The NRA may be easing off of attacking Holder, a black man, for PR reasons. Just a few years ago the president of the NRA, when asked why the U.S. has an unusually high level of gun violence relative to other nations, responded, “Well, we have, probably, more mixed ethnicity than other countries, some other countries.”

Perhaps the NRA is keeping their powder dry. It is a pussy move but I doubt the coalition will crack any more than the left will jettison Obama as he moves to the center leaving a string of forgotten positions in his wake. Does Obama want blue collar Democrats to rethink their alliance he provokes them by attacking the 2nd Amendment. Holder is going to take plenty of heat from his association performance with Clinton pardons. Obama’s old Senate seat scandal is only a difference in degree not kind.

So, Oliver, let’s hear an impassioned championing of Mr. Holder’s qualifications to be Attorney General. Bonus points if you can include mentions of his involvement in bypassing routine procedures in the Rich pardon, his role in the FALN clemencies, and his role in the Elian Gonzalez fiasco.
All I can figure is that Rich has a copy of Obama’s true birth certificate or something, and is using that for blackmail for the AG job.
(For the clue-impaired: that last bit was a JOKE. I almost said “pictures of Obama with a sheep,” but the bit about referring to the stupid “birth certificate” foofaraw seemed a bit more Obama-specific, and not generic like the sheep line.)

The president-elect nominated him. No, seriously, you guys can throw 10 year old half baked stories around all you want in the vain effort to derail him, but we both know he’s going to be seated in all likelihood. I’m not on top of the other issues, but once again with Elian Gonzalez it seems you think a fringe conservative opinion resembles reality. The boy was being illegally harbored by his family here when he should have gone to his father. It shouldn’t have come down to the confrontation it did, but the DOJ showed restraint with the nutjobs holding him down in Miami.
Tim Russert and Eric Holder, on Gonzalez:
“You wouldn’t send a SWAT team in the middle of the night to send him back, would you?”
“Nope.”
Holder and Russert the day after a SWAT team took him and sent him home:
“We went in at five in the morning, not the middle of the night.”
How positively Clintonian.
And nice glossing over the other points — his role in the pardoning of Marc Rich, the clemency for the convicted terrorists, and his qualifications for the job. “He’s been nominated, so he’s qualified.” Funny how that reasoning didn’t apply to Sarah Palin…
Holder has NO business holding any position of authority in the federal government, especially the chief law enforcement officer of the land.
Unless, of course, you have absolute faith in Obama’s much-vaunted “judgement,” and the simple fact that Obama has nominated him means you don’t have to think for yourself any more and exercise independent judgment. “If Obama says he’s good, that’s good enough for me!”

I realize that moodern Republicans (like other political groups of the past) need an Other to exist–Southern Strategy and all that–but that’s pretty awful even for them. So whatever perceived reasons the NRA might have for opposing Holder, the NRA’s unfortunate bigot eruption may cause them to keep their powder dry in this instance.
