Was it just me, or did Pickles look more pickled than usual tonight? She looked like Jack Nicholson in Batman.

  2. Porlock Junior says:

Oh goody, I get to be the first to quote Cromwell here (and shouldn’t we all recite this in unison on the morning of the 20th?) —

YOU HAVE SAT TOO LONG HERE FOR ANY GOOD YOU HAVE BEEN DOING. DEPART, I SAY, AND LET US HAVE DONE WITH YOU. IN THE NAME OF GOD, GO!

  3. daniel rotter says:

    Duros62, who is “Pickles?”

  4. Pickles, I believe, is President Bush’s bride.

  5. Jay Tea says:

Way to stay classy, Obama’s base.

“Base” — what a singularly appropriate term here. So applicable in two definitions.

He’s got a few more press gigs to underline how little he cares about what his critics have said. Begs the question, if you aren’t bothered by them, why do the gigs?

  7. durablend says:

Kind of early in the morning to be downing kegs of Kool-Aid, isn’t it Jay?

  8. Jay Tea says:

dura, I’m not the one parroting the standard bile, wallowing in the past and not looking to the future. I’m just pointing it out.

I’m not surprised, though. Narly all of the qualifications I heard around here for Obama consisted of “he’s not Bush,” so it’s not surprising that those who had no other points to make are going to keep beating that dead horse (or lame duck) as long as they possibly can.

And it’s especially entertaining to note that, considering the general opinion of Bush around here, “not Bush” is an incredibly low standard — completely out of proportion with the enthusiasm Obama garnered.

    J.

  9. Jay Tea says:

    Danged keyboard. “Nearly,” not “narly.”

    J.

  10. Jaim says:

“Obama’s base” = the majority of Americans

    ftfy.

  11. Jay Tea says:

Wow. Thanks for the education, Jaim. I had no idea that the 52.9% of voters who voted for Obama constituted, in their entirety, his “base.” I previously thought that the base was the core constituents, not everyone.

So, does that mean that Bush’s base in 2004 was 50.7% of Americans?

    J.

  12. Jaim says:

In the words of your buddy Chimpy, it’s called a “mandate.” A bigger one than he had, actually.

    As always, thanks for playing.

  13. NeoConstipated says:

    @ Jay Tea

Bush lowered the bar as far as Presidential Office competency, so it’s no surprise anyone would place themselves diametrically opposite McFlightsuit. He was a farcical President who has brought our country to a dark place.

I think people that stick up for Bush really just feel sorry for the poor bastard- and half the country who re-elected him? Even more pireous.

  14. Jay Tea says:

Nice goalpost shifting there, Jaim. “I said base, but I really meant mandate — and you’re an idiot for not knowing what I meant.”

On Obama’s “mandate…” I am curious to see what he does with that. In four days, he stops being a historic symbol and has to actually start doing the duties of the office.

If history’s any indicator, around 2010 he’ll pass off most of the duties to Joe Biden and start running for UN Secretary General. That’s what he did in the Illinois legislature and US Senate, after all.

But back to the topic at hand… in four days, the Bush administration is history. Your guy won. At what point will you stop re-fighting the 2008 election (along with the 2004 and 2000 ones) and actually talk about the future?

As I said, I can understand why you want to keep harping on that. Your guy’s biggest qualification was “I’m not Bush,” and that dead horse can still take another couple of days of flogging. Besides, it plays into the diminished expectations game you’re setting up for Obama.

    J.

  15. Jaim says:

“you’re an idiot for not knowing what I meant”

Sorry Jay, I don’t speak moron.

  16. He’s already done since years. Tell me one person, who really wants him to stay the president of the US of A.

  17. Wilbur says:

Narly all of the qualifications I heard around here for Obama consisted of “he’s not Bush,”

Then you haven’t been listening (no surprise there).

Yes, we’re glad that Obama is “not Bush”, but that is not why we voted for him. We voted for him because we agree with most of his policies and because he has the intelligence, charisma and organizational talent to put those policies into practice.

Yes our snorts of glee at the departure of Bush are maybe a bit unseemly, but understandibly human. Don’t worry, once he’s gone we’ll forget about him way quicker than you lot have forgotten about Chappaquiddick and Clinton’s blow job.

  18. william says:

    Most expensive “hello” ever –

“It will take Barack Obama less than a minute to recite the oath of office — and when he’s done dancing at the inaugural balls Jan. 20, the price tag for his swearing-in festivities could approach $160 million.” – NY Daily News

  19. buma says:

Since Jaye brought up the subject of classiness, anybody have predictions on who gets a Bush pardon on his way out? Maybe a blanket pardon including Gonzolez, Cheney, Rove, Rummy et al?

  20. michael says:

“Your guy won. At what point will you stop re-fighting the 2008 election (along with the 2004 and 2000 ones) and actually talk about the future?”

Listen to the man. After all, it’s not like the Republicans spent the last 8 years blaming everything on Clinto….

Sorry. Almost got through that with a straight face.

Way to stay classy, Obama’s base.

“Base” — what a singularly appropriate term here. So applicable in two definitions.

