Mountaintop removal is devastating eastern Appalachia, and until recently none of the national environmental organizations have paid it a bit of attention. It is frustrating and disheartening to watch. I'd encourage everyone to take a look at ilovemountains.org and Appalshop (appalshop.org). Chances are, the electricity you use everyday comes from coal obtained through mountaintop removal. Oliver, I second Brian’s thanks for posting this video. I cringed every time Obama mentioned "clean coal" in the campaign. Coal by definition cannot be clean. You can scrub out every molecule of pollutants -- theoretically of course, as this is practically impossible -- and coal is still dirty because of how it's obtained.
