    Richard Pryor told a story about feeling all warm and fuzzy about traveling to Mother Africa, only to have his luggage stolen there. I thought this meant our identity as Americans trumped any color differences between us: a rich foreigner was a rich foreigner. By extension, presumably, our politics was our politics, no big deal for them one way or the other.

    Boy, was I wrong. Not just Kenya’s, but all of Africa’s reaction to Obama’s election was the biggest surprise in all this.

    Note to self: you ignorant shit, there’s a LOT you don’t know. (But now, at least, you know you don’t know…)
