No On McAuliffe
Tweet
To break my moratorium on election talk, please somebody decent in the Democratic party oppose Terry McAuliffe running for governor of Virginia. He’s just… wrong. Virginia is newly blue and I’d like to keep it that way.

I agree, he’s just plain wrong.
And not only that, but McAulliffe is a wanker douche-bag. Unless someone like Gilmore runs again, I can’t see myself voting for McAuliffe. Are there any other prospects in the Old Dominion?
Please, God, no.
News like this just makes me sad all over again that Emily Couric passed away and isn’t part of the Democratic bench in VA. Now that I think of it, she actually has a couple of parallels to Sarah Palin (both worked as journalists before beginning a career in local politics that kind of sprang from being PTA moms); she just also had some crucial differences, like treating college as more than an opportunity to tour the country, and not setting up journalists as her punching bag once she became a politician.
Actually, speaking of PTA moms going into politics, I think Janet Howell would make a great Democratic nominee for governor of Virginia. She has been a teacher, has been a state senator for 16 years and has a significant record of legislative accomplishments, without appearing to have made major enemies.
Just make sure that you only have one Democratic candidate running. As blue as VT is we had one Democrat and one Progressive candidate running which allowed the Republican candidate win re-election again.
Agreed. McAuliffe is poison. Even Warner isn’t backing him, and Warner is a hell of a lot bigger asset for us than Terry ever was or could be.
Please, let’s _not_ take five steps forward and even one smallish step back.
Two guys are supposed to be running in the primary. Brian Moran and Creigh Deeds. Both are supposed to be a lot better than TerryMac. Which one of the two is the best? I’ll let Virginia residents decide that.
From the Creigh Deeds Wikipedia page:
Deeds looks better to win on paper, at first glance, anyway. Came a short hair from being elected AG in ’05, so there’s some name recognition, I guess. Grandson of the Democrat who ran the quite rural Bath County (abuts West By God).
Moran is the brother of Alexandria Congressman Jim Moran, and is a pro-business guy from NoVa. Buddies with Mark Warner according to the never wrong Wikipedia.
So both sound like Virginia Democrats. Deeds looks a bit more electable, I’d think, and possibly better since he’s not a sitting Congressman’s brother, although both are royalty of some sort.
McDonnell, the guy who edged Deeds for AG is running unopposed. One would think, that, barring something wacky, the current climate favoring Dems, would bode well for Deeds in a rematch.
Hmm…
James Moran is the guy that every Democrat I know in his district either has to get drunk to vote for, or just refuses to vote for at all. I hope his brother isn’t like him.
Perfect description of Jim Moran. And yes, you have to hope his brother isn’t like him, but I’m reflexively anti-monarchy anyway.
