This movie that is being pushed by right wing radio and blogs is exactly the sort of thing that will
keep the conservatives and their party as a regional, minority, organization. They’ve cherry picked comments and commissioned a push poll in order to push the idea that it wasn’t a failure of conservatism and the Republican party that led to their historical drubbing at the polls this November, no sir. According to this video and the people pushing it (I heard about it on one of our local right talkers) the right lost because Obama supporters are dumb.
Now, the idea that the people who falsely believe that Barack Obama is a secret Muslim who wasn’t born in America are lecturing anyone about wacky beliefs is pretty funny, but even moreso this is a bad sign for the right. When we Dems were out of power it was a comforting thought to think that we were the smart ones and that America was just dumb. That’s the kind of thinking that leads to sloppy, elitist party maneuvers and campaigning. Why try to appeal to everyone when they’re just a bunch of dummies, right?
In 2006 conservatives said their loss was due to spending and immigration, so they moved more to the right and proceeded to lose another national election. Now conservatives still think they’ve lost due to spending, earmarks, and immigration and not the failure of conservatism up and down the line from foreign policy to taxes to simple governance. And now to compound their delusion they’re starting an initiative to label the majority of voters as stupid.
Apparently these smart guys have never read about the fate of those who insist on repeating history.
’)
WATB’s, all of them.
“WAHH! IT’S NOT OUR FAULT! LIRULS IZ SMAHT!”
I voted for Obama, and I am far from stupid. I will fairly question Obama like his cabinet posts. But he didn’t win or lose because people are bright or stupid. He won because he was simply the better man.
Beyond that point liberals are the better people. It seems to me that republicans are being the jerks, and actually proving their own lack of judgment.
Oliver
You should rethink you’re new picture, you look like a death row inmate doing library duty, unless that is the look you’re going for.
In 2006 conservatives said their loss was due to spending and immigration, so they moved more to the right…
They did? Did you take a side trip to planet Krypton or something because that’s a statement that is loaded up on ignorance.
Now conservatives still think they’ve lost due to spending, earmarks, and immigration and not the failure of conservatism up and down the line from foreign policy to taxes to simple governance.
Except the Republicans haven’t governed as conservatives for the past 3-4 years. They’ve governed as “me-too” Democrats, happy to spend like drunken sailors and attempting to one-up Democrats on every kind of goofball new spending plan that was floated. When you do that, core supporters will look elsewhere or stay home. Looking at the turnout numbers this year (which weren’t much higher than in 2004) its easy to see that a lot of conservative voters stayed home.
As for the entire premise behind Obama’s election win being the result of a stupid voters, that’s obviously not the case. Yes, many Obama voters are certainly stupid (as the video certainly proves), but what these clips truly reveal is a level of ignorance and stupidity that can be thrown directly back at the mainstream media.
The fact that these people don’t know something as simple as who controls Congress, but do know about the $150K Palin clothing debacle and that she has a pregnant teenage daughter is merely a reflection of what the media thought were important issues to cover.
you look like a death row inmate doing library duty, unless that is the look you’re going for.
Harsh.
Some people just don’t take a good picture.
To call this an initiative on the part of Republicans is a bit of a delusion in itself. Looks to me like just one guy who commissioned Zogby for a poll, and now some of the conservative blogs and radio personalities are talking about it. I doubt if it goes much further than that, certainly not on the order of a ‘What’s the Matter with Kansas’ initiative by liberals after the 2004 election, but who knows.
what these clips truly reveal is a level of ignorance and stupidity that can be thrown directly back at the mainstream media.
Gotta agree with you there. the media needs to just shut the fuck up for a while. When you have 24 hours to fill, ultimately it’s gonna fill up with shite.
Jay,
That video proves nothing. I know it’s dishonest, you know it’s dishonest.
How many more times did you want FOX and CNN to run the tape of Wright saying “God damn America”? How many more times should Charlie Gibson have mentioned Ayers before you would have deemed that he had “done his job”? Was Chris Wallace not tough enough on Obama for you?
