Do Not Mess With The Gods Of Football
Tweet
The Patriots were warned.
As if having a perfect season spoiled with a loss in the last Super Bowl and losing MVP quarterback Tom Brady to a season-ending knee injury less than eight minutes into this season were not enough to punish the Patriots for their videotaping scandal of last year, missing the playoffs after posting an 11-5 record should square everything. New England is the first 11-win team to miss the playoffs since the current 12-team format was instituted in 1990.
Cheaters.
ALSO: The Cowboys apparently celebrated their 44-6 loss. I hope Wade Phillips sticks around – combined with T.O. it’s like the male version of Desperate Housewives.

If Jerry Jones has any brains left he’ll boot Phillips and hire Mike Shanahan.
How ’bout them Dolphins? Granted, I live in Asia, but from what I can read of the sports news it seems like they aren’t getting more credit (along with Parcells) for doing some pretty amazing work in turning around that franchise.
If Jerry Jones has any brains left he’ll boot Phillips and hire Mike Shanahan.
It has nothing to do with brains. It has to do with ego. Shanahan won’t go to work for Jones because Jones will refuse to give Shanahan the kind of control he wants over the team. It would be better for the team as the only time the Cowboys won the Super Bowl since Jones owned the franchise is when Jimmy Johnson was coach and had complete control over player personnel decisions. When he forced Johnson out, he took control. They haven’t won a playoff game since 1996.
The Patriots failed to make the playoffs because they were 2-4 against teams that ended up making the playoffs, including a lopsided loss to the 8-8 Chargers. No one in New England should complain about San Diego being in this instead of the Patriots, since they won the head-to-head match up. Some in NE are still complaining, but I think most fans recognize that finishing 11-5 after Brady went down made this a great season — finishing strong and missing the playoffs by a hair sure beats losing in the Super Bowl.
And, please give the “cheaters” thing a rest…
Just to complete the record, Barry Switzer won the Super Bowl in 1995 with the shambling corpse of Jimmy Johnson’s Cowboys. Then the corpse finally fell apart in 1997 and Switzer promptly retired, and THEN the Cowboys started truly stinking under Chan Gailey and Dave Campo, who were basically yes-men for Jones. I remember when Quincy Carter was supposed to be the new Randall Cunningham…Jerry stuck by Quincy for YEARS. Jerry reminds me of nothing so much as the late-70′s early-80′s George Steinbrenner. Steinbrenner’s Yankees won rings in 1977 and 1978 under Billy Martin, and suddenly George thought he was a big baseball man and promptly sunk the team with his meddling.
But nobody ever accused Jerry Jones of cheating. The Patriots got a big dose of karma korrection this year.
Who wouldn’t?
As a life-long Buffalo Bills fan, watching Dallas ride teh suck and get pummeled in the end was sweet entertainment. But that’s what it is. Entertainment. And to the players, it’s a job. One that pays handsomely, in fact. Even if you hold a clipboard for 60 minutes. So what if the end of the season was humiliating? You’re well compensated and officially on vacation. I’m sure none of us would have a problem celebrating that. As post you linked to said:
However, like yourself, I do take pleasure in Dallas’ misfortunes and things ain’t looking hot for them right now. WOoT!
