Palin Country!

palinSurprise.

Alaska officials are investigating racist jokes about President-elect Barack Obama that have been circulating on state government e-mail accounts.

One of the five e-mails obtained by The Associated Press asks about the outcome of the Democrat’s victory after all the time and money invested and concludes: ‘Another black family living in government housing!’

Ladies and gentlemen: Your modern Republican party.

Ladies and gentlemen: your modern Democrat party.

  3. ed says:

SaveFarris: Your modern Republican Party member, accusing Democrats without a shred of evidence. While we’re on the topic of acting on zero evidence, thanks again for the Iraq Invasion. It’s awesome. Keep on keepin’ on.

  4. johnnymags says:

@saveFarris- no Dems were suspected- another distract from the issue FAIL by an apparent Repugnicant. Repugs wouldn’t want an accelerant anyway- they’d want a filibuster agent.

and to clarify there are two species of Republicans:

Republicans- in the mold of Jefferson, Lincoln and Reagan who do service for their country. An endangered species. See Hagel, Chuck.

Repugnicant- Those who only seek to thwart the other party and line their pockets and cavort in men’s room stalls. Breed like cockroaches in the mold of Craig, McConnell, Boehner and Palin.

  5. SaveFarris says:

    ed & johnnymaps,
I’ll give each of you $1,000,000 if you can cite where in the article Oliver linked to that “the modern Republican Party” is/are suspected of forwarding those e-mails?

    Hasty Generalizations?

    Here??

    Say it ain’t so, O!

  7. Jack J. says:

SaveFarris, if you have that kind on moola, get your own blog and fantasize there.

I’m always amazed at how “modern Republicans” pull stuff out of their butts at any given moment AND THEN get defensive when you ask for a credible proof of their nonsense while at the same time demanding every else prove their facts immediately.

The word “:ass hat” was coined just for them.

  8. Bruce Henry says:

I disagree, Johhny. There are only two subspecies of Republicans:
    1. Multimillionaires
2.Suckers, like Farris, who does not have, and will never have, $2,000,000. But thinks he might someday, if he just by golly works hard and tithes or something.

  9. The Reality-Based Dave says:

As the Gubernator of Alaska, she is responsible for the people working for the state of Alaska.
Accountability: does not exist in the Rethuglican dictionary.

  10. Parthenon says:

I’m a Democrat. I believe indicting an entire party over the actions of a few miscreants here and there is bulls@$t. I guess that means I’m also an ass hat.

I’ll give you the same $1,000,000 back if you can cite anywhere in the posting Oliver made that he said Republicans were responsible.

Jack J: I’m always amazed at how “modern Republicans” pull stuff out of their butts at any given moment AND THEN get defensive when you ask for a credible proof of their nonsense while at the same time demanding every else prove their facts immediately.

Alas, the real truth of the matter is that folks across the political spectrum do this. People from both the left and the right can find examples of those on the other side who have pulled stuff out of their butts.

  13. matt621 says:

No, no, Sean… that was Ed who did that. Then johnnymags followed along.

The same Ed who challenged me to find three of Oliver’s generalizations… took me all of three days, at one per day.

And it was Ed and johnnymags, not Oliver, who were challenged by SaveFerris to back up their accusations.

What Oliver did was imply not that Republicans in general were responsible, but that one Republican in particualr might be involved. He did this in two ways: first, he entitled the post “Palin Country!” Second, he included a picture of Sarah Palin.

It’s another of the cheap tricks he likes to use – saying something without actually “saying” it, so later on, when his fallacies are exposed, he can do what you’ve done – “When did I ever say Sarah Palin was responsible? I never said that! I’m totally innocent!”

Moving the goalposts and declaring victory – another cheap little trick that gets a lot of use around here.

    Nice try.

That’s great, Matt621. You wanna start knitting dinner?

  15. Duros62 says:

Given that Palin runs the state like Bush runs the White House, surrounded by sycophants and lapdogs, it is hardly a generalization that “modern Republicans” may be involved.
It was a dickish thing to send, and Farris’s comment was a dickish thing to say also.

But I would expect nothing less.

  16. marindenver says:

“I’ll give you the same $1,000,000 back if you can cite anywhere in the posting Oliver made that he said Republicans were responsible.”

Oliver didn’t say that. The first commenter named ed said “Ladies and gentlemen: Your modern Republican party.” But, the e-mails were circulating on Alaska state government e-mail accounts. Sarah Palin is Republican. How many Democrats would you guess get hired to work in the Alaska state government? And how many Democrats generally are circulating racist e-mails about the Obama family? So I believe it was a pretty reasonable assumption on ed’s part.

  17. Amused Observer says:

    LOL,
If you can’t stand the heat stay out of the kitchen. That’s pretty mild stuff compared to what’s been said about Bush, McCain, and Palin in recent times. So do we have our collective undies in a bunch because this is a Democrat, no that can’t be, remember what Randi Rhodes said about Hillary and company. Or is it because this is a black Democrat.

You can’t do that sort of thing on government time and machinery. Perhaps someone will lose their job over it like some of the folks that took it upon themselves to violate Joe the Plumbers privacy.

But we still have the first amendment in this country and we can pretty much say anything we want. Obama’s fair game, better get used to it. He’s surely the first president to have nude pictures of his mama in circulation.

  18. Sean D. Martin says:

matt621: No, no, Sean… that was Ed who did that. Then johnnymags followed along.

I love it when it gets pointed out that both sides engage in a behavior, and then someone responds by saying “No, just them.”

  19. Sean D. Martin says:

marindenver: How many Democrats would you guess get hired to work in the Alaska state government? And how many Democrats generally are circulating racist e-mails about the Obama family? So I believe it was a pretty reasonable assumption on ed’s part.

That’s part of the problem. Too many people (on both sides) willing to just guess and assume. There’s no need to guess at the number of Democrats in Alaska state government, the info can be found if you spend a little time looking for it.

Of course, that means expending some effort, and where would we be if we had to get our facts straight first?

  20. Duros62 says:

Perhaps someone will lose their job over it like some of the folks that took it upon themselves to violate Joe the Plumbers privacy.

    Who did that?

  21. Duros62 says:

Joe the unlicensed scab plumber put himself out there and claimed he had nothing to hide. Turns out he kinda did. turns out he’s a know-nothing asshat blowhard with higher ambitions.

Turns out nobody gives a shit.

And, as you say, If you can’t stand the heat stay out of the kitchen.

    ed & johnnymaps,
I’ll give each of you $1,000,000 if you can cite where in the article Oliver linked to that “the modern Republican Party” is/are suspected of forwarding those e-mails?

Yes – it must have been Democratic civil servants who were forwarding that stuff. Because it was Democrats, not Republican’ts, who have been slinging racist slurs these last few months.

And, of course, if it was a Democratic civil servant who said that sort of thing, Sarah Palin would never use that to tar the entire Democratic Party with it, don’cha know.

Empty promises of fool’s gold from yet another Republican’t icehole. What an amazing surprise…

  23. Amused Observer says:

    Duros,
Those would be partisan government employees in the state where our plumber friend resides.

Which do you think the greater outrage, violating a private citizens privacy by rummaging through confidential databases out of malice or pretty mild jokes being circulated through government email accounts?