You guys lost, fair and square. This crybaby shit you’re pulling now only makes you appear even more pathetic.
I doubt if it goes much further than that,
dude, you brought it up.
Jay, really, just hang it up. The video is neither “evidence” nor “news.” It’s a Jay Leno skit, at best.
Well if I look like an inmate, may I have a gang?
Jay:
Did you take a side trip to planet Krypton or something because that’s a statement that is loaded up on ignorance.
Apparently you slept through the Republican craziness on immigration for the better part of a year.
If you want to delude yourself that hardcore conservatism will help the GOP, feel free to go ahead. I seem to remember a few months ago you expressing with certainty that Sarah Palin had Barack Obama running scared with women voters (Obama won women by 13%) and that there was no way in hell Obama could win Florida (he won FL by 204,000+ votes).
What tripe. I could go walk down my street and find you 12 utterly clueless McCain voters without much trouble, or 12 Bush voters that thought Kerry was going to outlaw the Bible, probably without cherry-picking for the most clueless to produce my ’scientific analysis.’
What’s more, if I did, I’d still think they were entitled to their vote. One need not have much specific information to know which of the two major party platforms one supports in general. Anyone who believes President Obama is going to take away all their guns probably, if well informed, isn’t going to support the Democrats anyway.
I’m pretty sure Obama crushed with the more educated electorate. Any questions? OK, then.
I doubt if it goes much further than that,
dude, you brought it up.
-Duros Insane 62
Dude, I didn’t think I was being a part of an initiative, as you apparently do. Tomorrow or the next day it will be forgotten. So there are a bunch of uninformed voters out there who know all things Palin but not who controls Congress, never even heard of William Ayers, or that Joe Biden is a plagiarist, so what?
Obama beat a Republican candidate with weak support from the Republican base after shrewdly outmanuevering Hillary.
He enjoyed strong support from the media and had a great financial edge over his Republican opponent. There is a bit of justice that McCain ultimately was hurt by the campaign finance bill he co sponsered that was such an assault upon the First Amendment. It unlikely Obama will be held accountable for the obviously criminal fundraising violations his innovative on line campaign spawned.
What is clear is Obama was not elected based on any actual past experience making hard executive decisions. It will be interesting to see how he deals with the list of the farther left side of a Democratically held Congress.
Spreading the wealth around with income redistribution schemes is popular when pandering for votes. With any luck he will not increase the size of the welfare state with his socialism based policies that he campaigned on.
One possible good outcome would an end to the racial discrimination known as affirmative action. A return to a meritocracy where the best and brightest are not penalized because of thier racial identity would be good for the country. We would all be better off if tests were made harder instead of dumbing them down to try and include those who can’t qualify on thier own merits.
Perhaps Obama’s accomplishment can reduce the stigma that American blacks apply to acting white and pursuing an education. It is obvious that the most valuable resource a country can have is a lot of smart people to help invent and create innovation needed to succeed. in todays global situation.
This argument kinda kills the academia being dominated by The Left talking point. Yep, were just a bunch of dumbasses, can I have my tenure now?
So there are a bunch of uninformed voters out there who know all things Palin but not who controls Congress, never even heard of William Ayers, or that Joe Biden is a plagiarist, so what?
1) Because the McCain campaign tried so hard to keep the media away from Sarah Palin. They certainly didn’t do what they needed to do to roll her out as a celebutante savior of the conservative movement and of the McCain campaign.
2) You, of course, had been following the life of William Ayers for years and years and can therefore not understand why more Americans don’t know everything about the life of this notorious individual who killed hundreds and brought down the government. You can’t understand why we don’t burn him in effigy every, oh, let’s say November 4th.
3) I may be an uneducated Obama voter, but I know the difference between past and present tense, Dennis. Joe Biden once plagiarized, it does not mean he “is” a plagiarist. I give you credit for not attempting to spin your logic into the sentence “Obama is a cocaine user.”
Dude, I didn’t think I was being a part of an initiative,
You takes your blog posts where you finds ‘em.
