The Media’s Obsession With “Team Of Rivals”

President-elect Obama is from Illinois and he said he was reading “Team Of Rivals” and that is all it took for the media – going on almost three weeks now – to go nuts with the meme. It’s not even true! Sen. Clinton threw back and forth campaign rhetoric but in substance their foreign policy was about a quarter of an inch away from each other. The people nominated by Obama range from centrist to liberal. They all support his agenda. This isn’t him nominating John McCain and Tom DeLay to cabinet posts, for goodness sake.

  • There’s a parallel here. Lincoln’s Sec. of State William Seward was his chief rival for the Republican nomination for the presidency in 1860 – more experienced than Lincoln but without the crazy good smarts and communication skills.

But other than that, yeah, it’s a little crazy. They were, as you say, extremely close in much of their programs. Let him take office before you start with the Lincoln comparisons.

  • The “Team of Rivals” Situation is bulljive on many levels. If Team Obama is deliberately leading the Media Jackasses around with this, well, they’re even awesomer than I first thought.

  • Well, OW, it’s easier than reporters doing actual research by digging deep into actual POLICY of potential candidates.

  • Don’t you know beemer. Inpartial quotes and untrustworthy sites are research for the Media.
