(That's my impersonation of a Republican ca. 2009.) The most important thing for the American economy right now is job creation beyond the service sector. And that's not an easy thing to pull off, especially when companies either a) don't have any capital or b) have some but are wary about taking chances when people are losing jobs and homes. It also doesn't help that the Bush Recession/Depression is very much a global phenomenon. But at least we have a president who's willing to be held accountable. That's refreshing to say the least. IMO, today's stimulus bill wasn't great, but it wasn't horrible either. An important push is going to be psychological, really, as Obama works to convince both Americans and potential foreign investors and consumers that we're ready to lead the world again.