I give you credit for not attempting to spin your logic into the sentence “Obama is a cocaine user.”
Hey, I wonder if Zogby must’ve forgotten to ask a question about Obama’s coke days. Probably knew most of his supporters would ace that one and it would screw up his push poll.
Duros: Gotta agree with you there. the media needs to just shut the fuck up for a while. When you have 24 hours to fill, ultimately it’s gonna fill up with shite.
But it doesn’t have to. It isn’t that they are reporting/discussing trivia because they need to fill air time. It’s that they don’t want to bother to do the work needed for more substantive reporting and/or (e.g., Fox) they are pushing an agenda.
And I’m sure they would do it even if they had to fill only 60 minutes of air time each day. Because it’s just easier to blather on about Ayers or shopping sprees or lipsticked pigs or “going rogue” or birth certificates. Why make the effort to discuss tax policy and what each candidate really plans when you can just shove a microphone at Joe the plumber?
Oh come on Oliver. I saw all the videos of leftys interviewing morons outside McCain events. Were those not equally “dishonest”?
Its interesting. People always seem to know more about the opposition than their own candidates (accurate or not)
OW: If you want to delude yourself that hardcore conservatism will help the GOP
Actually, I think being conservative would help the GOP. The thing is, they aren’t.
If they actually were fiscally conservative. If they actually did work for a smaller government. If they actually did support personal freedoms. It they actually demonstrated personal responsibility.
But they don’t.
They spend recklessly. They bloat government. They work to control the lives of people they don’t agree with. They demonstrate hypocrisy with no-longer startling regularity.
“What is clear is Obama was not elected based on any actual past experience making hard executive decisions.”
Neither were Bush, Clinton, Bush, Reagan, Carter, Nixon, Johnson, Kennedy… None of the campaigns stressed executive decision-making experience.
Wow, AO. I see your last post was at 3:12 pm. What time did you have your first Scotch?
Look at it again, dude. Proofread.
Wow, AO. I see your last post was at 3:12 pm. What time did you have your first Scotch?
10 o’ clock.
On November 4. And he’s been going hard at it ever since.
So what’s the conclusion that conservatives are drawing from this poll? That the reason Republicans lost was because they didn’t get The Truth About Obama through the filter of the evil Em Ess Em?
Well, better luck with that next time, boys. If you just try a little harder, I’m sure people will listen to you.
LOL,
Dirty Dave, you gotta be kidding.
“Neither were Bush, Clinton, Bush, Reagan, Carter, Nixon, Johnson, Kennedy”
Bush 1 vp, ran numerous federal agencies etc.
Clinton Governor
Bush 2 governor, ran several private sector businesses
Reagan Governor
Carter Governor
Nixon VP
Johnson Vp
Kennedy more like Obama, but even JFK had military experience and a track record in congress.
Quaker, I see you are your usual charming self. The pendulum swings, the Republic is still strong enough to endure Obama. We will suffer an increase in the form of a larger welfare state and experience the contraction of personal liberty that goes along with relying on the government. It will weaken but not kill us and the pendulum will swing again, as it always does.
Bush 2 governor, ran several private sector businesses<strong into the ground.
Yr wlcm!
“Dirty Dave, you gotta be kidding.”
Learn to read, you ignorant shit. He was talking about their campaigns.
By the way, keep attacking the voters as stupid morons. That will surely help Obama earn a second term.
So there are a bunch of uninformed voters out there who know all things Palin but not who controls Congress,
Maybe so, but I bet they know what the VP’s job entails.
Shorter AO: blah blah blah
Jay,
When has there been true conservative governance?
Do you have statistics backing up your claims that Democrats “spend like drunken sailors” vs. Republicans?
Amused Observer,
How do you know that affirmative action wasn’t a ‘consolation prize’ given to black leadership who were fed up with the white dominated “old boys system”?

Nate Silver….FAIL.
An Interview with John Ziegler on the Zogby ‘Push Poll’.
Comedy gold.
Nate Silver is a Keith Olbermann wannabe. He doesn’t really have that far to go.
