I would go for Ejiofor also.
Romana changed to Lalla Ward (who became Mrs Tom Baker (and the Mrs Richard Dawkins)) because she fancied a change. No regeneration used. She took the shape of the final piece of the ‘key to time’, a princess (That way she and Tom got to know each other better and Tom stayed on in the role).
Definately not Nesbitt. Hammy, smug tosser. Same with Robson Green. Morrisey a bit old. What about Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe or Damian Lewis?
btw Ray, Freema is on the BBC as Tattycoram in “Little Dorrit” for the next few weeks, so I think any spat is over,

Chiwetel Ejiofor would get my vote of those on the list. The only thing that kept him from being the most awesome part of Serenity is that EVERYTHING about that movie was awesome.

Not on the list: Anthony Stewart Head. Yeah, he has already been on there as a bad guy, but so did Colin Baker.

Seconding Exluddite. Jekyll was — and I am saying this without hyperbole — some of the best TV I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been hoping for another Moffat/Nesbitt teaming since Davies first announced he was stepping down. Take the energy Nesbitt gives in the lion scene and imagine that applied to the Doctor.

Moffat has allegedly said that the next Doctor should be “40-plus and weird-looking”, which I took as a hint toward Nesbitt (though Pertwee and Fletcher fit that description too) — though the source for that is the Sun, so the quote may very well be bullshit.

I should clarify, Duros…I’m not somebody who has watched much of the series, but I’m somebody who used to have a day job that I was remarkably efficient at, which gave me a lot of free time to browse Wikipedia while I waited for more work to come in.

Yeah, that’s right, although the final incarnation, “The Valeyard,” was defeated, implying that he won’t come to be.

Of course, there are numerous possible ways around the stated limit, if it comes to that — after all, The Master was declared to have run out of his supply of regenerations sometime back during the tenure of Doctor #5, Peter Davidson, and yet he still kept turning up and even regenerating right up until John Simm.

The idea of Chiwetel Ejiofor as a new Doctor is incredibly interesting to me. It would definitely represent a huge transformation from every other Doctor before.

(I can’t recall, as I’m not a hardcore fanboy…Time Lords have 13 total incarnations, right? This would be the 11th? And isn’t Thirteen fated to be the evil bastard who long ago tried to have his appearance accelerated by killing the Doctor over and over again?)

The BBC talks a tough game, but when push comes to shove she is too much of a fan favorite to freeze her out of their two biggest shows.

As for the next Doctor, I am in Eddie Izzard’s corner — even though if I were a betting man I would put my money on David Morrissey. He’s a competent choice, but until I see the Christmas special, I’ll reserve any praise.

You know, this is the first I’ve heard of David Tennant leaving the show. I have to say… I’m bummed out.

The Beeb is still (pointlessly) annoyed at Freema for starring in the new (non-Beeb — ITV maybe?) series, Law & Order: London (yes, it's that Law & Order). The last I heard was that they might even freeze her out of Torchwood, rather than taking the obvious step of bringing her in as Owen's replacement.
