 Step Program to quit me. You can do it.

  39. Dennis says:

    God I’m so lonely…

  40. C.S.Strowbridge says:

Dennis says: “Mister ed, the big-talker stalker.”

He’s not a stalker, because you respond to (nearly) every post. It’s a two-man flamewar and you are both responsible for continuing it.

Pretending you’re the victim won’t fly.

  41. Duros62 says:

Face it, Dennis, Rush hates America and hopes we don’t succeed. As does Hannity, Coulter, Savage, Beck, Lou Dobbs, O’rly, Malkin, Johnson, etc.

    Need I go on?

Conservatives had the ball for 8 years.
    You fumbled, badly.

Progressives and liberals are gonna try some new plays, m’kay?
Don’t like it? Get off the field.
