We’ve heard and seen many news reports about how unpopular Congress is with the American people. And it is at an all time low, but what most TV analysts are refusing to point out is that it’s the Republicans in Congress that are dragging down the approval rating. As a new Gallup poll shows us–Republicans in Congress Less Popular Than Bush:

And AO, the funny thing about Congress’s approval rating? If you poll people and ask, “How much do you approve of Congress?” you get one answer. If the question is “How much do you approve of _your_ Congressional representative?”
you get a very different answer. Most people like their own reps, but wonder why all those _other_ people keep voting for those loser bums again and again.

You actually believed him. Maybe you will come away from this experience a little wiser.

These are not bad qualities to have.

They are shared by every successful president in the history of the Union, and probably every successful political figure in history. Ceasar was murdered for being too radical; Augustus respected and included his opposition and so accomplished more than his uncle could have dreamed. I realize that’s an old example, but it’s an old principle.

But it’s still silly season. What do you expect. I think the nature of blogging, or news, or any other human endeavor, is that there is far more excitement and commentary over failure than success, especially if that success is just quiet competence.

It takes me back to the 2006/7 silly season, with the failure of the Democratic Congress proclaimed before Pelosi even took the gavel.

As if it needs saying: it don’t work that way.

A president that reflects American Values (TM) speaks like a retarded squirrel, evades his stateside-deferred military obligations, is unable to tell the difference between Shiite and Sunni, a zygote from a newborn and sits frozen with a childrens book when the nation is under attack.

Priorities, Quaker.

Word.

It really helps if you read his frakkin’ book. You get a better sense of what he’s really all about. It helps to strip away the veneer that others have coated him with.

Pragmatism. Moderation. Common Sense.

These are not bad qualities to have.

He’s putting forth the tax cuts he said he would. The people who are unhappy about gay marriage seem to have conveniently forgotten that he never supported it, while supporting gay rights legislation in other areas. The assertion that he’s “nominating right wing kooks to everything” is absurd on its face.

Answer: Kissing Bush’s & Republican ass and staying quiet under the guise of “respecting the office of the Presidency”.

It’s a shame that they don’t give Obama a fraction of that courtesy even before he officially takes office.

As much as Rethug trolls and politicians disgust me there is one thing I do appreciate about them; they let you know EXACTLY where they stand. “Liberals” stab you in the back while shaking your hand and kissing your cheek. We all know that, don’t we?

Obama’s knows his roll in history and got it under control so I’m not worried.

It is hard to justify campaigning on fair trade, government reform, and social justice and then turning around and becomming Bill Clinton II. Had Obama been honest in his decision to be a moderate/conservative Democrat, He would have lost the primary badly. Thats why this is a betreyal, not because he’s nominating right wing kooks to everything, but because it was implicit in his running against Hillary that he wouldn’t do that while she would.

He has the ability to turn things around, and perhaps he thinks he’s strong enough to make use of their experience and not fall victim to their reflexively anti-worker, elite ideology. Perhaps he even is that strong. But right now, there is plenty of reason to be worried.

Elementary school was quite a long time ago for some of us.
