Oh, if only this much concern had been shown about (taking a random sample off of the top of my head) the authenticity of Sarah Palin’s last child, her refusal to release her medical records (along with McSenile’s similar reluctance to put his medical records out for public scrutiny), Cindy McTrophyWife’s tax returns, or the details of the government abuse McCain engaged in (well after promising to be a good boy after getting his hand caught in the Keating cookie jar) by getting a diplomatic passport to help his wife move illegal stolen drugs across international borders (and maybe even the hell he put the whistle blower who caught him through). Then perhaps you might have the possibility of half a leg to stand on with your demands for all to accept your fairy tales as being remotely connected to reality.

AO, not even Mr. Donofrio, whose suit has been recognized by Justice Thomas, is claiming that Mr. Obama was not born where he says he was born. No, that’s strictly the province of conspiracy theorists, cryptoracists, and other refugees from appropriate medical care.

Even if Mr. Obama relents and produces the long-sought long form, he won’t find he has cleared the goal posts set by his challengers. They will certainly have been relocated another mile and a quarter down range.

None of that stopped Berg from stoking the conspiracy theorists. On Oct. 16, an Anabaptist minister named Ron McRae called Sarah Hussein Obama, the president-elect’s 86-year-old paternal step-grandmother, at her home in Kenya. Two translators were on the line when McRae asked if the elder Obama was “present” when the president-elect was born. One of the translators says “yes.” McRae contacted Berg and gave him a partial transcript of the call with a signed affidavit. He opted not to include the rest of the call, in which he asks the question more directly—”Was he born in Mombassa?”—and the translators, finally understanding him, tell him repeatedly that the president-elect was born in Hawaii.

So it seems your supposition that Mr. Obama’s relatives were mistranslated or lying leaves out at least one more possibility–that someone is tampering with the evidence to partisan ends.

A long shot, I know.

Now, the basic problem with all this is this: if you’re sufficiently revolted by the idea of BHO being elected in the first place to _want_ to believe that he’s a Marxist Muslim Manchurian Mole, this will not convince you. Just as if you’re sufficiently disgusted with GWB to want to believe that he’s an indolent, incurious, shallow product of the leisure class who’s skated by most of his adult life on his father’s positions and connections, there’s no evidence to the contrary that would convince you.

Wait, the last four words in that last sentence are superfluous. Heh.

Are they lying when they say Obama was born in Kenya or is Obama lying when he says he was born in Hawaii?

Until you can answer any of these question, you can go bark up a tree.

I’m with you AO. The only times I ever cite questionable sources are whenever I want to make a point about something and there’s no reliable source to back me up.

Like you, I know that this is stricter standard of evidence than most people on the internet hold themselves too but I think intellectual honesty demands it.

Of course, as you know, holding oneself to such high standards often makes it difficult for to prove definitively many of the wild claims that I already believe to be true, which is why I, like you, demand that others do the work of verifying the integrity of the sources I cite.

I think most people would agree that this line of reasoning is itself unimpeachable, which is why it’s a hallmark of conservative “thought.”
