Gosh that seems racist somehow. Curious that you bring this up. We still don’t have an African American as president. We have an American/African. The vast majority of blacks in this country are descended from natives of West Africa and sometimes Central Africa and then hybridized with white or indian blood. Obama is 1/2 American through his mom and 1/2 East African through his dad. The East Africans were primarily enslaved by the Arabs and never made it to America.

So yeah, Obama’s black, blackity-black-black-black but he ain’t native, he’s an import.

Chris Matthews played a self-congratulatory clip this a.m. of his reaction to Obama’s 2000 convention speech in which he said “That’s the first black president.” Much as I loathe Matthews’ opportunism and perennial softballing, he was, in fact, prescient.