That John Ziegler interview is just total win. The “54th most influential person” in Talkers magazine should check for breathing holes in her self-chosen life coffin.
Do you have statistics backing up your claims that Democrats “spend like drunken sailors” vs. Republicans?
That’s funny you should bring that up, because, in Eric Alterman’s last book, the good doc provides plenty of statistics that suggest, lately at least, it’s just the opposite. That is, it ain’t the Dems going on spending binges.
Dennis…
Um, from that interview, it’s Ziegler who’s coming across as the asshole.
Ben…
Um, Ziegler comes across as a someone who can’t back up what he thinks a true push poll is, not to mention a dweeb who wants to get on Countdown again to be a hero to lefty bloggers.
So you’re fine with the vulgar, insulting, ungodly language that he uses in an environment when one should be professional?
Do you have a job Dennis? Do you use that kind of language at your job?
Let’s compare:
And according to Dennis, it’s Silver who’s the crazed loser?
I really, reeeaaaaallly look forward to good folks like Dennis helping the Republicans select their next batch of nominees and party leaders.
And as to Amused Observer’s amusing bon mot,
Um these where what exactly? Because the only explicitly illegal actions I saw were Republican morons and Jonah Goldberg readers (but I repeat myself) supplying FALSE information along with their credit card info on the donation site (which they are explicitly told is a crime) and announcing it publicly. In short, “Hey fellow wingnuts! let me tell you about the illegal action I just made!” I look forward to the Obama administration prosecuting every one of these people!
[...] Silver interviews the guy behind the dubious “How Obama Got Elected” smear campaign with predictable [...]
And according to Dennis, it’s Silver who’s the crazed loser?
I said he was a Keith Olbermann wannabe. If you think that equates to a crazed loser, fine by me and I can’t say as I’d disagree with you as it concerns KO, but I didn’t call Nate Silver that.
“I said he was a Keith Olbermann wannabe.”
And I say you are a fucking idiot. Nate Silvers asked relevant questions, and Ziegler swore at him. Now, I have no issue with profanity, but it has to be used as part of an otherwise valid answer.
And I say you are a fucking idiot.
CS Strowbrige
Looks like you may be a John Ziegler wannabe; profanity without an otherwise valid answer. Silver went out with a blog post attempting to debunk the Zogby poll and Ziegler’s video before he even knew the questions or the breakdown of the polling results. He could’ve gotten them from the Zogby site. I posted them here yesterday for someone who asked me for them, why couldn’t Silver have done the same? No, his questions were only relevant to someone who was looking to discredit Ziegler. I shouldn’t call him a KO wannabe because Olby never interviews someone he disdains, unless you surmise that he disdained Hillary Clinton when he interviewed her.
You have to give me some credit though, I’m much less of an idiot than the average Obama supporter, at least certainly the twelve voters on that video that thought they were well-informed. And less so than the average dope interviewed in the Zogby poll, no matter how leading you thought the questions were.
Liberal bloggers and their loyal commenters have spent the better part of the last 8 years howling about how stupid Americans are for voting for George W. Bush, and it was amplified substantially following the 2004 election. You go crazy when a liberal takes his video camera to a McCain or Palin rally and he interviews people who don’t know answers to questions he asks them, and now you call it an intitiative and a smear campaign when someone does essentially the same thing by interviewing Obama supporters. Silver even basically calls Ziegler a racist because he used a couple more blacks in his 12 person interview session than are representative of Obama supporters as a whole. Seems to me that liberals’ efforts to debunk this video and corresponding poll are much more prevalent than whatever it is conservatives are doing to make it some sort of ‘initiative’ or ’smear campaign’.
“Looks like you may be a John Ziegler wannabe…”
And it looks like you are a fucking liar.
“…profanity without an otherwise valid answer.”
You realize when you take part of my post out of context, my post still remains in tact above, right? So people can easily tell when you are lying.
So fuck you. You lied about what I posted, so your arguments don’t matter. Nothing you say matters, because nothing you say can be trusted.