What a stunningly incisive analysis of the situation. And coming from such a paragon of virtue such as you, Jay. Who has never evar shown any sort of lack of class around this blog in his most respectful comments (ecpscially when talking about Democratic politicians).

I’m sure you can imagine how much weight your righeous indignation and disgust with the alarming way that the regular non-Republican’t commenters, and the non-Republican’t blog host here, are lacking in class means to the rest of us. Because of the awful and vile things that were said about the (for it only seems like forever but is finally actually less than a week) soon-to-be ex-disaster-in-chief.

Jay scolding others for a lack of class is akin to Nixon critiquing others for a lack of honesty, openness, and integrity. You stay classy there yourself, sparky!

  22. PD100 says:

Nearly all of the qualifications I heard around here for Obama consisted of “he’s not Bush,”

Which is just fine for the majority. The alternate choice was the same as Bush if not worse and after 8 years, tolerance for that kind of public stupidity pretty much got used up.

  23. Jay Tea says:

Great affirmation of my point, Michael — as long as you can hold yourself the slightest fraction of an inch higher than your adversaries, you’ve got enough of a moral high ground.

“We’re not quite as bad as you!” is SUCH a powerful declaration.

    J.

  24. matt621 says:

    Longest goodbye ever.

Try shortest memory ever… that would be Oliver’s… along with the rest of you pinheads.

Let’s see… when President Bush holds a rally at the Washington Airport on Tuesday afternoon, then another rally in Houston on Tuesday evening, and then another at Crawford on Tuesday night; when he gives a 1000 word speech trying upstage the new president and tells his supporters, “We’re not going anywhere,” maybe then you’ll have a leg to stand on.

Until that happens though… sorry, I almost made it through that with a straight face!

  25. C.S.Strowbridge says:

william: “Most expensive ‘hello’ ever – ”

Since when do Republicans care about fiscal responsibility?

Oh right, when a Democrat is in charge.

  26. C.S.Strowbridge says:

    J. G. Thayer: “Great affirmation of my point, Michael — as long as you can hold yourself the slightest fraction of an inch higher than your adversaries, you’ve got enough of a moral high ground.”

So says the man who side is lower, and still arguing that he’s better.

  27. michael says:

Eh, Jay, I think of it more like this: when someone’s driven a nail into your leg, the most important thing is to get the nail out. Worry about going out for ice cream later. Unfortunately, we’re stuck with five more days of nail-related bleeding.

  28. At what point will you stop re-fighting the 2008 election (along with the 2004 and 2000 ones) and actually talk about the future?

When he GOES AWAY. George Bush has a sub-35 to sub-25 approval rating (aka you guys) whereas Clinton had the approval of the majority of Americans on his way out. Bush is a pariah, Clinton was president.

And how soon we forget that John McCain also ran as “not Bush”. It’s like the two candidates wanted noting to to do with the conservative Epic Failure that is GWB.

    Again, is he still here?

  29. Jay Tea says:

Another ringing endorsement of “live by the polls, die by the polls.”

I’ll do my own thinking, thanks, and not let what 1,000 people carefull screened by pollsters make my decisions for me.

Oh, and Strowbridge, I don’t often argue “morality.” I usually find a way to make pragmatism and morality coincide.

    J.

    • I’ll do my own thinking, thanks, and not let what 1,000 people carefull screened by pollsters make my decisions for me.
Yeah, this is what people who support pols with sub-25% approval ratings always say. They were singing a different tune when Bush was at 80%.

  30. anotherbozo says:

I could stand his face one more time–as a defendant in a criminal trial.

  31. C.S.Strowbridge says:

    J. G. Thayer: “Oh, and Strowbridge, I don’t often argue ‘morality.’ I usually find a way to make pragmatism and morality coincide.”

    Blah, blah, blah.

More useless words from a useless loser.

Nothing you say matters, so you might as well shut up. The sooner you learn that, the better off we will all be.

Just follow Mr. 34% into history.

  32. C.S.Strowbridge says:

anotherbozo: “I could stand his face one more time–as a defendant in a criminal trial.”

    Absolutely.

I remember reading about a meeting where Bush was told that they couldn’t interrogate one prisoner right away because he was getting medical treatment. And Bush responded, ‘Who authorizes medical treatment?’

If this is true, Bush committed a war crime and should be prosecuted.

At the very least, he should be investigated, as a warning for future presidents that they are not above the law.

  33. Duros62 says:

I usually find a way to make pragmatism and morality coincide.

Oh, so you voted for Obama, then? :-D

  34. ed says:

I’ll do my own thinking, thanks, and not let what 1,000 people carefull screened by pollsters make my decisions for me.

Just Dick Cheney and Karl Rove. Nice job, Chickenhawks. You’ve really made a difference. The country has never been in better shape. The U.S. is far better off now than when Commander Bunnypants started pretending to be president.

  35. Quaker in a Basement says:

    Is he almost done?

Almost. I expect he’ll toss a handful of pardon paperwork in the air on his way to the airport, excusing a few loyalists from their criminal records.

Other than that, yeah he’s done.

  36. Sean D. Martin says:

Jay Tea: I’m not the one parroting the standard bile, wallowing in the past and not looking to the future.

