When Republicans go after Obama, will I be allowed to call them traitors for undermining the commander-in-chief like they have with us for the last eight years?
Just curious.
Oliver, didn’t you get the memo? It’s okay to attack the president again. We won. Bush managed to pull it out in Afghanistan and Iraq on Nov 1. Woot!
Huh?
What are you talking about, fafaroo. The only time “Bush managed to pull it out” successfully was when poor Laura was in a Prozac-induced coma.
Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and Americans are dead, our infrastructure is collapsing while billions of dollars that was supposed to go into the “rebuilding” of Iraq is gone, and the Taliban in Afghanistan is stronger than ever.
We’re lucky we won. Can you imagine how much trouble we’d be in if we lost?
No. No you will not. Going after Obama will be a sign of fair-minded patriotism, and Obama will not be the Commander In Chief — as a Democrat, he cannot properly hold that title.
Instead he will be relabeled “Destroyer of the Military” just like Bill Clinton was so harshly blamed for the tiny force and base reductions started by Bush Sr., because, hey, obviously it was just craaaaazy to think that after the Soviet Union collapsed we could maybe save some money on WWII era nonfunctional bases.
Republicans excuse treason (Libby-Plame), and even glorify it (Ollie North).
I think it’d be great if the conventional wisdom was “Republicans undermine the Commander-in-Chief.” I think you should do whatever you can to make it so.
Oliver: short answer, YESSS!
We need to work shoulder to shoulder to rebuild the economy. Those who aren’t with us are against us, dammit.
Post-partisanship is In. Pragmatism rules. Old politics are traitorous.
I can’t tell if D.R. Scott is missing fafaroo’s sarcasm, or if D.R. is simply piling more sarcasm on top of it.
No. “Asshole” works much better in this case.
Definitely. Unpatriotic, Traitors, Corporate Flunkies, Racist, all of the above and more.
As a matter of fact, we need to hit those bloviating, blowhards to the max and often.
Obama can take the high road, and that’s good, but we can go after the Hannity’s, Limbaughs (I hope there’s some pix of him partying in South America with underaged teens somewhere) and start punching them out and making them whine. It’s time to kick some a**!
You know those punks can’t take a punch.
No.
Dissent is the highest form of patriotism, remember?
Huh? What are you talking about, fafaroo.
D.R., if we didn’t win in Iraq then why is there a Victory in Iraq Day? It stands to reason that if a bunch of people on the internets are celebrating victory in Iraq, then we must have achieved victory in Iraq. I can think of no other reasonable explanation.
In case you don’t believe me, here’s the link: http://www.zombietime.com/vi_day/
The preznit even had a banner on that aircraft carrier that said the mission was accomplished! Preznit Bush won! Anything that happens after that is the fault of the Islamofacistcommiepinkofaggy loser democrats!
Of course Obama will be criticized by republicans. Obama is a democrat. All democrats are traitors. Only republicans are patriots!
On a case by case basis? When you KNOW the guy you’re accusing tossed around the “treason” charge? Absolutely.
As a general rule? I wouldn’t recommend it. It was stupid for those who casually tossed it around, and that shouldn’t be emulated.
Just like that Democratic twit in Congress who said voting against the auto bailout was un-American was an idiot.

matt621: “No.
Dissent is the highest form of patriotism, remember?”
Wow. You are dumb.
OW is making fun of Republican hypocrisy, and you jump right into the trap.
and even glorify it (Ollie North)
Please not to forget G. Gordon Liddy and Chuck Carlson.
Duros, try to restrain teh dum.
1) It’s Chuck COLSON, not “Carlson.”
2) People don’t glorify Colson for his crimes, but for what he has done in the 30 years since to atone for it.
Governor Jennifer Granholm (D-MI) on the rejected auto bailout:
“It is unacceptable for this un-American, frankly, behavior of these U.S. senators to cause this country to go from a recession into a depression.”
Wow, it’s started already…
J.
Stroke,
I wish with all my heart that I possesed the lack of character required to be a liberal Democrat like you and Oliver.
Then I could change my principles and standards of behavior as often as I change my socks and I’d always be right in your eyes.
Because pointing out that Oliver is infinite-looping his double standards and generalizations is not challenging enough. I need some real, honest, cognitive dissonance in my life.
It’s what I really, really want for Christmas – but you probably don’t have any to spare, so I’ll have to make to with integrity.
Oh, well.
Because pointing out that Oliver is infinite-looping his double standards and generalizations is not challenging enough.
About what topic has OW expressed a double standard?
“It is unacceptable for this un-American, frankly, behavior of these U.S. senators to cause this country to go from a recession into a depression.”
Accusations of unAmericanism ought to be immediate grounds for impeachment. Lordy, I’m getting sick of that.
Please tell us, Man Of Character Matt621, how You set Yourself apart from “Stroke” and Oliver.
Please enlighten us as to how we can live a Life of Integrity, embodying the Unchanging Principles You hold dear.
Please give examples of how “Stroke” and Oliver are always changing their Standards of Behavior as often as You change Your socks.
It must be great to be an iron-willed, iron-jawed, TrueBlueAmerican conservative who never needs a helping hand, from the dadgum Gummint or anyone else.
It must be great to be able to see, oh so clearly, the clear and present danger that Demislamunistofascism presents to the Free World.
We already know You have the AllAmericanWherewithal to save up a shitload of money just as easy as pie. So what other examples of Your Own Integrity can You give us?
Come on, don’t be modest.
Jay
1) Who gives a shit?
2) No, people just gloss right over the wrongdoing.
Bruce,
In the context you would most understand, character exhibits in that moment when I realize I am arguing with a lost cause who, no matter how hard or earnestly I try, I will never sway from his sadly irrational stance.
The worst part of it is that the lost cause in question invariably interprets this silence as proof of victory, rather than a realization that I’ve decided my time can be better spent elsewhere.
But a man of character and integrity can shoulder the knowledge that sometimes a fool can’t be made to understand.
Oh, NOW I see….
When you give up arguing with someone that you haven’t convinced, that proves you have character and integrity.
Well, that’s about as clear as mud, but I’m still having trouble with you accusing Oliver and “Stroke” of changing their principles and standards of behaviour as often as you change your socks. Unless you haven’t changed your socks since 2002.
By the way, a commenter on Wizbang used almost exactly the same quote on some rant this morning.
Did you plagiarize him, or did he plagiarize you, or do you post on a non-Bible based screen name over there?
