I note with amusement that the peculiarity mentioned in my first post appears to have been corrected. Democrats fold on the race card. Senate Democrats show the courage of their convictions. Any bets Blogo gets off all together. He probably has enough dirt on the rest of the folks from Illinois to bring this thing to a draw.

Such would not be contradictory to our present opinion of the Democratic leadership.

And of course, today, it seems that Burris will be admitted to the Senate. So is Mr. Willis’ stance now that the Senate Democrats are a bunch of spineless dweebs who are too afraid to stand up to a corrupt governor and support the Will of the People of the United States as expressed in a USA Today opinion poll?

Mr. Willis, when you originally posted that, did you think that the Senate Democrats would stand by their principles for longer than a day?

Last time I checked, the laws of the state of Illinois gave the Governor the power to appoint anyone to the Senate. He chose Burris.
If you don’t like the law change it.

The will of “the majority of Americans” matters in an issue which effects only the State of Illinois?

So, does this mean Mr. Willis now opposes same-sex marriage in states which recognize it since the majority of Americans oppose marriage between people of the same sex?

Help me out here? When does Mr. Willis support the tyranny of the majority and when does he oppose it? I could use a little primer here.

Yet stupid Ill. doesn’t want to hold a special election because it costs too much money. I wonder what people would say given that option. Either seat Burris, or likely wait a while before someone replaces Obama. Blago isn’t gonna resign until he’s indicted.

With a direct upfront clarification that this doesn’t even deign to compare to civil rights or anything of that nature, “will of the people” and “what’s in the constitution” are two very separate things. If the law says the governor fills a vacancy, and Burris is legally eligible to fill the vacancy, then seat the guy and let the pissed-off voters deal with him in the next election.

I’d really like to see a legal precedent blocking Burris that has a slightly broader scope than “the guy who appointed his is an asshole.”