Man, that’s just too much hypocrisy to take first thing in the day.

Nearly all of the qualifications I heard around here for Obama consisted of “he’s not Bush,”

Demonstrating, again, his uncanny ability to see only what he wants to see. Despite numerous comments over the past year where people have mentioned what they like about Obama, JT sees nearly all of it as just “he’s not Bush”. (Not that that isn’t something we should all be thankful for.)

  37. Parthenon says:

I expect he’ll toss a handful of pardon paperwork in the air

Wandered over to Worldnetdaily last night as I do occasionally for a chuckle. Basically the entire front page was devoted to demanding that Bush give a last-minute pardon to those two border agents, Ramos and Campion, whatever their names were.

  38. Sean D. Martin says:

Jay Tea: I’ll do my own thinking, thanks

You know, if you keep repeating the joke it stops being funny.

SaveFarris has nuthin. Except being comforted by his fellow Chickenhawks that they did the right thing.

  41. fafaroo says:

I’ll do my own thinking, thanks …

And Jay Tea, we’re all painfully aware that you do your own “thinking.”

Indeed, one would be hard pressed to find as “original” a “thinker” as yourself on the web.

  42. MrGreyGhost says:

Almost. I expect he’ll toss a handful of pardon paperwork in the air on his way to the airport, excusing a few loyalists from their criminal records.

Oh, you mean just like his predecessor:

  43. Sean D. Martin says:

    SaveFarris: Hope and Change!!

    Translation:

  44. PD100 says:

    Hope and Change!!

You got it Farris! Just like when Truman let Hirohito off the hook for Pearl Harbor. Fucking pussy.

  45. C.S.Strowbridge says:

    SaveFarris: “Hope and Change!!”

The two exclamation points suggests that you think you made an excellent point, but since I don’t speak retard, I don’t know what point you are trying to make.

Odds are Obama will not catch Bin Ladden, because after seven years the trail has gone completely cold.

On the other hand, Bush is the one who let that trail get cold. So in no way is this story useful in attacking Obama or praising George Bush.

  46. Duros62 says:

Bush knows exactly where he is. Just ask Poppy, he can find out with one phone call.

  47. Zython says:

“We’re not quite as bad as you!” is SUCH a powerful declaration.

This coming from a guy that says “We’re not as bad as Saddam.” to support the Iraq War. Nice work.

But back to the topic at hand… in four days, the Bush administration is history. Your guy won. At what point will you stop re-fighting the 2008 election (along with the 2004 and 2000 ones) and actually talk about the future?

Nice try, but we’re not letting our guard down so you all can criminalize homosexuality and Islam or whatever.

“Base” — what a singularly appropriate term here. So applicable in two definitions.

Ok, I get the first definition, but what the hell does having a pH of greater than 7 have to do with politics? Unless this is some witty subtle reference to a litmus test, then bravo good sir.

  48. Duros62 says:

At what point will you stop re-fighting the 2008 election

Who’s fighting? I’m drinkin’ your milkshake!

  49. Amused Observer says:

    Zython,
“Ok, I get the first definition, but what the hell does having a pH of greater than 7 have to do with politics? Unless this is some witty subtle reference to a litmus test, then bravo good sir”

Surely you jest, your education isn’t that poor is it? Base perfectly describes liberal mores.

  50. C.S.Strowbridge says:

Amused Observer: “Surely you jest, your education isn’t that poor is it? Base perfectly describes liberal mores.”

    Vitter.

Now perhaps you can shut the fuck up.

  51. Zython says:

Surely you jest, your education isn’t that poor is it? Base perfectly describes liberal mores.

So Republicans would be acids? Makes sense, you all ARE corrosive.

Well, since AO obviously never went to high school, I’ll explain it with definitions:

    Base:
    17. Chemistry.
    a. a compound that reacts with an acid to form a salt, as ammonia, calcium hydroxide, or certain nitrogen-containing organic compounds.

Don’t feel bad, AO, I’m sure getting expelled from high school for beating up the gay kid was worth it. After all, if you don’t kill them, who will?

  52. Amused Observer says:

    LOL Zython,
Don’t quit that dayjob being a waiter. Doesn’t take an education or a skillset just a servile attitude. Kudos for the chemistry reference. Perhaps one of your coworkers will be impressed. You know, the little girl that makes more money than you because she has a big rack.

Congratulations for knowing a wee little bit of the english language, not much but a wee bit. I would think in this easy to look up online world that even you might be able to do better.

What I believe the earlier poster meant and surely what I meant was common, course, inferior, without honor, without courage. Typical liberal values and mores. Cs, our northern socialist is a perfect example.

LOl, we didn’t get expelled from high school for fighting. You had to shake hands and that was the end of it.

  53. Jaim says:

Amused Observer, what do you do for a living?

  54. Zython says:

Poor AO, so angry, so stupid. Why do you hate America so much? Give it up, your ideology has failed. Deal.

  55. Amused Observer says:

    Zython,
The pendulum swings back and forth. I like your new hate America theme. Still working on your defintions?

  56. Zython says:

    Still working on your defintions?

Sure am. Here’s one I’ve been working on just for you!
